Vera Lynn – a healing Pisces

Vera Lynn has died aged 103. Known as the ‘forces sweetheart’ she was one of the mainstays of British morale at home and amongst troops abroad during World War 11. Her ‘We’ll Meet Again’ issued in 1939 became a hit, as did ‘The White Cliffs of Dover’ and ‘There’ll always be an England.’ She travelled extensively at some risk to herself to sing in India, Burma and Egypt during fighting to entertain soldiers. After the war she continued to be a great success in the USA as well as UK. In recent years she’s also issued chart topping albums.

Born 20 March 1917, no birth time sadly, she started singing in working men’s clubs aged 7, and by aged 22 had sold a million records and was supporting her parents. She had four planets plus Chiron all conjunct in musical Pisces – Sun, Mars, Mercury and Venus –  giving her a vibrant and emotional approach with healing power. Those all trine Saturn in Cancer giving her stability and common sense; with her Sun Mars Chiron square Pluto and trine Neptune adding determination, guts and another layer of musical ability. Her zany Aquarius Moon was probably conjunct Uranus; and she had a confident (and money-attracting) Jupiter in Taurus in a confident sextile to Pluto.

Her Jupiter fell in the UK 8th house, which allowed her to boost morale at a deep level; with her Moon Uranus in the UK ‘entertainment’ 5th. Her Neptune was conjunct the UK 10th house Jupiter, turning her into a vision of hope. Her Pluto was conjunct and her Jupiter sextile the UK MC. What’s interesting is that her Saturn was conjunct the UK 10th house Moon. Normally Saturn conjunct Moon is a downer, but she fitted the war time mood perfectly.

Her relationship chart with the UK had an emphasised composite Mercury opposition Saturn square Pluto (Moon) – Saturn Pluto is the signature for war. There’s also a composite Sun trine Jupiter, sextile Mars – so she could lift spirits and inject courage through her songs (Venus Node conjunct).

An important part of history for the UK.

Rashford, Kaepernick, Sterling – Scorpio stalwarts

Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United footballer, fought valiantly for poor kids needing free school meals over the holidays and forced Boris Johnson into a sharp U-turn. He’s been praised for refusing to give in and making his arguments stick.

He was born 31 October 1997 in Manchester with a single-parent mother and several siblings and had a childhood where food was not in plentiful supply. He’s a New Moon in Scorpio conjunct Chiron with Mercury also in forceful Scorpio; plus a forced-to-be-self-reliant Saturn in Aries and a passionately enthusiastic Mars Venus in sporting Sagittarius.

Tr Uranus is opposing his Sun and Chiron (maybe Moon) through this year so turning his life upside down; though there will be pressures with his Solar Arc Saturn opposition his Sun.

An astro-parallel is Colin Kaepernick, who started the US football reaction against police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem in 2016. It caused outrage and cost him his career in the three seasons following. He subsequently sued NFL. He was born 3 November 1987 and has his Sun and Pluto conjunct in Scorpio, which like Rashford, is being upended by tr Uranus in opposition now and for the next year. So quite a turnaround as the Black Lives Matter movement gains mainstream support and he receives belated praise. Kaepernick also has his Venus in Scorpio; and Saturn Uranus in Sagittarius trine Jupiter in Aries.

Raheem Sterling, another Manchester United, has also been vocal in the sporting response to BLM, with players kneeling before the opening match of the Premier League’s return. Born 8 December 1994 in Jamaica, he’s a Sun Mercury in Sagittarius with a stupendously confident, influential and super-determined Jupiter Pluto in Scorpio square Mars in Leo; with Venus also in Scorpio. A force of nature.

Scorpio rules when it comes to making protests that matter.

India and China – a high-altitude skirmish

Chinese and Indian soldiers were literally at each other’s throats in a confrontation in a largely uninhabited, disputed Himalayan border area between Tibet and Ladakh. Both have accused the other of provoking fighting in which at least 20 Indian soldiers were killed after a brawl with sticks, bats, rocks and bamboo sticks studded with nails. No shots were fired. The injured were exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the high-altitude terrain. The risk is that a minor spat will escalate to a major confrontation between two nuclear nations.

