Today is the 50^th anniversary of the start of Mao’s Cultural Revolution in China. It was launched to purge his rivals and ended up nearly destroying China in a decade of unthinkable brutality and chaos. Millions were persecuted, beaten to death or driven to suicide, schools and libraries were destroyed, children turned against their parents. It only ended with Mao’s death when the personality cult he had built around himself collapsed.

It started with an edict on 16 May 1966 when the transiting revolutionary Uranus Pluto in Virgo was exact and just into the 8^th house of the China national chart, 1 October 1949 3.15pm Beijing. That properly describes the state of national psychosis which gripped China in the years following. Uranus Pluto was also conjunct the 8^th house Saturn in Virgo so a bleak, hugely unsettled time.

It came to an end in May 1976 with Mao’s death, when tr Pluto was conjunct the China 8^th house Libra Sun and the Solar Arc Saturn, forcing through another transformation under great difficulty. In the years following new economic reforms were put in place though with tr Pluto moving on to conjunct Neptune in the two years thereafter, there was considerable confusion and a great deal of devastation to repair, much of it psychological damage as well as  destruction of the social fabric.

Tr Uranus was also conjunct the China Solar Arc Sun in 1976, freeing the country of a madman.

Mao Tse Tung, born 26 Dec 1893 7.30am Siangtan, China, had the delusional, megalomaniac Pluto Neptune conjunction in Gemini (like Hitler). In Mao’s case it was in the showy 5^th house opposition Mercury in Sagittarius – and that opposition was being triggered by tr Uranus Pluto moving through his 8^th, when the Cultural Revolution started.

 

 

 

The USA is awkward since there’s no accepted start time for the 4 July 1776 chart. I did once plot historical events against all the possible charts and came up with 11am as the most accurate except it has a Virgo Ascendant. The Sagittarius rising chart (Sibley 5.10pm) seems more descriptive of the stereotypical American personality.

I’ll skip house transits and do them later for the USA First President chart which at least has a set time. [But for those interested the 11am chart has houses similar to the EU and the UK’s. The Sibley Sag rising has tr Pluto moving through the 2^nd from 2013 to 2030, which is a long period of deconstructing and reconstructing the financial system, against a fair amount of resistance given Pluto’s natal place in the 2nd. Tr Saturn is crossing the Ascendant this year, dampening enthusiasm and confidence and starting a lower-profile seven or eight year phase of finding a new identity. Tr Uranus through the 5^th from 2016 for seven years – rebellious children, original entertainment, could be fun.]

On the 1776 chart, the tr Uranus square tr Pluto is almost over hard aspects to the USA Cancer Sun square Saturn in Libra, with only one final tr Pluto square Saturn to come mid this September to mid October. That latter is always a discouraging drag.

Tr Uranus will square the Mercury in Cancer from late this June throwing up a few surprises, strong opinions, vehement outbursts;  and tr Uranus will square the USA Pluto from mid 2017 which does suggest a need for a major change, with rebellious elements surfacing. Entrenched attitudes will be challenged.

There’ll be a lucky break with much relief in 2020 with Solar Arc Jupiter square Uranus; followed by a downer with a panicky-failure tr Neptune square Mars in 2021.

The USA First President chart, 30 April 1789 12.45pm New York, did work well against 9/11 with a shocking-collision Solar Arc Mars opposition the Taurus Sun; losses and mourning from Solar Arc Saturn square the Cancer Moon; with tr Uranus conjunct the Pluto and the tr Saturn opposition tr Pluto aiming for the Solar Arc MC. Solar Arc Uranus was within a degree of the Descendant, altering the US’s relationships considerably in the years following.

On that chart the 16 degree Cancer Sun square Mars opposition a 21 degree Neptune in Libra is still labouring under tr Uranus square tr Pluto for several more years till 2020. But does get a lift this year from tr Uranus square Jupiter, extending into early 2017.  Tr Pluto opposition the Moon in 2016/17 does describe an intensely conflicted population with bitter feelings emerging.

