Russian troops are massing on the Ukrainian border with warnings of a possible invasion. Belarus (a Russian client state) has engineered a migrant crisis on its border with Poland that could spiral into violence with most of the migrants want to get to Germany. And Russia has cut gas supplies to Europe, sending prices soaring with winter looming. The theory is that Putin is testing Western resolve in a world without Angela Merkel. She has long been seen as the only western leader with any influence on Putin and she’ll soon be gone.
Putin’s 4th Term chart, 7 May 2018 11.05am Moscow is brutal and crises-ridden with a Mars Pluto conjunction square Uranus. The Solar Arc Midheaven is conjunct the Uranus now and for several weeks ahead which could suggest a decisive shift of direction. Tr Pluto will conjunct the Mars through 2022 as it has done this year which can be frustratingly trapped or ruthless as he seeks to ride roughshod over obstacles.
Internally Russia is facing a a triple threat of rising coronavirus cases, new lockdown measures and surging inflation, veering towards 8%. The Solar Arc Pluto will conjunct the Mars exactly in 16 months but will be in effect before then which doubles up on the logjammed mood. This could stem from a myriad of problems not all foreign relations – though desperate leaders can make desperate decisions to divert attention from domestic problems. Tr Pluto is also square the 10th house Uranus in 2023/2024 which will be unstable in the extreme.
Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarus President, first installed on 20 July 1994 and sworn in for a 6th term after a disputed election on 23 September 2020. Both these charts are under extreme stress through this December and across 2022. So if he hangs on it’ll be by the skin of his teeth.
Joe Biden’s Mars in Scorpio is close to his Descendant when his chart is relocated to Moscow, so it is a toxic hotspot for him. For Warsaw, Poland he has an indecisive Neptune on his Descendant. He’ll be irked certainly. Whether he takes radical action is less sure.

Recall hearing/reading that Pluto Conjunct MidHeaven means things don’t end well for the individual.
It Putin’s case it could mean just that. Such as native is alway advised to try and act honestly and openly and not abuse their power if they are to prosper!

Hi Marjorie, As an aside to the above I had a look at the transits in Putin’s personal chart (and a worrying chart it is!). Tr Jupiter has been opposing his natal Pluto (also sq natal Jupiter) reflecting his personal ‘over the top’ reaction to challenging situations. If the details are correct (St Petersburg, 7th Oct 1952 09:30am), this puts his Pluto conjunct his Midheaven just in the 10th. Although this is a very powerful Pluto placement, I am certain he is all too aware of the precariousness of his position even if the rest of the World sees him as largely untouchable. Some of his actions are to maintain the security his position at home and put more frighteners on his domestic opponents. Tr Mars is coming up to oppose his natal Jupiter and sq his natal Pluto. I think I’d feel happier once this transit has passed!
John, yes it had a big effect on Eastern Europe from 1989 onwards with the Wall coming down etc.

Conjunction has had a huge effect on Russia in the past.
Is it possible that Joe Biden’s health could also be an issue soon. What happens if he is no longer in charge do you think?
As Jane says, this is concerning. I recall reading that Saturn/Neptune Conjunctions resonate with Russia and it’s history. Perhaps the upcoming Conjunctions in 2025/2026 will have a major effect on Putin/Russia also?
Thanks Marjorie. This is very concerning, and I felt chilled by what I’ve seen on the news in recent days. I notice a pattern linking these charts with the one for Belarus 1920. It has the Moon’s Nodes at 11 Scorpio and Taurus (SN), in line for the Saturn/Uranus square in December. Biden’s Mars square Pluto is 12 Scorpio, 7 Leo. Lukashenko’s term chart has Uranus at 10 Taurus. And Putin’s term chart has nodes at 9 Leo/Aquarius, with the Aquarian Moon close by that S Node, and now by Solar Arc at 11 Aquarius. It all looks so tense, plus there’s a solar eclipse at 10 Taurus next April. The planets seem to be hammering a message home via Saturn, Uranus, and the eclipse highlighting these individuals and locations. I doubt whether this can all die down quietly somehow. I hope I’m mistaken.