It is the first deadly clash between the two sides in the disputed Kashmir region since the 1962 Sino-India month-long war broke out, spurred to some extent by tensions building after the 1959 Chinese invasion of Tibet which resulted in the Dalai Lama fleeing to India.

The 1962 war occurred when the aggravated, military Mars in Leo opposition Saturn in Aquarius fell close to the Leo North Node squaring onto Neptune in Scorpio; with an opportunistic and pushily-confident Jupiter opposition Uranus Pluto also in place.

The previous Eclipses were pointers, especially the August 1962 Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius which was almost exactly opposition the India Leo Sun; and set for Delhi had Mars on the Ascendant and Jupiter on the Midheaven with Pluto Mercury Uranus conjunct the IC.

This time round the June Cancer Solar Eclipse (this Sunday) is conjunct the India Mars which was always going to set off a volcanic argument (see post 19th May 2020). And the early June 2020 Lunar Eclipse set for Delhi has Mars conjunct the Descendant and the North Node New Moon on the Midheaven, so it does make India an inflammatory zone.. But that could also be coronavirus/economic-related with this being an unwanted distraction on the side. There aren’t the same aggravations showing on the India/China 1912 relationship chart as there were in 1962 when tr Pluto was square the composite Mars – which is more typical of brutality and a military conflict.  Although there are hints this year of a diplomatic chill and some tensions flaring late year there is nothing quite as stark.

The India 1947 chart points to a struggle with disturbingly high CV-19 rates and deaths and the consequent economic hit with the Solar Arc Moon conjunct Neptune hinting at a panicky and undermined populace. The December Sagittarius Eclipse will fall on the cusp of the India 8th house opposition the Uranus – so there may be financial upsets.

The China 1912 chart is, if anything, in an even more turbulent state with a second Beijing CV-19 wave being described as “serious”. The central disaster-prone China Uranus opposition Neptune is being triggered this year by a jolting Solar Arc Sun square the Uranus; as well as a long run of punishing Pluto hard aspects. Tr Pluto is opposition the China Neptune bringing confusion and devastation, repeating from earlier this year in late August to late November, and continuing on through catastrophic hard aspects to the midpoint in 2021 till it hits the total-upheaval conjunction to the Uranus in 2022/23. I would not be surprised if there was an earthquake or some other natural calamity along the way as well as the pandemic.

The December Sagittarius Eclipse will oppose the China Pluto for a change-or-decay fork in the road and conjunct the China Mercury for arguments and a forced rethink of plans. It’s likely to bring outbursts and more dogmatism from the Chinese government.

Donald Trump – a lacklustre, indecisive Solar Return

Donald Trump’s Solar Return for this birthday (four days ago) for the year ahead is not remotely as calamitous as his Solar Return from June 2019 which had Saturn Pluto in the 10th opposition Mars Mercury in the 4th as the driving planets from a delusional-bubble Water Grand Trine of Neptune trine Mars trine Moon. Plus more head-in the-clouds, inability-to-grasp-reality from Sun opposition Jupiter square Neptune. Horrific and completely boxed in though he didn’t notice most of it.

This coming year’s Return interestingly has Uranus in the 10th suggesting a radical change of career or life’s direction which he also had in his June 2016 Return over his step up into the White House. The tr Uranus change-in-direction in his Solar Return is only one degree from the square to his control-freaky natal 12th house Pluto which it will pick up exactly from early this July on and off till February 2022, which usually indicates turbulence and a major upheaval.

That apart his 2020 Solar Return is fairly limp with a Sun square an indecisive and not-succeeding Mars Neptune Moon in Pisces in the 9th house ruling legal affairs and foreign countries. There’s also Mercury in the secret 12th house trine Mars Neptune so much going on behind the scenes – elusive and evasive and muddle headed.

Tr Neptune is also, of course, within minutes of a degree to the square to his Moon and then Sun which it will aspect exactly on the degree from late March 2021 on and off till late 2022 – so an undermining, confusing time for him.

The one positive is the super-confident Jupiter Pluto in Capricorn which sits on the Descendant which is sextile the Mars Neptune Moon so will inject a touch of substance into otherwise lacklustre plans. Though Jupiter Pluto is also in opposition to – and the Ascendant conjunct – Procyon, the Fixed star which indicates rises and falls as the wheel of fate spins. That point around 25 Cancer is also key in his chart having his natal Venus Saturn in Cancer conjunct, so it will focus a spotlight on his emotional wounding.