There’ll be a financial downer in 2017 with Solar Arc Saturn opposition Venus. Though that may be mitigated to some extent by tr Jupiter moving through the 2^nd for a year from this September. Tr Uranus also moves out of the 8^th this year where it has been from 2009, which has been very bumpy business-wise and financially. So that should make life marginally easier.

Tr Neptune has been in the 7^th since 2010, early in Obama’s reign, staying till the mid 2020s, which makes for uncommitted relations with neighbouring countries.

2018/2019 will be a slog with tr Pluto sextile Saturn; but there’ll be a more positive direction and more influence as tr Pluto trines the MC in 2019/20 and opposes Jupiter.

There is a sense from this chart which has a highly emotional, self-protective, inward-looking Water Grand Trine of Jupiter (Moon) trine Saturn trine North Node in Scorpio, formed into a Kite with North Node opposition MC – that the USA will be pushed out of an all-too-comfortable rut to move onto a different track in the 2020s.  By 2023 tr Uranus will conjunct the MC indicating a change of direction and more independent mood.

Although tr Uranus in Taurus will conjunct Venus Sun and then square Pluto in 2018, 2020 and 2024 respectively, it’s unlikely to have as dramatic or drastic effect as on the UK/EU’s chart. Especially since it isn’t affecting the financial houses.

 

 

The EU – 31 December 1957 11pm Brussels – has a chart not dissimilar in major respects from the UK with a 4^th house Capricorn Sun, an Ascendant only a few degrees earlier and planets in all four Fixed signs in the financial houses.

At the moment exactly the Solar Arc Uranus is square the Sun which suggests a major upheaval, a shock bringing insecurity, which could be migrants, the Schengen re-think or the Brit possible exit.

The Saturn Return is due later this year into 2017 which is grow-up time, get real and start sensible planning for the next 29 year cycle. Tr Saturn is moving through the EU 3^rd house, late 2014 to the end of 2017, which will throw up obstacles to communication and travel within the EU.

Tr Saturn then moves into the 4^th house for four years from 2018, joining tr Pluto there (2008 – 2024). So Saturn’s presence will exacerbate the already conflicted feelings about the foundations of the EU, its traditions and security, as well as concerns about agriculture.

Tr Uranus has been moving through the 7th since 2011 to 2018, which is often a time of partnership separations and arguments about co-operation versus independence.  It’s tr Uranus through the 8^th from 2018 to 2026 which will cause the most disruption, as it upsets business finances. But more pointedly it moves in hard aspect to the 2^nd house Neptune, 11^th house Uranus, 8^th house Moon and 5^th house Venus all in Fixed signs. A good deal of this is likely to be financial since 2nd, 5th, 8th are all money houses and the 11^th is about future directions. So radical changes.

In addition there are a clutch of other difficult aspects around the same time. A devastating (economically) Solar Arc Pluto conjunct Neptune in 2019, at the same time as tr Neptune makes a high-worry square to the EU Saturn in Sagittarius. A dead-halt Solar Arc MC conjunct the 12^th house Pluto in 2019/20; and a ‘shocking’ Solar Arc Mars opposition Uranus and square Moon in 2021.

Tr Neptune is moving through the 6^th, 2012 to 2025, usually not great for employment, workers’ rights etc.

On the upside tr Jupiter moves into the 1^st from early this September which will produce a confidence boost; and mid 2017 for a year sees a lucky-break tr Uranus opposition Jupiter; as tr Jupiter moves into the EU 2^nd house for a year. So there will be some improvement on the money front, albeit temporary. 2022/23 also sees tr Pluto square Jupiter which will bring a major confident push, perhaps in the aftermath of a meltdown.

After the mid 2020s tr Pluto moves into Aquarius into the EU 5^th; tr Uranus into Gemini into the EU 9^th; and tr Saturn into Aries above the EU Descendant. That will see a considerable gear shift away from a difficult few years.

