Saturn Pluto Jupiter – two sombre and one radiant planet

Saturn Pluto in Capricorn is a gloomy preoccupation for the astro-minded, exerting its shadow effect at the moment and a prospect for 2020. Though Jupiter does move into Capricorn early this December, staying for a year, which will lift some of the gloom though it’ll take time to catch up with the other two.

The restrictive and heavy-duty Saturn Pluto conjunctions come three times a century, with the most recent being in Libra in the early 1980s and prior to that in Leo in the late 1940s.

In 2020 Saturn comes together with Pluto only once in an exact conjunction in January at 22 degrees Capricorn; and close enough in September at 25 and 23 degrees respectively. But the mood will sit heavily across most of the year.

Jupiter Saturn conjunctions happen every 20 years; But Jupiter Saturn Pluto triple conjunctions happen much less frequently. Typically these major outer planet multiple conjunctions rarely all come together on the exact degree at the same time. In this instance Jupiter will conjunct Pluto at 24 Capricorn in late March and late June; and again in November at 22 Capricorn – that should be morale-boosting, lucky and confident. Saturn and Jupiter don’t come together exactly as a conjunction until December 2020 at zero degrees Aquarius.

Below is a rehash of previous posts:

The previous Saturn Pluto Jupiter conjunction was in 1819/20. In fact it never came exactly together since the Saturn Pluto conjunction in Pisces of 1819 had separated before Jupiter caught up in 1820. Of note (from wiki):-

‘The Panic of 1819 was the first major peacetime financial crisis in the United States followed by a general collapse of the American economy persisting through 1821. The Panic announced the transition of the nation from its colonial commercial status with Europe toward a dynamic economy, increasingly characterized by the financial and industrial imperatives of laissez-faire capitalism. Though driven by global market adjustments in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars, the severity of the downturn was compounded by excessive speculation in public lands, fueled by the unrestrained issue of paper money from banks and business concerns.’

Interesting that the financial collapse – Saturn Pluto = deprivation – was followed by a resurgence from Jupiter. It was certainly a major turning point at least for the USA.

Earlier triple conjunctions of Saturn Pluto and Jupiter:

1146 in late Taurus. The Second Crusade was launched then which failed within three years and was a considerable victory for the Muslims. Also in 1146, a rainy year caused the harvest to fail in Europe, followed by one of the worst famines of the century. And European leaders outlawed the crossbow, intending to end war for all time.

1285: Jupiter Pluto in late Capricorn conjunct Saturn in early Aquarius. This seems significant for English/Scottish Welsh history. In 1284 Wales was merged with England. The Scottish Wars of Independence started in 1286, after the unexpected death of the Scottish king led to a fight for the succession which was exploited by Edward 1 of England (Hammer of the Scots) who assumed over-lordship. 30 years of fighting followed until Scotland became independent again.
There was persecution of the Jews as there had been in 1146. Saturn Pluto is historically connected to the persecution of the Jews.

1444: Saturn Jupiter were conjunct in early Cancer, moving individually then to conjunct Pluto which was in late Cancer/Leo. All sorts of invading and pillaging by the Ottoman Empire in what is present day Greece and Turkey etc.

  1. It’s Conjunct in a few hours, will be interesting to see how this pans out!
Certainly Corporations/Governments becoming more powerful and borders in the form of social distancing.

  2. Thanks Marjorie. It cheers me up somewhat.
    Some history notes.
1146 In England we were in the middle of a confused civil war ( the anarchy) between the Empress Mathilda and King Stephen. However, historians believe that the intensity of the earlier exchanges decreased by 1146 and a stalemate was reached which was accepted reluctantly by all the parties. Not much prosperity for the common man.
As Marjorie writes, 1285 was the end, more or less, of Welsh independence and the start of a new episode in Anglo Scottish antagonism. 1285 also saw the Statutes of Westminster and Winchester. The former accepted the concept of the entail ( a key plotline in Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice) and the latter introduced the idea of community security in which the community through the hue and cry was responsible for the crimes which incurred within that community. It also regulated when the entrances to towns were closed and the width of roads to markets.
1444 was a pause and the beginning of the end of the Hundred Years’ War with the Treaty of Tours which included a 5 year truce. There was more fighting to come but the English were beginning to fight among themselves rather than with the French.
I am not sure that there is much of a pattern here save perhaps the beginning of the end of hostilities- but change was on the way.

  3. Thank you Marjorie, you sum up so wonderfully. Yes, sometimes disruptions and chaos are neccessary to achieve anything. I’m currently having a new kitchen after 40 years! My husband is very frazzled by it all (lots of Taurus planets and hates changes…plus he is 82!) but as a Pisces/Aries I am actually enjoying the upheaval, the ability to clear out junk, clean cobwebs. (.literally) So one’s reactions to even such minor domestic dramas is according to one’s innate nature. There were people who went through WW2 hardly aware it was happening. It’s down to karma too! Life never ceases to be an interesting play.

  4. These conjunctions tend to bring war, recessions, major political conflicts. In Capricorn, it is likely to affect major political and financial institutions. We are already seeing hints of this in the form of major protests throughout the world and escalating domestic political problems in the US, UK and EU. It will heighten as the transit gets closer in orb late this year into next year. When all of the planets involved in the triple conjunction are creating tense angles with the inner planets (especially Sun and Mars), that’s where explosive situations can occur. Events that can even represent a developmental inflection point for entire societies.

Watch for January, March, and July to December of next year for big events. September-November should be a particularly charged time, when Mars will be retrograde Aries, aspecting Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto. In Mid-October, the Sun in Libra, Moon in Cancer, Mars in Aries rx, & Jupiter/Saturn/Pluto in Capricorn will form a grand cross formation, with Mercury in Scorpio opposing Uranus in Taurus. This is specific point in time that I’ve keyed in on. A heavy duty crisis, possibly involving the financial markets at that time. It also connects back to the US elections too. We can expect one of the dirtiest races ever fought in American history, if the transits are any suggestion. It may very well represent a crossroads for the US, which is headed for its Pluto return in the next presidential term.

Triple outer planet conjunctions are rare and nothing sneeze at. We won’t see another one until the 2080’s. They tend to signal major events or turning points, especially when it involves the big power players Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto, and in a sign like Capricorn. 2020 should be a year to remember. Stay tuned…

  5. I believe Mars will be joining Capricorn at some stage next year.
It may be some year, like 2008!
And thank you for this great read Marjorie.

    • Yes. Mars will be conjoining Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn around late March of next year. Should be a volatile point in a volatile year.

  6. The trouble with knowing astrology is it gives you things to worry about in advance. But even catastrophic-sounding influences are survivable and indeed often lead to positive change.
Just off the top of my head. I sat my University finals with tr Uranus tr Pluto conjunct my 12th house Virgo Sun – admittedly I thought the end of the world was nigh but I did actually pass.
I moved house/country and changed career when tr Saturn Pluto moved across my Ascendant through my 1st and it felt like a positive shift.
I moved house/country when tr Saturn opposition Pluto was in hard aspect to my Moon Uranus and Sun and bought a house. Some dramas but it all seemed like an adventure at the time.
And when tr Pluto was grinding its way in square to my Neptune, Venus, Mars and opposition Saturn I did up my house here – usual builder horrors but it got done, eventually.

    • Marjorie, if this is a response to my doom and gloom, thank you. Much appreciated. It is at the end of my 5th house in Plac and 6th H in Equal. Twill be interesting and I shall report back in due course!

  7. Marjorie. Thankyou for this. A little hope after the destruction. The Jupiter Pluto at 24 Capricorn is April 5th I think. The end of the tax year.!
