The Royal gossip circuit is abuzz after an uncomfortable set-to between Queen Letizia of Spain and her mother-in-law Queen Sofia after Easter Mass. Grandma wanted to pose for photographers with her two grandchildren but was blocked by Letizia. One of the children then refused to hold hands with either.
Poor Queen Sofia, after a sticky marriage with the philandering Juan Carlos and then being ousted from the spotlight when he abdicated after a series of scandals. She has a Scorpio Sun conjunct her midheaven opposition Uranus, so isn’t a pushover; with a sharp-edged Saturn in Aries opposition Mars.

Anji your comments are interesting about generations, the older (I am a late boomer born in 1957) generation was taught to publicly defer to the elderly family members publicly, even if we thought they were wrong.

Saw the video for the first time. Must say that I found Letitizia’a behaviour extremely petty. Part of the clip that I saw showed Sofia kissing her granddaughter on her forehead and then Letizia “wiping” the kiss away (or coincidentally wiping the same part of the forehead). Far too petty.
My mother and paternal grandmother had a very stormy, verging on toxic, relationship with a strong dislike of each other. My paternal grandmother would not eat or drink anything (not even a glass of water) from my house. And my mother reciprocated the dislike.
But not only did she never stop us (her children) from visiting our grandmother, she encouraged it. She always reminded us that we were our grandparent’s grandchildren and that we should continue to love them (as they did us), no matter how bad the relationship between herself and her mother-in-law.

Queen Sofia has so much experience. It would be nice for Letizia to have her as an ally.
I feel for Queen Sofia. Is there some generational aspect which Queen Litizia’s genration of women have in common which causes this need for power. This behaviour from Litizia and her peers around the world is par for the course, they appear unable to compromise – my way or the highway!
Hmmmm, it’s a two way street. If you perceive this generation as “uncompromising”, there might be something on YOUR chart that triggers that response. Maybe a hard aspect to early Libra Pluto and/or Saturn in Gemini? In Sofia’s and Letizia’s case it’s really quite obvious, not only things Marjorie mentioned, but also Sofia’s Mars gets a bad response from Letizia’s Pluto. One meddles, one gets overly protective. But it does not have to be this way. I’m a little younger, but know many 1972 natives. I have significantly less problematic relationships with them than most people my age, because I have Sun conjunct Pluto, and and people whose Pluto is within 2 degrees from my Sun may see me as overwhelming. People I get along with in my agegroup have similar aspects. But once you take away that Pluto, people IRL (my thorny Mercury shows more online) find me much more likeable.
Don’t think it’s generational. Letizia has a high-wire and ego-centric Mars Sun in Virgo – on a trigger fuse. Mind you Sofia is no slouch with a Scorpio Sun opposition Uranus in Taurus. They’re both powerful ladies. And both have Mars Saturn which tends to sit on anger/resentment and then explode.