Admittedly tr Pluto in Aquarius will then start to hard aspect the EU Fixed planets so a whole, new and different kind of financial transformation will begin to gradually take hold.

Boris Johnson having made what appears to be an opportunistic decision to join (and hopefully lead) the Brexit campaign seems to be flailing around desperately, in an even more shambolic way than usual

Born 19 June 1964 2pm New York, he has a highly Mutable chart with his Sun Venus Mercury in chatty Gemini; and a T square of Saturn opposition Uranus Pluto in Virgo square Mars in Gemini. Such a focal point Mutable Mars tends to be disorganized, scattered, hyper-impulsive, inconsistent, nervy in a high-wire way, argumentative.

Uranus Mars is volatile and explosive verbally; Saturn Mars is short-tempered; Uranus Saturn is autocratic.

Plus he has Jupiter in indulgent Taurus opposition Neptune which tends to err on the over-confident side and can lack judgement.

This is an incredibly mixed year for him with a confidence boost from tr Pluto trine his Jupiter, but it also tugs on his Neptune, making him susceptible to delusions and exaggerations.  Worse the confused and undermining tr Neptune square tr Saturn is hitting on his Pluto, pulling on his T Square making him doubt his influence. Tr Saturn is exactly square his Pluto over the Referendum on June 23^rd.

He’s also had a catastrophe-prone tr Uranus opposition Mars/Pluto just finished and a muddled tr Uranus trine Mars/Neptune over the end of June as well as a frustrated tr Pluto trine Mars/North Node.

So not really going his way.

He’ll get a lift from tr Jupiter moving across his Ascendant from November onwards, but he’s still got tr Saturn opposing his Mercury Sun Venus into 2017.  Admittedly tr Jupiter will square his Gemini planets from July to September but that’s mild enough.

‘True Blood’ star Stephen Moyer was born 11 October 1969 at 3pm Brentwood, England (AstroDataBlog). He started in theatre including the Royal Shakespeare, then moved into movies and television with the long-running horror TB sealing his reputation.

He has a 9^th house New Moon Jupiter in Libra square Mars in Capricorn – so focussed, lucky, confident, impulsive, likes to travel, lives abroad. A 10^th house creative Neptune conjunct his Scorpio MC certainly fits him for the film business. He has a packed 8^th house with a charismatic and dark Pluto Venus in Virgo with Pluto conjunct Mercury in Libra which in turn is conjunct Uranus. And Uranus is square Mars – so powerfully intense, dangerous, reckless and able to project quite an aura, which is often the case with actors.

He’s not having his best year with Solar Arc Neptune conjunct his Mars but that is nearly finished.  Tr Pluto is square his Jupiter in 2016/17 which will make him bullish and go-ahead; though tr Pluto square his Sun and then Moon from 2017 for three years will be a challenging and testing time, at work as well as emotionally.

India independence was declared at 12am 15 August 1947 and it has a very Fixed chart with the Sun and four other planets including Saturn and Pluto all in Leo; and Jupiter in Scorpio. So it is enduring but resistant to change.

Since 2004 Neptune has been moving through its 10^th house of reputation, ambition and direction and stays there till 2020. This can often be a vague, indecisive time with less sense of direction than before.

Tr Pluto is moving through the 8^th, from 2006 to 2019, which can feel trapped, especially financially. Then tr Pluto moves into the 9^th, 2019 to 2034, which could lead to religious and political disagreements though also a focus on education.

Tr Saturn is moving through the 7^th at the moment, from 2015 to late 2017, which tends to bring a more serious note to close relationships with neighbouring countries, though also a more critical stance and some coolness.  Tr Saturn through the 8^th, 2018 to early 2020, can be tight where business finances are concerned, leading to a forced but sensible reorganisation of resources.

Uranus through the 12^th from 2017 to 2026 – could bring subversive rebels out into the open who oppose the existing order.

Jupiter will move through the fun-loving and entertaining 5^th from July this year for fifteen months thereafter, which should produce some boosts.  As will tr Pluto sextile Jupiter in 2017/18, helping employment and work to flourish as well perhaps as bringing health initiatives.

