Jerry Falwell Jnr – an evangelical fall from grace

Jerry Falwell Jnr, president of one of the world’s largest evangelical Christian colleges and a vocal Trump supporter in 2016 has stepped aside after posting a photo of himself with his trousers unzipped. He conceded the Instagram photo was “weird”, but defended it as “all in good fun”.

The college has a strict code of conduct for students, barring premarital sex and the consumption of media either on or off campus “that is offensive to Liberty’s standards and traditions”, such as lewd lyrics, anti-Christian messages, sexual content and nudity. Last year, the former editor of the school’s student newspaper wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post, accusing Mr Falwell of silencing students and professors “who reject his pro-Trump politics”.

Born 17 June 1962 9.13 pm Lynchburg, Virginia,  Falwell Junior, surprise surprise, is a Sun Gemini opposition Moon in Sagittarius, an almost perfect match for Trump. With a pushily confident Jupiter opposition an 8th house Pluto square Mercury in Gemini so never short of a snappy quote. He has a slippery Neptune in his career-10th opposition an indulgent and bullish Mars in Taurus in a hard-edged square to a chilly Saturn in Aquarius opposition a Leo North Node and widely opposition Venus in Leo – all of which adds up to a tricky personality with more psychological knots and wrinkles than most. And with Uranus and Pluto and his Node all in his 8th, his ancestral past will weigh more heavily on him than he realises.

Tr Uranus is in a jolting square to his Saturn at the moment and starting three years of hard aspects to his Fixed Grand Square which will be a bumpy ride. And tr Pluto is aiming to square his Midheaven (birth time being accurate) in 2021/22 which is loss of reputation and a fall from grace – and indeed could even be in operation now. With tr Saturn Pluto moving through his first house his reputation will be taking a pounding.

The Falwells have a family history and a half with this Falwell having a born-again father, Jerry Falwell Senior, promoter of TV evangelism and a political lobbyist for the Moral Majority, Inc with a six-figure income and his own jet and hair-raising views including blaming 9/11 on “the pagans, the abortionists, the feminists and the gays and lesbians for helping this happen.”  Born 11 August 1933, he was a Sun Leo opposition Saturn in Aquarius with a ferocious, dominating, control-freak T Square of Mars in Libra opposition Uranus square Pluto.

Senior’s father Carey was a bootlegger, reputed brothel-owner, an alcoholic and an atheist who shot his drug addict brother and then proceeded to drink himself to death.

More of Jerry Falwell Snr’s rabid quotes:

“AIDS is not just God’s punishment for homosexuals; it is God’s punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.

Any sex outside of the marriage bond between a man and a woman is violating God’s law.

Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions.

The idea that religion and politics don’t mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country.

God created the family to provide the maximum love and support and morality and example that one can imagine.

The whole global warming thing is created to destroy America’s free enterprise system and our economic stability.

I think the Moslem faith teaches hate.

If you’re not a born-again Christian, you’re a failure as a human being.”

  1. Thanks Marjorie – another dubious evangelist, surely an American archetype?! This post prompted me to look up Jim Bakker, 2 January 1940, a very wealthy televangelist who was indicted for fraud, plus there was a sex scandal as well. He also had Mars (Pisces) conjunct an Aries Jupiter, opposite Neptune in Virgo, square Mercury. The “ancestral” theme might be suggested by Saturn conjunct the South Node in Aries? He came from a very religious family.

  2. I’m on my phone, and looked at Jerry Jr’s chart before scrolling down and seeing that of his father’s and then reading the article. And, my first impression, based on the very “off focus” and underwhelming chart of Jerry Jr was that he would not be where he is if not for his father. This is not a chart of someone who “forges” his destiny, but someone with a set path. Taurus Mars may have helped him on staying on track this far, despite his obvious personal failings, though.

This too is very similar to DJT’s chart, although I think there indications there of a greater personal potential for success, such as his Jupiter and that 12th house Mars conjunct Leo Ascendant that indicates the original “wound” that’s also driving him

  3. I believe that all racial groups and nations have a percentage of people who are drawn to a system of belief which give then a sense of belonging to the one system which is “right” and therefore it makes them “special”.

The corollary must therefore be that anyone who has a different belief system or way of life must therefore be “wrong”. The result is that the leaders of such organisations can manipulate their thought processes and persuade them that any crime against or attack on the “others”, even murder, is justified.