The midpoints on his 2020 Solar Return could suggest relationship splits with Uranus conjunct the Sun/Moon midpoint, as well as arguments and a self-willed/argumentative approach. Plus ca change. And with the Saturn/Uranus midpoint conjunct Mars and Neptune – forced release from strains, accident-prone, major battle and weakening resistance.

North Korea – desperate for leverage

North Korea has taken a step back from rapprochement with South Korea, blowing up a joint liaison office in the demilitarized zone between the countries. It had allowed constant communication between the two sides for the first time since the start of the 1950-53 Korean War. The two countries have one million troops stationed on either side of the border.

North Korea has been irritated by the flow of anti-Pyongyang leaflets sent over the border on drones and in balloons by defectors. Though analysts say they may be seeking to manufacture a crisis to increase pressure on Seoul while nuclear negotiations with Washington are at a standstill, which pushes back any chance of sanctions being lifted. They say South Korea has failed as a mediator.

The pandemic has also caused problems, freezing cross-border trade with China which has worsened the impact of UN sanctions, which limit the purchase of almost all goods from North Korea. Beijing had hoped to coax Pyongyang towards market reforms in return for scaling back its nuclear programme, but that’s no longer a priority.

The North Korea country chart is in over-hopeful gear at the moment with tr Neptune square the Jupiter which also often accompanies financial meltdowns and that runs on and off till late 2021. This month’s Cancer Solar Eclipse will conjunct the Uranus exactly which is likely to provoke impulsive reactions and unpredictable behaviour.

Kin Jong Un is thought to have had health problems recently and his Leadership chart, 29 December 2011 11.57am Pyonggang is being rattled by the Eclipses this year with the Mercury catching the June 5th Sagittarius Lunar eclipse; and the Sun Pluto in Capricorn square Uranus catching the early and mid year Eclipses, Solar and Lunar. With a panicky-failure tr Neptune opposing the Mars this year into early 2021; and a downbeat tr Saturn square the Jupiter in place exactly now till early July. The regime is not in great shape.

Kim’s sister Kim Yo Jong has been more visible recently, making this latest military announcement. If her birth date is accurate, 26 September 1987, she’s a Sun Venus in Libra with Moon Pluto in Scorpio. She’s in a year of upheaval with tr Uranus opposition her Pluto and then on a fast downhill slide in 2021/22 with tr Neptune opposition her Mars and square her Uranus, so any violent responses would end in failure. Though she’s also at risk if her brother dies or is overthrown since there would be a deadly power struggle between older rivals for the leadership.

The South Korean President Moon Jae-In’s Administration chart looks rattled by this December’s Solar Eclipse conjunct the Saturn; and will be into turbulent waters come 2021.

The North Korea/USA relationship chart has been and will continue to be rattled by this year’s Eclipses and tr Neptune in a nerve-stretched square to the Uranus and in a deeply uncertain opposition to the Saturn through 2021; with more jolts in 2022. So nothing sorting soon.

Olof Palme – possible answers to an assassination

The assassination of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme on a Stockholm street in 1986 sent shock waves through Scandanavia. He was an outspoken critic of the USA, Russia, South Africa, Pinochet’s Chile and elsewhere, supporting Third World governments including Cuba and other South American countries. So there were no shortage of conspiracy theories about who might have been responsible for having him gunned down as he walked home with his wife from the movies at midnight without a bodyguard. A small-time criminal was found guilty of his murder later but had his conviction overturned.

Recently Swedish prosecutors made a song and dance about announcing belatedly who the real culprit was but it turned into a damp squib with the announcement that a Swedish graphic designer, who died 20 years ago, with differing political views to Palme, was most likely responsible.

Palme was born 30 January 1927 5.15 am Stockholm and had a 2nd house Sun Mercury in Aquarius with a 1st house outspoken Sagittarius Moon; a full communicative 3rd house with Venus in Aquarius opposition an idealistic Neptune, as well as Jupiter and blunt-speaking Uranus. His Sun Mercury were widely square a pro-active and determined Mars in Taurus in his entertaining 5th which in turn was sextile an influential Pluto in his 8th.

