Los Angeles – wildfire out of control ++ Hollywood

Los Angeles is in a state of emergency as a raging wildfire exploded from 10 acres to more than 2,900 acres in hours with worse forecast to come as the winds stay high. More than 30,000 people have been evacuated with many celebrity homes at risk.

The fire broke out at 10.30am on the 7th with Neptune Scheat on the Ascendant. In astrology Scheat is associated with unfortunate events and disasters, often involving violent storms.

The previous October Solar Eclipse also had Neptune Scheat on the IC with the Libra New Moon in the 7th. The previous September Lunar Eclipse had Mars in Cancer conjunct the IC.

Most telling is the Los Angeles incorporated chart of 4 April 1850 which has a Sun Saturn conjunction in Aries square Mars in Cancer with the LA Saturn catching last October’s and next March’s Libra/Aries Solar Eclipses.  Eclipses on Saturn usually point to a time of facing grave responsibilities and being realistic. Since the LA Saturn is in Aries it may emphasis the need to be self-reliant.

Add On: The Hollywood chart, 1 February 1887 is also showing high stress. The Solar Arc Saturn is opposition the Hollywood Pluto (which squares Mars so is a danger point). The SA Uranus is in an emotionally upsetting conjunction to Venus; and the SA Venus is square Uranus.  Plus the Uranus at 12 Libra is in line of the previous Libra Solar eclipse for a major jolt.

Wildfires are becoming more frequent in many areas including the south of France where I lived and are extremely scary and fast-moving with high winds. As a result there is now mandatory débroussaillage – which is clearing of all brush, dead vegetation and burnable material within fifty metres of any house. Pine trees need to be spaced out. Water is scooped up from the sea and dropped by helicopter, as well as fire hydrants.

There is a description today of how the Getty Museum protected itself against the fire which destroyed surrounding buildings – partly with an irrigation system, partly fire resistant building materials and brush clearing. There are ways of mitigating what is becoming a major problem in various regions.

  1. Brief article on MSN suggested the fires were triggered by very high winds exceeding power line design rqmts (90 kph). At least, no one being hammered for not raking underneath all the trees in California.

  2. The issue of water consumption/availability that I came across tangentially is subject now to 2 pieces of legislation going through in the US and EU at the same time concerning the need for full disclosure by the tech industry of water use and its consequential impact on resources and the environment. Intensifying the water crisis in Cali is the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The data centers required to run large AI models consume vast amounts of power. This significant energy consumption generates large amounts of heat, which in turn requires cooling systems to prevent server overheating. Most common cooling methods (e.g., cooling towers) depend on substantial quantities of clean, fresh water. Of course this situation cannot continue for much longer hence thelegislation…

Cali sounds too much like Kali. I think California which I believe was the name given by early miners came from Spanish meaning trestles or such like used to shore up. Just being a bit superstitious sorry.

          • Wiki: A 2017 state legislative document states, “Numerous theories exist as to the origin and meaning of the word ‘California,'” and that all anyone knows is the name was added to a map by 1541 “presumably by a Spanish navigator.”

The name most likely derived from the mythical island of California in the fictional story of Queen Calafia, as recorded in a 1510 work The Adventures of Esplandián by Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo. Queen Calafia’s kingdom was said to be a remote land rich in gold and pearls, inhabited by beautiful Black women who wore gold armor and lived like Amazons, as well as griffins and other strange beasts.

  3. I remember in the late 1960s having to rake up dead pine needles, because fires can fester below the surface. There were also people who would hose down the exterior of their homes at night, and others who would carry a bucket of water to their bedrooms at night, just in case. I don’t kniw if the precautions for the last two made it any safer, but I do know the pine needles have always been a serious risk.

  4. Thanks for the Hollywood chart Marjorie. Interesting, too, what you write about Neptune/Scheat. The Nodes will be there at 29 Pisces tomorrow. We’re not finished with the constellation of Pegasus, and his ‘parents’, Algol/Medusa (in Perseus) and Neptune/Poseidon. The Solar Eclipse in March at 9 Aries aligns with Algenib in Pegasus. On the positive side, there’s much creative energy and the ability to ‘fly’ above difficulties.

