Her new project highlights a great big clash between AI data centres’ voracious need for electricity and water and to be parochial, Ed Miliband’s new push today to legally enforce cutting gas emissions by 87% by 204O to achieve net zero by 2050.
This is at a time of increasing shortages of water supply for general UK consumption (even though we’re surrounded by the stuff). And of course escalating UK electricity costs, both largely the result of Thatcher privatisation programme as well as opting out of drilling or fracking to obtain oil, natural gas, coal.
It looks as if another polarising argument of global vs local / nature vs tech / ideology vs pragmatism is hoving into view.
Does the astrology indicate such a fundamental conflict? Does it echo the time of dislocation caused by industrialisation, eg Enclosure Acts ?