When he was killed on February 28 1986 he was on his Second Saturn Return with his Solar Arc Moon and Solar Arc Uranus both in exact aspect to his idealistic, head-in-the-clouds 9th house Neptune. Tr Pluto was also hovering around the challenging square to his Sun Mercury and in a blocked square to his Solar Arc Saturn.

The alleged killer Stig Engstrom, 26 February 1934, was a Sun Pisces with a could-be-ruthless Mars Mercury in Pisces trine Pluto in Cancer. Engstrom’s Saturn in Sagittarius was square Palme’s Sun and his Saturn in Aquarius squared Palme’s Mars and sat on top of Palme’s Venus opposition Neptune – so it wasn’t good chemistry between them. Their relationship chart had an exact hostile, power-struggling composite Pluto square Mars and Uranus.

Not exactly startling, though it’s possible he was acting on behalf of others, since there seemed to be no obvious smoking-gun motive.

Russell Simmons – in the eye of the storm

Music mogul Russell Wendell Simmons who resigned from his positions at Def Jam Recordings and other companies after multiple allegations of serious sexual misconduct and assault, has popped back up in a radio interview proclaiming his innocence. A recent documentary featuring some of his accusers lost Oprah Winfrey’s support. In 2018, it was reported that Simmons had moved to Bali, Indonesia, where there is no extradition treaty to the U.S.

Born 4 October 1957, Simmons is a pro-active Sun, Mars, Jupiter in Libra in sextile to Saturn in Sagittarius on one side and Uranus on the other – a risk-taker, confident, innovative. His Saturn is also in a tough-minded square to Pluto. His Venus in seductive Scorpio squares onto an Aquarius Moon.

It’s not a particularly alarming chart (without a birth time) but his way ahead looks less than upbeat. He has a car-crash Solar Arc Mars conjunct his Saturn this year, as well as tr Uranus opposing his Mars/Saturn for a run of calamities from this month, on and off to early 2021; plus jolts and jangles from tr Uranus square Uranus, Sun/Saturn and Jupiter/Saturn midpoints from this July on and off into mid 2021 – which suggest losses, upset and forced change. And tr Neptune is in a disastrous opposition to his Mars/Pluto midpoint now till early 2021. In 2022 Solar Arc Neptune squares his Mars for panicky failure. Photo: David Shankbone

Hong Kong – under the dragon’s claws

Continuing protests in Hong Kong have been marking the first anniversary of major clashes between police and pro-democracy demonstrators as well as voicing protests about the new national security law imposed by Beijing. The Chinese government say it will target subversion, succession, terrorism and foreign interference. But critics fear it will bring mainland-style political oppression to a city supposedly guaranteed freedoms and autonomy for 50 years after its handover. Hong Kong enjoys liberties unseen on the mainland as part of the “one country, two systems” deal made when colonial power Britain handed it back to China in 1997.

The Hong Kong 1 July 1997 12 am chart does have tr Pluto conjunct the Solar Arc Midheaven exactly now and continuing till late 2021 which is a fair description of blocked progress and crushed ambitions; with a deflated Solar Arc Neptune conjunct Jupiter as well this year, which could dent finances as well. With nothing much showing ahead that is upbeat – tr Pluto will conjunct the Neptune in 2023/24 which will be even more devastating.

The Hong Kong 25 January 1842 chart is no more cheering with outbursts of tension from this month, into 2021; a panicky, nerve-stretched 2021 and more of the same in 2022. It all looks like, muddle, mayhem and disappointment.

Relationship charts with both China 1912 and 1949 look to be on a downward slide until almost mid-decade.

The China 1 October 1949 3.15pm chart is pushily confident till this year end but then has tr Saturn moving across the Ascendant into a lower profile First Quadrant for several years thereafter. It may take a while to bite but there will be a less bullish attitude as the old success becomes more difficult to achieve. 2022 will be particularly turbulent, explosive and insecure with the likelihood of hasty over-reactions as tr Saturn square tr Uranus hits on the 7th house China Mars Pluto in Leo and by 2023 tr Uranus opposes the financial Venus, which will bring financial upsets.

