The street shooting of Brian Thompson CEO of UnitedHealth Group, the largest insurance provider in the US, has brought into focus consumer rage against the trillion dollar healthcare business. Social media is awash with Americans’ dire experiences at the hands of health insurance companies and outrage at the large profits that they generate. United Healthcare is one of the biggest companies in the world, valued on the market at $539bn and is renowned as one of the worst for rejecting claims. Thompson himself was paid $10.2m (£8m) last year.
Background: There is a widespread perception that health insurance companies are characterized by avarice and callousness. The public hold them largely responsible for high healthcare prices. Another national poll found that almost 1 in 4 Americans agreed with the statement that “true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country.”
Thompson’s shooting which appears closely connected to public anger happened at 6.44 am New York on 4 December 2024 with Pluto sitting at zero degrees Aquarius opposition Mars in the 8th/9th; and a disruptive Uranus in the 6th house of health. The Saturn square Jupiter was prominent being tied into the Sagittarius Sun Mercury.
Jupiter is also highlighted in Thompson’s chart being on the focal point of a yod inconjunct Mars and Uranus – which can have a tendency to let hubris and amplification = bigger is better – overtake common sense and humility. His Jupiter was in the line of fire of tr Jupiter square when he died – which would exacerbate his tragic flaw of aggrandisement.
Jupiter Saturn in conjunction is also associated with those who fly too high on a Jupiterian and wave get cut down by Saturn’s grim reaper tendencies.
United Healthcare was founded in the late 1970s with its IPO on 17 October 1984 when Pluto had just moved into Scorpio, ruler of the 8th house of business finances. Jupiter in materialistic Capricorn was also in a super-charged conjunction to Mars. The Solar Arc Jupiter is square the Saturn exactly now for another uneasy fluctuation in its fortunes. Though 2027/28 look more ominous.
I am not familiar enough with the highly complex USA healthcare system to make specific comments. Though I cannot see Trump undermining the insurance billionaires. The Inauguration for 2025, assuming it is held on schedule, does have a heavily aspected Moon in the 6th house of health. It sits on the focal point of a Cardinal T Square to Mars on the IC (= angry electorate) opposition Mercury. At the very least that suggests rancorous arguments. The Moon is also on the focal point of a yod inconjunct Uranus and Venus Saturn.
The Moon as focal point of a yod tends to be disorganized, overly defensive and agitated but does have a potential, if well handled, ultimately to look after the needs of the weaker; and ‘attend to the basic needs of the populace.’ A Cardinal Moon on the focal point of a T Square tends to be hyper-sensitive and overly emotional.
It could well be a central focus of the next administration for good or for ill provoking ire amongst the electorate (Mars in 4th).
Obamacare, 23 March 2010 11.56pm Washington, DC, could be affected in a Trumpian term. It has tr Pluto opposition the Mars throughout 2025 which is trapped and at risk. The Cardinal Grand Cross of the Aries Sun opposition Saturn square Pluto opposition Moon will be under assault from tr Neptune from May 2025 right through till 2028. With tr Saturn adding its dollop of woe through 2026.
Anxious times ahead.
“Obamacare, 23 March 2010 11.56pm Washington, DC, could be affected in a Trumpian term. It has tr Pluto opposition the Mars throughout 2025 which is trapped and at risk. The Cardinal Grand Cross of the Aries Sun opposition Saturn square Pluto opposition Moon will be under assault from tr Neptune from May 2025 right through till 2028. With tr Saturn adding its dollop of woe through 2026.”
And I think we’re already getting clues as to how Obamacare could be affected.
According to the healthcare experts, the greatest threat to Obamacare is 1. The expiration of the enhanced subsidies that were put into place through the Inflation Reduction Act. Those added subsidies are set to expire at the end of 2025. And 2. There could be changes in what Obamacare will will cover (like birth control, IVF treatments, transgender medicine, and HIV/AIDS medications).
It would make sense that the astrology suggests challenges in 2026 because if the Republicans allow for those enhanced Subsidies to expire, reports suggest that over 4 million middle income recipients could possibly lose coverage because monthly premiums would become much too exuberant.
I’m seeing a birthdate of May 6, 1998 for Luigi Mangioni. 3 planets in Aries, Mars/Sun conjunct in Taurus. I knew those eyebrows were either Aries or Taurus in origin.
Moon in Virgo, a sign associated with health.
And North Node there as well.
And his Virgo Moon stands out as the important focal point in his chart, a detail-oriented bucket handle ‘to serve’ (opposite) his Jupiter in Pisces compassion, idealism, or delusion.
@Lizzie
It has been reported that Luigi Mangioni comes from a rich family, even more weird.
Born with Pluto at 7 Sagittarius square the North Node at 7 Virgo. The Chart for the shooting has the Ascendant at 7 Sagittarius and Brian Thompsons natal Neptune was at 7 Sagittarius. All these degrees are close to fixed stars Han and Antares.
