The Pluto generations differ from each other and can be gauged against the events of those times. There will be additional factors since for example the mid 1960s Pluto in Virgo had the rebellious, reforming, status-quo-upsetting Uranus Pluto conjunction. Way back when, the Pluto in Gemini generation also had Neptune in Gemini to contend with. So not all simple.
Of them all I have always thought Pluto through Cancer was the most difficult (damaging) at an emotional level.

A Pluto in Aquarius sage: Michel de Montaigne, born February 1533
“He who fears he shall suffer, already suffers what he fears.”
“My life has been full of terrible misfortunes most of which never happened.”
“I know well what I am fleeing from but not what I am in search of.”
“He who establishes his argument by noise and command shows that his reason is weak.”
“Nothing is so firmly believed as what we least know.”
“Not being able to govern events, I govern myself.”
“The truth of these days is not that which really is, but what every man persuades another man to believe.”

Pluto in Cancer lasted until August 1938 not 1937.
The Ingress was 1937
Would add Chernobyl disaster and fall of USSR/Berlin Wall to Pluto in Scorpio. And add Iranian Revolution and Opening Up of China to Pluto in Libra.
Perfect quotations from a past Pluto in Aquarius sage to us today.
Pluto in Libra natives spawned woke offspring.
With all due respect, Caroline, have you ever looked into what ‘woke’ actually means or where the term originally came from? At its core, being woke simply means being aware of racism, sexism, inequality, and systemic exploitation. It asks us to look beyond our own comfort zones and question whether the structures around us are fair for everyone, not just those who benefit from the status quo. That kind of awareness makes certain people deeply uncomfortable, especially if they’ve been coasting on unacknowledged advantages. When the playing field starts to level, those used to standing at the top feel threatened.
Yes, sometimes woke culture swings too far and gets tangled in its own self-righteousness. That happens with every cultural shift. But that doesn’t make it inherently bad. It just means it’s growing pains. It’s a sign we’re moving away from ethnocentrism (the old ‘us vs. them’ tribalism), and toward a world-centric mindset where empathy and justice aren’t reserved for people who look or think like us.
And in astrology terms it shows Pluto is working in those areas. Pluto doesn’t just renovate, it obliterates outdated power structures and drags the collective psyche into a new paradigm, whether we’re ready or not. We’re seeing this Pluto-in-Aquarius energy in action right now with huge global solidarity with Palestine. Twenty years ago, most non-Muslims or non-Arabs either didn’t care or were actively misled into silence. But today? From Ireland to Indonesia, people are rising with a united voice for justice. That’s a huge consciousness marker for world-centric empathy.
Of course, those deeply rooted in ethnocentric worldviews are fighting back hard. That’s where the knee-jerk ‘anti-woke’ crusade comes in. It’s fear. Fear of a future that doesn’t centre them and a fear of being placed with others who don’t act of look like them. But consciousness doesn’t regress, it evolves. We’re not in the age of blind loyalty anymore. We’re in the age of awakened humanity and Pluto in Aquarius is really highlighting that right now.
Humanity is religious slave and dogmatic…this is an era where words r used in abusive way…their original meaning is lost in completely opposite version of pretensions they r used now…
Words or no words…..hammering about pain makes it irritating as they say in marathi langauge of india,”one who cries daily, finds no sympathy
*isn’t
Thanks Jo for your thoughtful reply. I am aware of the words’ origins, but I used it in the context it’s now more widely known. I’m from the Pluto in Libra generation. It’s perhaps my least favourite natal placement.
@Caroline, curious, what it is, in particular, you hate in your Pluto in Libra? Personally, I have a crazily aspected Pluto in Libra, conjunct Sun 1st/2nd house (equal giving me first, Placidus/Koch 2nd) and to me, it’s my favourite placement. It has brought me a lot of suffering earlier in my life, but also deep understanding of social structure, both in my surroundings and larger scale, from early on. I think the 1976 sextile series Leo Saturn, Libra Pluto, Sagittarius Neptune in particular has influenced me – it has never been difficult for me to find causes I am passionately for or against. While my other astrology might make me feel slightly disconnected, this has always helped me to find communities.