The 1 January 1912 China chart is in a state of upheaval this year with Solar Arc Sun square the Uranus and a devastating and confused tr Pluto Saturn opposition the Neptune – presumably CV-19 plus economic damage. Tr Saturn moves onto to conjunct the Uranus later this year for more tension; and by 2022 tr Pluto will conjunct the Uranus for a phase of disruption and perhaps rebellion. Tr Neptune will also square the Mercury opposition Pluto in 2022/23 for further discontent.

So the overlord China will be going through a series of convulsions.

Xi Jinping’s First Presidency chart – 14 March 2013 11.51 Beijing is possibly the more accurate since he’s now abolished the two-term rule. It indicates major problems from next year onwards. In 2021 the economically-challenging tr Uranus square tr Saturn will hit the speculative 5th house Saturn in Scorpio; tr Neptune will also make an undermining conjunction to the Pisces Sun and Solar Arc Midheaven, so it’ll be dither and indecision. By 2023 there are two poleaxing Solar Arcs of a dead-halt, trapped Mars square Pluto; and mutinous-population Pluto square Moon. He won’t emerge from that looking like a victor.

None of which may do Hong Kong much good. It may be helped by tr Pluto moving into Aquarius after 2023/24 since on the 1841 chart the Sun is in early Aquarius; and on the 1997 Uranus is at 7 Aquarius – both of which could (maybe) bring about significant reforms.

Melania – creating her own myth

The mystery of Melania Trump is under scrutiny in a new book ‘The Art of Her Deal’ which suggests her reluctance in moving to DC after Trump’s election was because she was using her leverage to renegotiate her prenup and protect her son Barron’s financial interests.

It makes sense from various astrological pointers. She is a Sun Saturn in Taurus opposition Jupiter in Scorpio, with Mercury Venus also in Taurus trine Pluto so she will be obsessive about material security and money. The other is that tr Pluto in Capricorn was opposing the composite Mars in her relationship chart with Trump suggesting a bitter tussle. Tr Pluto was also squaring his 2nd house Jupiter, lifting his confidence certainly with a win but also pointing to a financial tug of war. Plus tr Saturn in Sagittarius was conjunct his Moon, opposition his Sun and in hard aspect to his marriage signature Sun/Moon midpoint through late 2016 and 2017 pointing to marital separation.

The book also says she is more like Trump, supports his general outlook and is closer to him than was suggested initially. They are different types since she has a predominantly practical earthy and Fixed chart with a Capricorn Moon as well as a stellium in Taurus and Pluto in Virgo, while he lacks Earth altogether. She has no Water planets and only one Fire – so out of touch with feelings and lacking trust in life, which is why she needs to accumulate security and possessions. They may well complement each other – she’s pragmatic and steady while he’s scattergun and disorganised.

Her Mercury and indulgent Venus in Taurus sit on his Midheaven with her Pluto trine so she’d be attracted to his status for what it could give her. Her Mars in his 10th will throw her energy behind his ambitions.

Their relationship chart has a controlling composite Sun square Pluto which describes a relationship in which power plays a major role. Initially that might have suggested she was the submissive partner and she is certainly adept at playing the silent, one-step-back half of the duo. But her Pluto squares his Sun and Moon, so she could well have the measure of him and be the subtle string puller.

Her own chart is agitated and in crisis-mode at the moment with tr Uranus conjunct her Saturn/Uranus midpoint; with a mountainous struggle picking up from early July till mid August as tr Pluto opposes her Saturn/Uranus midpoint, opposes her Solar Arc Mars and trines her Mars/Saturn midpoint. And that influence returns late November through this December. In 2021 she has a seriously blocked Solar Arc Sun square Pluto which could even pick up late this year depending on her birth time which isn’t known. And she will be badly affected by the tr Uranus square tr Saturn hitting on her Saturn in 2021 as well, so could be economically damaging for her.

Her relationship chart with Trump is in facing-a-disaster-mode from now till early July, again in October and early 2021. The two Lunar Eclipses this month and next are rattling the composite Saturn Mercury in Gemini and Mars respectively; and the December Solar Eclipse is opposing the composite Venus – so plenty in the way of upsets, chickens coming home to roost, irritability and emotional shocks late year. With a major turnaround from spring 2021 onwards as tr Uranus square tr Saturn hits on their composite Uranus. But without her birth time not showing much more.