The tr Uranus square tr Pluto disruptions were all cleared out of the way as far as India was concerned fairly rapidly between 2008 and 2013.  Though there’s still a tr Uranus square the late degree Cancer Moon in 2017 which will accompany some domestic unrest amongst the population and an emotional shock of some kind.

Where radical changes start to occur is when tr Uranus moves into Taurus still in the 12^th to square India’s Leo planets from 2019 to 2025 which will bring an unsettling serious of bumps and jolts. Whatever happens it will impact badly on the population with 2022/23 seeing extraordinary pressures on the Moon. Tr Pluto from the 9^th will oppose the Moon; while Solar Arc Saturn Pluto will square it.  That looks anguished, irritated and bleak.

What follows will be a change of direction and image as tr Uranus moves across the India Ascendant into Gemini from 2026 onwards; with expansive, confident Jupiter also moving through the India 1^st.

So a tricky few years in the early 2020s won’t be easy but it will shift India onto a different track which will be no bad thing.

 

 

Mia Tindall, Zara and Mike’s two year old daughter and Princess Anne’s granddaughter, has managed to bring a spark of light relief to recent news. She featured in Annie Leibovitz’s photograph of the Queen and younger family members, determinedly holding up the Royal handbag; and has been cavorting boisterously at Badminton where her mother was competing.

Born 17 January 2014 at 1.51am in Gloucester, she has a packed 3^rd house with a charming and quite manipulative Venus Pluto in Capricorn opposition a 9^th house Jupiter in Cancer square a 12^th house Mars in Libra opposition Uranus in the 6^th. So with a Cardinal Grand Cross she’s got initiative spilling out, will be restless, go-ahead, opinionated, quite reckless and have a life of revolving crises, many self-created.  She’ll adore excitement.

Her sharp-witted Capricorn Sun is also in the 3^rd along with Mercury in Aquarius – so she’ll be intelligent, a good communicator, boosted by a confident Jupiter in the travelling 9^th. Mercifully her Sun Venus are sextile Saturn in Scorpio which will slow her down slightly and give her staying power.

Her 9^th house Leo Moon is flamboyant, yearns for exotic places. It opposes Mercury squaring onto her Scorpio Ascendant – so she’ll be designed for a public life though she’ll be self-protective and private at the same time.

Her earthy Capricorn planets certainly fit well with her mother’s Taurus Sun and her father’s Taurus Moon as well as Princess Anne’s Virgo Moon.

Valerie Storie has died, who was raped, repeatedly shot and left for dead in 1961 in the infamous A6 murder which left her married boyfriend dead. She identified James Hanratty who was found guilty and hanged, posthumously cleared after a public outcry. Later DNA testing proved beyond doubt he had done it. She spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair, going back to work within a year and supporting her parents.

She was born 24 December 1938 and was a Sun Capricorn square Saturn in self-reliant Aries; and she had a Yod of Sun sextile Jupiter inconjunct Pluto so confident, intense and ultra-determined, though not always good at co-operation.

Hanratty, 4 Oct 1936 12.05am London, was a 4^th house Sun Mercury in Libra; with Uranus in Taurus inconjunct Sun and trine Mars, opposition Venus in Scorpio and square Pluto; and a Mutable T Square of Saturn in Pisces opposition Neptune square Jupiter in Sagittarius. So volatile, emotionally conflicted and very highly strung. He had previously been described as mentally deficient, a psychopath, a pathological liar and ineducable after a childhood concussive accident.

Tr Jupiter was opposition his Pluto Ascendant when he committed the rape/murder, in a macabre way giving him the confidence to do it.

Hanratty’s Libra Sun was opposition Valerie’s Saturn; his Venus conjunct her Mars in Scorpio with his Uranus opposition her Mars; and her Moon was opposition his Pluto. In that spooky way of random encounters between people who had never met before, there was a definite cross over.