“Police arrest suspected CEO killer”
“Luigi Mangione was picked up in a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after an employee called the cops ”
His face pic during a flirt at the hostel caught up with him…
During my efforts to understand living in France, I had discovered that EU medical premiums would cost me…only…$1800 per year. Far cheaper than my bare-bones Medicare. Diving deeper, essentially every thing under the sun was covered.
Of course, it was heavily subsidized by high taxes. Marjorie, could you chime-in with your take?
Larry, Nothing comes for free. The French health care system is hugely expensive in terms of tax – well an additional levy for health and social costs whose name I can’t remember. Health care is partly/mainly state funded but everyone has to take out health insurance as well. For those below a certain income (on the poverty line) the state pays it all. It works well though given that the French are hypochondriacs there is a tendency to over drug. A simple cold/viral infection is rewarded with an armful of medications from the pharmacy including homeopathic remedies.
And the French state is sagging under the economic burden of over generosity to its citizens. The USA is too far the other way but the French won’t be able to keep up their beloved system for ever – when the money runs out …..?
I have been told about the hypochondriac nature by local French ex-pats 😉
Here at home, and probably for the remainder of life, I do tend towards pill avoidance and focus on more homeopathic: 3-star red curries and yellow curries for chest congestions, 3-star and 4-star pad thai dishes, anything with heavy spices and red chillies to clear my head and lungs. Aspirin is a fav for pain but I must avoid due to nose bleeds (posterior nasal epistaxis from bleeder nasal blood vessels).
Tho, I do find surprisingly useful mileage from orange-fizz Alka-seltzer cold tablets. Found an unused box from 2015 here in an old suitcase and consumed them to contain the present cold/coughing/congestion.
Don’t the Germans have an exemplary healthcare system?
Also costly. House prices are also reasonable in Germany but taxes are high leaving people with little disposable income.
As an outside observer familiar with different kind of health care systems, the only thing that surprised me with this incident was how long it took for it got to happen. While systems across the developed World are all more or less under stress due to mounting costs brought by aging population and lack of qualified personnel, American system has some unique issues.
Most are, I’m sad to say, caused by the unwillingness of legislators to gap prices not only of medicines, but services and insurances. This has led to truly unhealthy industry, costing more than in any other country to all parties.
Trump administration – and sorry to all his fans here – is going to make it only worse. His planned administration’s current plans for cuts in heathcare are inefficient and ill advised. For instance, suggested cuts to Veteran Affairs would leave significant number of people who have been trained to use weapons with a worse healthcare coverage. Somehow, I don’t see this as a wise decision.
So yes, unfortunately there is serious possibility of escalation, as also reflected in term chart
Which reminds me of one other fundamental question, which is Why do leaders hurt and decimate their own country and population? Perhaps especially confusing when it comes to patriots, but that is a bit questionable in the sense that some say they are, but in reality are not. Patriotic.
Trump has never served. He does not understand any of it. The mindset. None of it. His family has not served. He likes the trappings.
@el Aznar
Because the leaders get pockets filled by lobbies etc. and thereby get to stay in power and enjoy its comforts?
Both trump and speaker Johnson have talked about doing away/change Obama care. The republicans will over reach and screw things up like they always do
Well said, Clarence.
Agreed.
Not sure about the astrology,
but lobbying has morphed,
from it’s original constitutional
intent, ( a form of protection for
small, rural, far flung areas at
the time, to have representation)
The corporate elite now use
‘Lobbying’, as a now outright
legalized bribery of our elected
officials and government representatives.
Surprise, surprise, the health care/
insurance lobby is about the biggest
lobby group there is. That is why
Trump was so blindsided, back when
he claimed that he had a great new
healthcare insurance program, then
proceeded to watch it get voted down.
Trump had no idea how deep and
corrupt that lobby went, and how
much they would pay off lawmakers,
in order to hold health insurance for
ransom, a needed service, force people
to pay for it, then prioritize the for profit
part. I hate Trump, but it it was
painfully obvious, to my Virgo
Uranus/Mercury/Pluto stellium,
what happened. And what
continues to happen with this
chokehold lobby that only benefits
investors/ shareholders /corporate elite.
Lobbying, in it’s present form,
needs to be made illegal, in
order for improvements to be
made.
Sherry, Trump is no hero in this, nor is he some well-intended naive figure. Please stop trying to paint him with noblesse oblige.
A malignant narcissist is only out for himself and his own boated ego. Always.
Clarence,
Please point me to where I inferred Trump was a “hero”.
Perhaps I should clarify. I said Trump was blindsided.
As in, clueless. As in, even Trump as president, had
zero clue just how entrenched lobbying is in our political
system. Clarence, if you knew me, you would know
that I hate Trump so badly, that I became so upset
and enraged with him, during the debate with Biden,
that I physically vomited up my dinner.
Also, Clarence, I am offended by your careless remark
insinuating that I am defending Trump. It was most
uncalled for, I find it rude that you addressed my
post the way you did. Please kindly ignore my
posts from now on, as I will certainly ignore yours.
I do not need to be called out and insulted for
something I did not do. I wanted to participate,
but now perhaps I should not, it is not worth
seeing the ruckus for doing so.