“The constellation portends events concerning ships and the ocean and also changes in the weather. In medieval times it was said to indicate vain individuals with a great deal of ambition, but with very poor judgment.” [Fixed Stars and Judicial Astrology, George Noonan, 1990, p.22.]

  5. I saw the news last night. The situation was not that great. If the air quality is bad, if you need a mask please wear one (need those that can filter out minimum PM 2.5 particles). If you can afford an air filter machine please also get one. You and your family health are important. Take care with love, peace and hope.

  6. Thank you Marjorie. The footage I’ve seen is terrifying. I wonder if it is also worth considering Marc Penfield’s rectified chart for the City of Los Angeles – 4th September 1781, 9.11 LMT? The IC on that chart is 29 Capricorn, it squares the Moon’s Nodes at 27 Aries/Libra. The natal Pluto is 4 Aquarius – so Pluto’s transit has already just passed what is a Grand Cross in the Cardinal Signs, and approaches a potentially transformative return. The extent of the destruction of properties appears to be huge, so transformation will eventually rise from the ashes.

Tr Jupiter in the City’s 8th house was square this chart’s Sun in Virgo for the start of the fires, and opposing its Saturn at 13 Sagittarius in the 2nd. The tr Sun in Capricorn was conjunct its Mars in Capricorn in the 3rd house.

    • Jane Thanks, I did check the LA 1994 earthquake against both the 1781 and the 1850 chart and the 1850 definitely worked better as it did for this event as well. Both may have a relevance but the 1850 is more descriptive.

      • Thanks Marjorie – yes you’re right, although I think both probably do have relevance too. And here’s a little astro weirdery – I was looking at campaigning journalist W. T. Stead and the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1885 which raised the age of consent to 16. Stead was concerned with exposing child sexual exploitation in Victorian London. Like the LA Inc chart, he had that striking Uranus and Pluto in Aries natally – born July 1849, less than a year before the Los Angeles Inc chart. 1885 was an important year for him. So I wondered about 1885 in LA. It’s an interesting year since Pluto is entering Gemini and Uranus enters Libra – both moving into airy signs as they are for us now. It was a meaningful year for LA too –

“1885 – The Santa Fe Railroad opens a second line linking Los Angeles with the rest of the nation. 1886 – Harvey Henderson Wilcox purchases 160 acres of land west of the Cahuenga Pass for a planned residential community. He names it Hollywood, after the estate of an acquaintance of his wife, Daeida.”

The Lunar Eclipse of March 1885 was at 10 Libra, with Pluto and Uranus at 0 of their new signs, and an Aries stellium. The Solar Eclipse of that spring was 26 Pisces, so seems to reflect the Lunar Eclipse of last autumn. Patterns?

  7. Hi Marjorie
I’m a proud Angelina. Taught the city’s history to 3rd graders. The city’s birthday is September 9th.

The Palisades fire has spread to Malibu and threatens Santa Monica and Brentwood and some other areas. There’s a piece-meal assortment of federal and state parkland with very expensive homes adjacent there.

Another scary fire is in Altadena which is adjacent to Pasadena. It’s also adjacent to wilderness areas. My kids’ dad just evacuated-he works at NASA’s JPL, which has also been evacuated.

I’m in Venice-a few miles from the Palisades fire (far enough to be safe because I’m across a freeway and away from hillsides and the wind isn’t blowing my way even though the air is dangerous to breathe.)

This wind storm will calm a bit and then there are two more predicted for the near future.

The situation reminds me of Australia a few years ago.

The winds are fierce! There are two other fires as well.

Maybe you were using the Lis Angeles County incorporation date-that makes more sense. It encompasses many cities -population is about 10 million.
The city of L.A. is smaller & has 3 million people.

    • Hi,
I think September 9 is CA birthday. LA IS 9/4.
Sending you all good thoughts from the north (bay area). Disturbing to read about JPL . Hope it will be safe.
