EU – the moment of reckoning fast approaching

Angry warnings that the EU could collapse altogether if there is no solidarity over the economic plight of countries like Italy and Spain in the aftermath of the pandemic have erupted. At the recent summit it was made clear that Germany and the Netherlands would not countenance any rescue plan that was the equivalent of a transfer union. The Latin Front of the Mediterranean countries has come together united to face the EU down, with even pro-European Italian leaders questioning the point of membership.

The fundamental flaw in the EU and euro project is being stress-tested to its limit and beyond, as was always predicted it would be in the event of another recession. Merkel at the summit by videolink said even if she agreed on the equivalent of a coronabond Marshall Plan that the Bundestag would block it.

That the EU was going to be under immense stress from this year onwards was never in doubt – see previous post March 8 2020. The EU chart is dominated by Fixed sign planets forming a Grand Cross and that is being thrown into total disarray this year and on till 2023 with explosive tr Uranus hard aspects. Then tr Neptune squares the midheaven for a directionless and undermining drift of indecisive lack of direction in 2024/25 just as the Solar Arc Pluto has moved to oppose the 8th house economic Moon and square the Uranus causing a total snarl up on the financial front.

The various internal relationships between Italy and Spain and the EU, Germany and France – are messy at the moment, in particular where Spain and the EU is concerned. But the major upsets look more congregated around 2022/23 and onwards with even ructions between France and Germany.

Germany this year has the June Solar Eclipse opposition its Saturn and square its Mars so won’t be having an amiable summer, with significant setbacks in the offing, not the least of which is a run of financial bubble-bursting Neptune transits and Solar Arc to its Jupiter in 2020/2021/22. Tr Pluto opposes the 10th house Uranus in 2021/22 for a sudden, forced change of direction. With a hugely disrupted 2022 as tr Uranus is conjunct its 8th house Pluto.

Germany will undergo a fairly violent (in diplomatic terms) reset of its relations to France, Italy and Spain through these 2021 to 2023 years. All in complete turmoil until at least mid decade.

  1. Good question re China especially, I note that Pluto will Conjunct China’s Moon and Ascendant early in its 20 year
    trip through Aquarius.

  2. One consideration missing here is that Covid-19 Epidemic will undoubtably mold internal political landscape in many countries. For instance, I truly hate how people lump all of “North Europe” together, because there has already been a shift from more Neoliberal, “business friendly” policies in many countries, as we’ve seen wealth inequality rise. Up until two months ago, most of frustration was directed to xenophobe populist parties. But I think this crisis will make at least part of people who felt left out see how they have much more in common with immigrants they work, live and die side by side with than rich people they share some phantomatic culture with.

  3. Hi Marjorie,
The triple Capricorn Stellium of 1989/1990 lead to ructions in China and the breakup of the Warsaw Pace/Wall coming down etc.
What effects on China and Russia do you see the current (just past) Stellium and this Summer’s Stellium
being squared by Mars in Aries? Think Mars will be in Aries for 6 months. There’s also what looks like
to me a very interesting Full Moon on 16 October next which will square the Stellium and Mars in Aries.
    Thank you if you comment.

  4. Hi Marjorie,

Somebody had suggested to me that it would be Germany who is most likely to be the next exit from the EU. I had dismissed that at the time, as the Franco-German “engine” was supposed to be at the heart of Europe. But now, given that other countries are trying to corner Germany (and the Netherlands) into common Euro/Corona bonds, is that a possibility? How does the German-EU relationship look in the next decade?

Also, can I second the request for a look at Hungary in more detail?

    • That “someone” must not understand how much Germany’s “real economy” profits from free trade in The EU. They will be the last ones to leave.

One think that I like about Uranus in Taurus is how we’re talking about Industry again, not just finance and banking. Making things, whether it’s windmills or ventilators seems important again. Germans are manufacturers of Europe, lots of big, private companies. But they could not function without subcontractors in neighboring countries. Their unwillingness to act on Poland (and to a smaller extend in Hungary) is clearly due to these business interest of many private companies.

Interestingly, France is another matter. Their Industry is much more Nationalized, with many of large companies being at least partly State owned.

That said, I honestly do not see these trade agreements becoming void suddenly, or even in coming years. Brexit will be finalized in what, 7-8 years, if we count days from referendum to the day The UK will likely have fully negociated new trade deals.

  5. Thanks Marjorie. A “two speed” EU or some other arrangement has seemed inevitable for a while, as you pointed out before. I think the way it responded to the refugee and migrant crisis revealed how disjointed it can be. And there has long been a division between north and south, not to mention all the newer Eastern European nations.

I wondered, too, what you thought about Hungary? It seems the most bare-faced power grab is happening there, as Viktor Orban imposes new restrictions under the CV19 banner. 31st May, 1963, with his nodes at 22 Cancer/Capricorn. The chart for Budapest, 22 December 1872, is interesting. It has a square between Saturn 20 Cap, and Neptune 23 Aries, It’s Sun is 0 Capricorn, and will be touched by the June eclipse. An EU spokesman on Newsnight this evening was incredibly vague about these draconian measures, and their implications. It really was quite astonishing how evasive his response was. And with talk of Poland going the same way – authoritarian regime basically – it seems the EU has either no appetite for challenging members, or basically not enough power. I found the whole news item very chilling.