Anyway, lobbying has morphed into what is
now corporate entrenchment of our political
system. Until lobbyists bribing officials with
financial gifts, tokens and insider trading
information, nothing is going to ever get
done about for profit healthcare and all
the other messes, that we now get to
experience and deal with here in the USA.
Hey, guys, it is OK. You’ve just had a misunderstanding, and I hope that you both will continue to post!
Mercury and Mars retrograde!
Sherry, my sincerest apologies. It was a misinterpretation on my part. We are both indeed aligned in a mutual loathing of Trump. I will try to grant the benefit of the doubt in the future when plain text leaves lots open to interpretation.
My apologies also!
@Sherry, I believe it was the late Vice President and Senator Walter Mondale who once observed, in relation to campaign finance reform but applicable to a host of other problems facing Congress and state legislatures, something to the effect that the cost of doing nothing has to be greater than the cost of doing something before legislators will take action.
Full disclosure — I was a (partly volunteer) lobbyist for a while in Washington, working primarily on indirect, grassroots campaigns, but I sure saw a lot that destroyed whatever illusions I once had. Money rules in politics, alas, not altruism, and has been rightly called “the mother’s milk of politics.”
There have been efforts in the past to rein in the power of lobbyists but the need for their money to run ever-more expensive political campaigns has always defeated those efforts. The corruption of Watergate in the Nixon era did bring reforms, including the creation of political action committees or PACs, which themselves quickly morphed into vehicles of greater corruption. The Supreme Court in 1976 also gutted most of those reforms in Buckley v. Valero, in which they declared money to be the equivalent of free speech and limits on campaign contributions unconstitutional.
Substantive reform generally results only from widespread revulsion following major scandals. My best hope is that the US populace will finally be so revolted and disgusted by the likely extreme corruption and profiteering of the coming Trump administration and its cast of greedy billionaires that voters will pressure Congress to pass new restrictions on both lobbying and campaign contributions.
But I’m not holding my breath.
In his Progressed Solar Return for date of murder, Progressed Solar Return
Neptune, mystery person, on 7th cusp, open enemy. Progressed Solar
Return Mars at 22Taurus, in 8th, ruling 8th of death. #22 is common
in murder charts signifying “to be killed”.
22 was a common degree in the JFK assassination.
What is so interesting to me is the response of the American public to the Thompson assassination from “who cares” to “he deserved it” to regarding the assassin as a folk hero.
Their anger is palpable, to say the least.
Corporate-run health care in the U.S. is horrifically bad. UHC is one of the worst for denying claims, which has literally meant the difference between life or death for millions of people. Meanwhile, a bunch of far-removed C-Suite executives sit pretty and celebrate their fat profits. All so sick and wrong.
There’s nothing good about any business model that depends on human misery and suffering to succeed. And I don’t think any of this is coincidence with Pluto now in early Aquarius with that extra spark tossed in from Mars in Leo.
Corporate elites aren’t in the drivers’ seat anymore. Humanitarian concerns are. In fits and starts, humanity is waking up. Trump, Musk and company had better read the room, or Thompson won’t be the last to meet with the cruel wrath of the public.
Frank,
The authories are busy questioning a man in Pennsylvania, who had in his posession a fake ID and an unusual gun, similar to the shooters. I have no idea if this is the Thompson shooter and time will tell.
Medication are expensive because some drug companies that I looked up on previously all have some sort of cost per gdp. That means the same named brand drug is going to be cheaper in a low gdp country but higher or even costly in a high gdp country. The rationale is that this is to ensure poor country can afford the drug. I believe this system is also endorsed by some higher power (there are only that few of them) (please do your own research). The past few years have also seen the rise of golden visa youtubers/ influencers whose main point of narrative is that America’s healthcare is expensive, taxes are high, so one should engage them to move to a place where cost of living is low and healthcare is affordable. Trump had shown that he disliked subsidising other nations. I have said my 2¢ worth.
The NHS pays significantly less and I think the UK is still one of the world’s top economies (who knows these days?). That is the benefit of having one buyer and the economies of scale and negotiating power that goes with it.
Not just NHS drugs though – I’m always shocked at the price of basic drugstore things like a pack of painkillers in the US. I also try to remember to bring a 30p pack of British paracetamol or ibuprofen. They are relatively very expensive in France too, which I’ve never understood.
Brian Thompson was shot and killed on December 4 not December 6.
These companies have contributed to thousands of deaths of those who paid for their services and protection in times of need with the use of an AI decision maker known to be 90% incorrect. Another CEO closely connected to what happened here is Andrew Witty, a Brit and CEO of parent company UnitedHealth Group.
He was in the news not long ago for one of the worst cases of data leaking after a cyber attack left millions with medical information unprotected, he was as unrepentant then as he is now with leaked responses to the killing of Brian Thompson telling company staff to ‘tune out that critical noise’ there was also rumours of insider trading.
No AAA chart available I could find; 22 August 1964 Beverley UK. An aquarian moon, sun/saturn opposition on critical degrees, mercury conjunct pluto and opposite chiron.
I think this incident may well mark the birth of a revolution. Power (Pluto) to the people (Aquarius).