I would also like to point out that most of the now “woke” Gen Zers in their 20’s in the Western World are not children of Pluto in Libra people. Given people in Western Societies have had children mostly in their very late 20’s or 30’s since the 1990’s, many if not majority, have Pluto in Virgo parent or parents. Late Pluto in Libra people are barely in their 40’s, and with kids mostly in their early teens or younger, so still in their formative years and likely speaking Italian Brainrot rather than being very “woke” right now.
With you on each word..Pluto in Libra generations children r yet to become adults ..almost they r students ..
The woke gen is the millennial and genz which r siblings of gen x called pluto in Libra gen…nicely trained by boomers as grandparents while gen x had silent generation born in 1930s as mentors so they r quiet and keep at their work..not extroverts or extremes or hurtfully vocal online as remianing 3 adult gen…
Nothing against boomers and millenails and genz…all have good ones too but majority r ..
@ Caroline, I actually have the same Pluto in Libra aspect, and I’ve come to really value it. For me, it acts as a strong internal compass, one that always points toward what should be right and fair. My general attitude is “live and let live,” as long as no one’s being hurt, abused, or having their rights or quality of life stripped away. I don’t care for hollow virtue-signaling or performative gestures. Kier Starmer, in particular, irritates the hell out of me because he encompasses such traits so brazenly. Naive as it might be, I want real equality, for everyone, which isn’t the way the world is working.
Viewing the world through my Libra Pluto lens, I’ve always seen imbalance clearly. Even as a child, it frustrated me that boys were given the freedom to be whoever they wanted, while girls were pushed into narrow social roles. I rebelled against that and still do. That double standard is still alive today, especially with the rise of the toxic manosphere. If a relationship isn’t based on mutual respect and equal standing, I don’t see the point.
In my chart, Pluto in Libra sits in my first house and is conjunct my Mars in Virgo, giving me both intensity and focus. I also have nine out of ten planets funnelling into a Jupiter in Pisces handle, and a North Node in Sagittarius. So justice and equality aren’t just abstract ideas to me; they’re deeply personal. The older I get, the more clearly I see how the Western world built its comfort on the backs of other countries, and how the elite stay untouchable while the rest of us are gaslit into being grateful for crumbs. I despise how even oligarchs are allowed to accrue so much wealth and evade taxes while the people on the ground have to work 2-3 jobs yet still struggle to pay their rent or mortgage. It’s inherently and morally wrong. I even question the capitalist model which clearly isn’t sustainable. If I didn’t have that highly aspected Jupiter handle, I think I’d be in a perpetually pessimistic funk.
Honestly, I think I’m finally realizing that I’m far more socialist than I ever thought.
I agree with you Jo. I’m putting it very crudely, but all generations should be appalled by the ever widening wealth gap and the rise of oligarchy. That terrfies me, not just because living under an oligarchy is awful for everyone but oligarchs, but because it is the perfect breeding ground for perpetual division.
“Awakened humanity” Couldn’t disagree more. Most people are oblivious to much of what is going on beyond the propaganda of Western MSM and big tech editorial feeds pushing political and cultural algorithm-driven narratives like never before.
Ive met and had relationships with many Aquas and the fabled ‘humanitarianism’ is overstated imo. Aquarius ruled by Saturn – conservative, cold and restrictive. The duality of Aqua is that it is intensely idealogical but detached and not radical unlike Aries for e.g. There can be a liking for shock but fundamentally it wants to stay inside the tent. There is an authoritative quality. Pluto in Aqua is likely to entrench stubborn world views and draw out more visibly the contours of social divisions and polarities especially along religious lines – giving the powers that shouldnt be plenty of opportunities to exploit a divide and rule strategy.
I do hear you, Amy, and I agree to an extent. A lot of people are still deeply entrenched in media manipulation and algorithm-driven narratives, no question. But where I differ is in assuming that means awakening isn’t happening.
History shows you don’t need the majority for change, just a committed minority. In sociology, even 7–15% of people holding a firm belief can spark a tipping point. MIT research showed that 25% is enough to shift an entire social norm. Spiritually, that mirrors the belief that a small group operating at higher awareness can uplift the rest. So while most remain asleep, some are stirring, and that’s where real momentum starts.
I get your take on Aquarius. It’s often misunderstood. I’ve seen firsthand the cold, authoritarian side of Aquarian energy via a sibling when ideals become more important than people. But that’s also why Pluto in Aquarius is so volatile: it could absolutely be co-opted for digital control, yet it also contains the seeds of rebellion against it. Both sides are playing out.