Their relationship chart was very marked with a hard Water Grand Trine of Moon Saturn trine Pluto trine composite Sun, formed into two Kites with a struggle-for-the-upper-hand Pluto opposition Jupiter; and a paranoid Moon Saturn opposition Neptune.

Hanratty’s chart also impacted sharply on Michael Gregsten’s chart, 28 Dec 1924, Valerie’s lover and his murder victim. Gregsten was a Capricorn Sun opposition Pluto square Mars in Aries – which collided with Hanratty’s Libra Sun.

In response to a query about the UK near/far future and whether it might return to happier, kinder times and away from globalisation.

The good news in the short term is tr Jupiter moving across the UK Libra Ascendant from mid October this year which should produce a morale boost and more confidence thereafter.

Tr Neptune is now just into the 6^th house of health and work staying till 2030 which will be undermining for health workers, socialist/workers’ political parties, armed forces and the civil service.

Tr Saturn is going through the 3^rd till late 2018 which could throw up communication and transport problems – telephones, postal services, newspapers, freedom of speech issues. It’s not likely to lead to more neighbourliness.  Nor indeed is tr Pluto through the 4^th from 2013 to 2029 which tends to bring up internal resentment and conflict about enforced changes on the population – and that would certainly include immigration issues. That will worsen if anything when tr Saturn goes into the 4^th from Dec 2018 to 2021. Domestically fairly bleak.

There are two major configurations in the UK chart. One is a Cardinal T square of MC Moon in Cancer opposition Sun square North Node in Aries. That has been jolted and hammered in recent times with the tr Pluto square tr Uranus hitting on the Capricorn Sun in 2013 especially. Since it focuses onto the 7^th house North Node it has brought up partnership commitment issues (EU etc), especially with tr Uranus moving through the 7^th as well.

Tr Uranus is now finished; but tr Pluto will square the North Node for the final time later this year and then moves on to oppose the Moon in 2017/18. This latter suggests an emotionally intense population pulling against the government and ruling classes. I’ve always associated that 10^th house Moon with the Queen, so it may also involve her winding down as she advances into her 90s. It’s certainly part of a several-year phase of reviewing and realigning the UK’s identity – not so much how the country appears in terms of image, more an internal process of grappling with who the country is in the context of the recent changes.

The other configuration is the Fixed Grand Cross – or if you’re fussy about orbs – the two Fixed T Squares of Neptune opposition Mars square Venus, and Saturn opposition Venus square Neptune. Since these have planets in the three Mundane financial house, 2^nd, 5^th and 8^th it’s partly why the UK has always had a strong commercial/banking/business focus.

Those Fixed T Squares will get a serious shake-up from tr Uranus in Taurus hard aspects to all four planets between 2021 to 2025. With tr Uranus into the business financial 8^th from 2019 onwards – so a time of highs and lows economically, nothing too stable.  Indeed there will be a forewarning when the Solar Arc Sun is square the UK Mars, exact in 4 months’ time; and Solar Arc MC squares Mars late 2017/early 2018 both of which will involve a considerable shock, emotional as well as financial, with high levels of anger.

The 8^th house Mars is also associated with major accidents, natural and man-made, involving loss of life. When tr Pluto was opposition that Mars in the late 1980s there were a run of horrific accidents – Kings Cross, Zebrugge etc.  It also tends to upend silt from the bottom of the barrel, so when that Mars is triggered, for example more child abuse scandals emerge.

So first the Solar Arc Sun and MC hit it, then three years later tr Uranus is conjunct Mars which looks fairly explosive and disruptive, financially and in other ways.

Around 2024/25 tr Uranus will square the UK 11^th house Saturn which suggests radical changes to government institutions, the legislature – and to the UK’s hopes and plans for the future.

The late 2020s will see a major gear shift, probably for the better with tr Uranus out of the 8^th, into the more open-minded 9^th; and tr Pluto into the 5^th, promoting a more confident push for recognition.

Whether any of this results in a nicer, fluffier UK is debatable.
