Chancellor Rachel Reeves wrestling with the gap between Labour economic policy and fiscal stability let alone growth has tripped into a sinkhole over the mishandling of a private house rental. The details are complex, the assertions, corrections and obfuscations make a small matter hardly worth disentangling – but it is a political disaster, yet another, for the Starmer government. The markets would get rattled if he dumped her so she’ll probably stay for a while.
Born 13 February 1979, Lewisham, England, she has a Fixed Sun and contrary Mars in Aquarius square Uranus in Scorpio which will make her stubborn and erratic, prone to impulse decisions. Her Sun Mars are also trine Pluto sextile Neptune so no mistaking her over-arching ambition.
All that is showing on her chart now (without birth time) us tr Pluto opposition her Jupiter which can be pushily confident though can also spark up conflicts with authority. Given that her Jupiter is unaspected it could magnify an innate tendency for her judgement to be under-developed. Her Jupiter is also square her Saturn/Neptune midpoint which can point to over-sensitiveness and egotism.
She is in calamity-zone at the moment with tr Uranus opposing her Mars/Saturn midpoint till later this week; returning next April.
Her relationship chart with Keir Starmer is also fraught and nerve-stretched at the same time; moving into possible separations and upsets from late April 2026 right through till early 2027 as tr Uranus opposes their composite Sun and Venus till early 2027. Though whether that is her going, him going or both on the scrap heap isn’t clear. There is certainly a downward slide in their association with tr Neptune opposition their composite Pluto now until late January 2026, with an extra jolt mid February from tr Saturn opposition the Pluto.
Her other transits to midpoints hint at major panic from late January 2026, with serious turbulence throughout the year.

Is all this hassle seen in the 1801 or 1066 charts?
IMO we seem to be returning to the 70s and I didn’t enjoy that time…especially the fashion!
Thanks Marjorie. I was interested to read this:

Reeves’ Jupiter then aligns with the UK Jupiter in Leo. And plugs into the UK yod of Jupiter sextile Uranus inconjunct Pluto in the gambling 5th House, ruling the 2nd House of assets and money. So it seems to make sense that she’s in conflict with authority, as you write, and with the UK’s own chart as well.
Of course we will mostly all have to pay more income tax, I think it is probably the only way to raise the money she needs. It would be nice to think that money would be spent wisely, but I have my doubts!
Just to add – the last Budget to raise income tax was Denis Healey’s 15 April, 1975. The UK yod was being tranisted by financial Venus, 1 Gemini, Mars 2 Pisces, and the Nodes 1 Sagittarius/Gemini. Uranus was 0 Scorpio. That day had the Aries Sun conjunct Chiron, 24 degrees. Chiron is currently transiting at 24 Aries. Mars newly in Sagittarius is poised to cross the 1975 Nodes. Some historical resonances?
Denis Healey was 30 August, 1917, a Virgo with Moon in Aquarius. He was Chancellor between 1974 to 1979.
“Her Sun Mars are also trine Pluto sextile Neptune so no mistaking her over-arching ambition.”
Denis Healey had Sun square Jupiter in Gemini, sextile Pluto in Cancer.
Reeves has that fixed Mars/Uranus square. Healey had Mars 21 Cancer inconjunct Uranus at 21 Aquarius. Both Mars look a little challenging.
Healey’s Chiron aligns with Scheat at 28 Pisces – the 1066 Moon (square Uranus in Sagittarius), while the Reeves/Starmer Pluto opposes that old Moon from Virgo. The population certainly felt the effects of the many financial upheavals of 1975-6. These are very different economic times, but people’s emotions respond to a difficult situation in similar ways throughout history.
Healey’s Mars is also just passed the UK Cancer Moon. Reeves has her Pluto squaring the UK population’s Cancer Moon, which doesn’t look like a very happy connection with the public.
And re the UK yod onto Pluto, Healey had Mercury 2 Libra aligning with UK Uranus, and also Pallas, 0 Libra, the asteroid associated with political strategy.
As always masterly piececes by Hugh and no political posturing!