These belief systems do not necessarily have to have a religious basis as has been shown by the extreme Right/Left battles of the 20th century and the massacres between different tribes in Africa.

  4. Fundamental, Right-Wing Evangelical Christians are the most hypocritical, hateful people on the planet. They have as much self-awareness as a used teabag!

    1) Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions. – Erm, nope. You are RELENTLESSLY asking questions and why others don’t fit your ideology.

    2) I think the Moslem faith teaches hate. – Clean up the dog crap in your own back yard before pointing it out in others.

    3) AIDS is not just God’s punishment for homosexuals; it is God’s punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals – See the hypocrisy of his Moslem statement.

    3) If you’re not a born-again Christian, you’re a failure as a human being. – Yeah, just look at no.1 again. If you don’t fit into our perverse ideology EVERYTHING about you is questionable as a human being.

    4) The whole global warming thing is created to destroy America’s free enterprise system and our economic stability / The idea that religion and politics don’t mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country. – More proof that American Christians thrive on conspiracy thinking like its a drug. Probably because they are lacking critical thinking in the first place because the bible takes up 90% of their sponge-addled brain and ideology.

    5) Any sex outside of the marriage bond between a man and a woman is violating God’s law – Shall we put any bets on to see if he is yet another Christian hypocrite who has wandered off outside his marriage? Or perhaps this is ONE statement he has stuck by?

I honestly wish religion was made illegal or just done away with! It is so damaging and dividing of everybody. Their ethnocentric arrogance is off the charts and gives these idiots licence to lord themselves over others and interfere with politics and law. Makes my blood boil!!

    • Speaking of religion, Marjorie, is it possible to see if religion does actually fall further down the scale of priorities, especially in America? I did read an article in the past year that mentioned Christianity in particular was dwindling in popularity in America among white people, especially younger people. But it was becoming more prevalent among ethnic minorities?

  5. Hi Marj, Astrodata bank for Jerry Falwell Sr, gives Eastern Standard Time +5, you have +4. This gives Senior Falwell’s Asc as 7Sc01.
The birthtime is A rated so this birthtime is the actual birth time and not an “unknown birth time”. Hope this helps. Thanx for your
    great article on the Falwells.

    • I’ve tried a couple of online calculators and they come up with the same as Janus (mine) – so not sure what’s going on with ADB.

    • I also looked at the chart on Astro.com so I could see the aspects—it show the Placidus houses, which are slightly different than the Koch houses in the chart Marjorie posted. I’ve seen this slight house shift happen also with my husband’s natal chart. IMO the Koch houses tell a story that seems to fit with what’s publicly known about Junior.

  6. Also, in Vedic astrology, one of the interpretations of the Saturn/South Node conjunction is that an ancestor was “improperly mourned” and this created a break or rift in the ancestral line. Seems to fit with the description of Falwell Jr’s. grandfather. Junior looks like has the power to shamanically heal this ancestral break himself, if he only understood and knew what to do with the knowledge of it.

  7. His chart speaks to me of a person with access to a lot of transpersonal power that he’s not comfortable with. I think of Uranus/Pluto 8th people as magicians or sorcerers, able to access shamanic-type depths, with his Lilith/Pluto conjunction specifically suggesting the witch. The tight Saturn/South Node conjunct in Aquarius bearing down on him in Aquarius/2nd does seem to suggest a pressing need to rethink his values insofar as they connect with “the collective” as represented by the church. He looks to me like a person who badly needs to break with his religious conditioning—agree that it’s ancestral, but not a good fit for who he is in this incarnation. His 8th house is like a volcano. Also, the Saturn/Mars/Neptune/North Node squaring onto one another… this looks angry and deluded, but like he can’t quite grasp why.

    • I think in general most ‘religious’ people have a lot of repressed emotions so they hide behind religion to deceive themselves and others.
My Halloween Scorpio sun mother who is also a grand fire dragon in Chinese astrology has a lot of repressed anger and sexual desire but she comes off to everyone as sweet as pie while she ‘unburdens’ herself when it comes to me her Taurus sun son.

Maybe it has to do with our suns being in opposition which I think it like a yin/yang relationship or a cord being pluIIgged into an electrical outlet.

Interestingly, I was never understood religion and always wondered why my relatives would seem more sad and depressed every time they would return from church services. It didn’t make sense to me that someone would do something that made them unhappy.
