UK election June 8th – Theresa up, Boris down **updated

Enough already. Elections and referenda are breeding like rabbits. Theresa May has now summoned the British public to gather together their scattered wits on June 8th to pronounce on her fitness and – she hopes – give her a more substantial majority to plough through Brexit negotiations and lessen the pressure from hard-line euro-sceptics in her own party. Though because of the Fixed Term Act she’ll have to get agreement from two thirds of MPs when it goes to a vote tomorrow  at Westminster.

By June she’ll have lost the panicky-failure tr Neptune conjunct her Mars; and tr Pluto will be sextile her Solar Arc Jupiter and moving to trine her natal Jupiter from mid July onwards; plus a lucky, what-a-relief tr Uranus trine Jupiter/Uranus on the day. The only downer may be tr Saturn conjunct her Sun/Mars but that depends on her birth time which we don’t know and could have passed at that stage.

Jeremy Corbyn, the Labour leader, hasn’t much of encouragement on his chart (without birth time) and looks seriously stuck in July.

Tim Farron, Lib Dem leader, has win-some, lose-some influences. He has tr Uranus trine his Mars/Jupiter in the run up, but that has disappeared by June 8th. He does have a lucky relief tr Uranus opposition his Jupiter. But he has tr Saturn square his Pluto and opposition his Mars, just before which looks jammed in.

Caroline Lucas, Green Party, is not in a brilliant year overall with tr Pluto conjunct her Saturn and opposition her Mars – all pre and post-election.

Boris Johnson, Foreign Secretary and PM-wannabe ahead, looks beyond devastated in early June with tr Pluto square his Mars/Saturn midpoint; and tr Uranus square his Mercury/Uranus and conjunct his Mercury/Saturn. He’ll clearly not be pleased with the result but that could mean various things, including watching Theresa May getting into an unassailable position. Although he does have tr Jupiter moving through his 1st house to buck him up when he gets disheartened.

Oops, forgot Nicola Sturgeon, whose Scottish National Party has 56 MPs at Westminster. She has pledged to make the election about getting voters to back her plans for a second independence referendum. Her fear is a Tory landslide would force through a hard Brexit and impose more austerity.

Just to be tricky she has tr Uranus square her Cancer Sun immediately before the election, which is a wild card, can go either way; and a lucky tr Uranus opposition her Jupiter in early June, which looks better. However she also has tr Saturn in a blocking square to her natal Pluto and Solar Arc Mercury, squaring her Jupiter/MC; and tr Neptune opposing her Uranus/MC – none of which look like cheering news.

  1. Marjorie, I too wondered about the Neptune transit on TM’s Mars. Interpretation of the astrology seems crucial and from what I have read about this aspect, it does not produce determination and decisiveness but rather a sense of failure and low energy. Yet here she is with a 21% lead in the polls and making a bold decision that will obviously lead to success. I do balk, though, when she points out how great the economy has been since Brexit defying predictions. Nothing has changed yet.

    • The last person to fight an election with Neptune on their Mars was Ed Miliband, wasn’t it? However, I suppose we can’t read too much into that as TM will be a lot less visible, not doing any TV debates and probably just the bare minimum like she did during the referendum.

  2. Ugh here we go again. Thank you for the analysis. I wondered about that eclipse and Neptune transit on the Labour Sun and TM’s Mars, I thought it would emerge later in the year, I don’t know why. Neptune almost exact on her Mars right now, abandoning that past pledge and seeking to dissolve the fixed term parliament act (I knew being able to look ahead was too good to be true). I suppose recent retrogrades have also caused her some reflection and reassessment.

I suppose the biggest plausible risk is getting pushed back into coalition, it would mean London and Scottish voters and remainers bouncing back to Lib Dem, but that’s a lot to turn around in 51 days.

    • Just to clarify, Theresa May is not dissolving the Fixed term Parliaments Act. She is, in fact, following the Act by calling for a motion in the Commons today to vote for a new election and 2/3 of MPs must agree with her for an election to occur. The FTPA is and will remain the law of the land.

  3. As mindboggling as this is, it really shows what a strategist Theresa May is. I also expect her to come out as a big winner here. She is an October 1st Libran, and her Solar Return is bound to be intense, even if an exact time of birth would help.

Nicole Sturgeon isn’t a pushover, either. I suspect that a “Tory landslide” won’t extend to Scotland.

  4. “Elections and referenda are breeding like rabbits.” So well put, Marjorie. It is beginning to get to most people, though I must say that I feel very alive, and am glad that people are beginning to talk of issues and educating themselves, now that Brexit is more real.

Can I request you, if you have the time and inclination, to draw the chart of the next UK Parliament and likely of the next government, when the actual proclamation of the Election is issued, presumably tomorrow?

  5. Honestly, all these political situations taking place at this moment in time is like a merry-go-round whilst on pscychedelics! Not that I’ve done drugs but, just imagining it makes me want to shout out ‘enough’ and crawl off into a dark corner to get myself together again. What has happened? We seem to be dissolving.

  6. Thanks Marjorie. How do you see this affecting the (likely?) loss of Corbin and the Labour Party? Will the grass roots left prevail over the Blairite Parliamentary right if JC falls on his sword, in the event of a defeat? In the longer run will this actually assist the Labour Party, at least in terms of its electoral prospects in years to come? Is it on a more positive trajectory after June? Alex

    • Who is the leader of the “grassroot” in Britain? I see “grassroot” left doing well all over Europe lately. There is a serious backlash on “grassroot” right. I think it’s very indicative of Neptune in Pisces, idealism against realpolitik. But this left needs an inspirational leader just as much as the right. I think Sturgeon can be one for Scotland, but is there someone for the rest of Union?