Taurus and Scorpio with their links to the 2nd and 8th houses are often associated with money, taxes etc. The Sun was at 18 Taurus when Reeves became Shadow Chancellor on 9 May 2021 opposing her natal Uranus and exactly square her natal Mars. When she became Chancellor of the Exchequer on 5 July 2024 Mars was at 18 Taurus making the same aspects. These aspects also triggered the UK 1801 rather troublesome 2nd House Neptune at 18 Scorpio which squares the natal U.K. Venus at 16 Aquarius indicating persistent issues for a nation in handling its finances. Her natal Mars/Uranus square would give Reeves creative ability but it is a difficult energy to control and can lead to impulsive action. The latter would not mesh well with the aspects in her natal chart and career charts to the U.K. financial Neptune since it suggests the energy may well be dissipated in ambiguity, confusion and delusion. This has already manifested itself in the reversal of Reeves policy on the Winter Fuel Allowance and the fact she has failed to fill the revenue versus expenditure gap in the government accounts despite raising about £40 billion in extra income via Employer NI increases in her last budget.
Mercury will be retrograde at 22 Scorpio at the time Reeves delivers the next budget on 26 November 2025. Again this could mean miscommunication and muddle. The planet will be stationing and turning direct on 30th November exactly conjunct Reeves
Other things to note on budget day is the Moon in Aquarius squaring Reeves retrograde Chiron at 5 Taurus and Neptune regressing back to 29 Pisces conjunct Scheat with all its associations with shipwreck both physical and metaphorical. This is an aspect baked into the Labour governments own natal chart.
One suspects they did not consult an astrologer when selecting the budget date.
Just looked up the Labour Party Chart. Reeves’s Mercury is conjunct its Mars in Aquarius. Her Saturn is Quincunx Labour Moon- possibly her Moon too. . Her Venus is conjunct their MC and her Pluto trining Labour’s Pluto. Could this be her Labour Budget for her party, regardless of the people? She has a very fixed chart and will not move from what she believes in.
It would be interesting to look at Reeves’ chart compared to some of her immediate predecessors: Hunt, Kwarteng et al. They got away with an awful lot more incompetence than Reeves is able to do.
I’m not saying I agree with all the decisions Reeves has made, far from it – but the attacks from the right wing press have been relentless, when they let the Tories get away with far more grievous wastes of money and calamitous, sometimes outrageous decisions with public money (VIP lane for procurement, anyone?) This has been further exacerbated by some good old fashioned misogyny, with ‘Rachel from Accounts’ the ultimate regressive put-down from the far right. Uranus opposing Saturn / Mars etc is pertinent.
No matter what Reeves does with the budget, it will be criticised. I personally am hoping she finds the courage to tax the super rich. But I do find it difficult to see the reality of the situation with all the relentless bullying from newspapers that gleefully display their playground natures and their lack of competence for any more nuanced analysis of Britain’s financial woes.
One of the most irritating things about British politics is the fact that everyone is happy with the idea of spending public money so long as someone else pays for it through their taxes. If Reeves wants to be remembered as a decisive rather than divisive Chancellor then she is probably going to have to slay the 50 year old sacred cow which is the assumption that basic rate tax can never be increased. The harsh truth is that if the government is unwilling to cut its spending then taxes will have to rise for rich and poor alike. Many Britons consider themselves overtaxed but the reality is that people on average incomes only pay a marginal rate of 28% income tax/NI on their earnings. This is low not only by European standards but also by UK historical standards. Most people probably don’t realise that even under Margaret Thatcher the combined tax/NI rate was 39% upto 1986. If the British public want better services then they are all going to have to pay for it.
My personal feeling is public would probably accept higher taxation if they can see tangible improvements in public services as a result. The problem for Starmer, Reeves and the Labour government is their inability to deliver on the second part of the equation. Thus far this government has only shown an ability for frittering away money often with precious little to show for it.
yes I agree Hugh. Tax rises for the rich is an obvious move right now… plus, reining in the worst excesses of privatisation of public services, which is a colossal waste and abuse of public money.
