Ragnar – I have met my share of “rednecks” who were – and still are – amassing vast amounts of guns and bullets for the inevitable bloodbath btwn Muslims and Christians. It is a mindset – bigotry and hatred. The shooter has the mindset of a redneck – never to be changed without a bloodletting of his choosing.
It’s not just rednecks with all the guns. I know lots of middle class guys who each have dozens of guns and bricks of ammo. For no purpose whatsoever. Nothing religious or “end of the world”. Haven’t heard any bigotry or hatred out of them. At the shooting range, targets with humans on them aren’t even allowed.
Want to add I’m pro gun control. This unrestricted free-for-all is nuts. And the trouble is, unless gun control laws are made into a constitutional amendment, they’ll just be overturned, like the Clinton assault weapon and ammo ban. Even an amendment can be undone, like Prohibition was. Seems to be a Gordian knot.
What about anti-depressants? I keep hearing about that, that many people like this are on anti-depressants and that is, apparently a factor… have no idea if he was or not. In reddit forums it was also mentioned a tumor (I have no idea if he had one) – another explanation because it causes personality changes. I have no idea, again – just remembering several possibilities mentioned elsewhere.
I’ve been waiting for the domestic violence theme to emerge with this Las Vegas shooter, which is the no.1 thing that connects all terrorists from all backgrounds and cultures, the emotional abuse bullet that goes into the gun, so to speak. It’s still yet to emerge but, this story is interesting. The components are already there right at the outset from his childhood. His father was a psychopath and like Solaia says, the genetics look like they have been passed down – But, wouldn’t his brother and family have also seen it? Unless like many families they were so conditioned they couldn’t see it. Stephen Paddock may not have a criminal record but I don’t believe for a second if he and his father were psychopaths that they would never have been emotionally abusive to the people around them. That’s what they do. They hurt people.
Psychopathy also has a genetic component. Therefore, whether or not Stephen knew his father, he might have picked up the genetic predisposal other kids didn’t. The psychotic thrill seeking certainly was there.