How can the rich keep providing? They is only so much money. Once taxed too much it has gone – for good. To my mind Norway is true socialism, it gives people opportunities and replenishes the country. The money has been given back to those who worked for their country. Logically our brand of socialism, isn’t fair. There is no equality, if the private sector and the rich are taxed by a Government who just spends it. Like Hugh has just pointed out. The taxes are being blown. Not invested. One side of the employment sector in this country is expected to pay for the other. As our brand of socialism is not increasing our money pot. Public Sector/Civil Servants earn wages from money which has been generated by all tax payers, whereas the private do not. They pay their taxes by earning from Businesses and private enterprises. Their wage money has to be generated. We need to be more fair. Sensible about it. This is where I believe the fall will come, if our present way of living is not overhauled. 2027 has two major midpoints involving the U.K. 1801 Sun, Moon Pluto and Saturn with transiting Pluto triggering these planets. As it is the ruler of these midpoints – strongest planet in the equation. Our political, financial, and rulers will be challenged. As logically we cannot go on like this.
Then the obvious question is – why don’t governments save? Individuals do, but not Governments? They talk about taxes all the time. Yet in my more than 70 years – crudely put, I have never read about a Government’s ISA with interest. Savings! Most of our Gold reserves have been sold. Yet why not a monthly saving? Surely a prudent Chancellor would lead our Civil Service to provide? Norway has a small population, yet they all have been included in Norway making money. Our money is not invested in any way – for us – just spent. Not even for the NHS. Which seems rather odd for what is virtually a socialist country.
As Marjorie says, “she is in calamity-zone at the moment with tr Uranus opposing her Mars/Saturn midpoint till later this week; returning next April.” And today she is going to make a speech to prepare her case for raising taxes again. I suspect it’s not going to go down too well.
She really could do with some aspects to that Jupiter. She is confident she is right. But so far all she has shown is poor judgement and an inability to think through the consequences of her actions.
She has a very strong Uranian character. Her Sun, Mars and Mercury are in Aquarius. Pluto is trining Mars, that is some energy pumping through her. Uranus rotates the other way to the other planets. Pluto is transiting Aquarius, bringing to the fore her personal Aquarian beliefs. It is opposing her Jupiter, which rules Sagittarius – where her Natal Neptune is . She is being challenged, yet one could argue- this is Reeves’ coming. As her Uranian energy is on overdrive.
Scary and good analysis . Reeves and Starmer are like a couple of ice hearted Aquarian robots
If you look at Reeves Charts you can see how the placement of her planets and ingrained beliefs have made her who she is. Her Moon could possible be conjunct Saturn or in a wide conjunction to Saturn, therefore quite judgmental or harbours a wish to rule. Her Sun in Aquarius, with its ruler in Scorpio would give her an inclination to go into politics to lead make radical changes. As her Pluto in Libra conjunct her Neptune in Sagittarius will make her believe she has a mission to disrupt and change everyone to her way of thinking. Her Mercury in Aquarius and her Venus ruler of Taurus and Libra in Capricorn conjunct her Part of Fortune, also depicts a picture of leading and changing things. What is interesting is her Pluto/Uranus midpoint is in opposition to Chiron in Taurus , this implies she can inflict a wound on individual people’s money and consequently her own fortunes. Given her Jupiter is conjunct the UK’s 1801 Charts Jupiter and Pluto will be in transiting opposition to both on Budget Day, it looks like she may inflict a wound on this country. In the believe that she is redistributing money. Her Neptune in Sagittarius and ruler of Pisces, which, is a combination of Fire and Water – a boiling desire change the ethos of wealth? As her Neptune/Pluto midpoint falls on Uranus, her Sun’s ruling planet. Reeves charts point to her not seeing the individual at all , only as a group/ country and money as a means to an end? I getting the feeling she really does believe in everyone being the same – commune living – and she is on a mission to do it. .Labour we elected under Agol – instant Karma? Also we are also subjected to planetary transits – .a learning curve and teaching us lessons? Reeves may have her vision, it whether transits are permitting? Marjorie’s stating transits for 2026 may be the lesson.