Take Oligarch, Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle, with ties to both U.S. and Israeli intelligence sectors. He’s openly backed global surveillance initiatives, pitched Netanyahu as a strategic partner, and expressed interest in centralizing global data monitoring. That’s textbook dark Pluto in Aquarius: tech oligarchs fusing power with authoritarian governments under the guise of innovation.
If these powers are doubling down, maybe it’s because a growing minority of people are waking up, and that shift threatens them more than it appears on the surface. I think we’ll see more of this by the time Pluto in Aquarius is done.
Thanks for the history reference…agree…just few r needed to set things right..
Aquarius is traditionally said to be ruled by saturn before uranus discovered so lincoln was said to b in depression before it..might be anecdote but it rings…so the Saturnian authoritian and capitalism and materialistic and wealth obsession at cost of anything Sp maybe for 1st decade saturn qualities then uranus ..as i learned from my piscea- initially jupiter then Neptune the healer
Editorials have a huge 3 gen readership …they will continue to sell what sells..
All these clapping for divisions remind me of the line from vendetta movie,”life was so dull. V suddenly felt like being alive with all this (violence)”.
God bless, these run away when confronted so won’t wage war nor “have ability to sustain it”(as an old Indian politician remarked).
The only reason gen z doesn’t is since it has no money and all taxes so it’s constantly busy feeding these 3 and trying to stay afloat…
@Caroline, parents of the Gen Zers now in their early 20’s in Western Countries are mostly Pluto in Virgos. Yes, I have a 1976 Pluto in Libra classmate who went to labor 2 days after her last final exam in 1995, but most of had children later. I actually even have a friend who met the love of her life at 44 and got her firstborn a couple of days ago, at 49. This isn’t uncommon, either, thanks obviously to medicine for women, but I also have guy friends who’ve started a family later, and not with widely “age inappropriate” spouses. Also, the late Pluto in Libras are barely to their 40’s, and their children are and will be Pluto in Sadgittarius or Capricorn.
What I’ve actually seen is a sharp divide – generally speaking – between Pluto in Virgo and Pluto in Libra Gen Xer attitudes in general. Pluto in Virgos seem to be much more in a kind of survivor mode, while us, maybe because they were born to parents who had recollections of WWII or at least the aftermath? We, Pluto in Libra, were definitely paying attention to all kinds of “woke” issues even growing up. I grew in a small country town, yet half of my class was very active in human rights, half in environmental and animal rights issues, and some in both. While the only out gay guy at the school was bullied by some, he has had numerous (mostly drunken) apologizes later. Obviously, some people were and are bullies, but I see even the ones who went to become Finns Party voters and leaders have issues where they are asking for justice.
In the UK (early 70s), the average age was 23/24 to have a first child.
In my view, the energies of Libra and Pluto do not mesh well.
Life isn’t always ‘fair’ and ‘equal’. I think Pluto (scorpio) understands that. We’re all on different journeys and we’re not all dealt the same cards in this life. But then I am receptive to the concept of karma. Baggage from previous lifetimes. I know not everyone is.
Apologies for responding late to this thread. I don’t get alerts! Appreciate everyones responses/input.
There is something about the 2040s. 2042 Eris the Chaos planet changes sign to Taurus. So those late 2030s might have some Neptune conjunct Eris. Then as Pluto move into Pisces will sextile Eris in taurus.
The Uranus-Pluto Opposition as well. Looks to be a tumultuous time, to say the least, and the “harvest time” for many of the seeds planted during the mid 1960s conjunction.
Pluto in Aquarius this time around will be just as revolutionary as other cycles, though maybe a notch or two less dramatic than the most recent previous one.
Let’s keep in mind, Aquarius Pluto in the late 1700s saw a devastating opposition from Uranus in Leo. Leo obviously represents kings, and we all know the fate of the French King Louis XIV, as well as the French nobility. Ironically, this period gave way to Napoleon, himself a Leo, and the first modern-era Dictator. There were sweeping changes in France and throughout Europe. Meanwhile, the US codified its Constitution, in the late 1780s, a revolutionary document setting the underpinnings of the first modern democracy.
Instead of an opposition leading this time around, we instead have a trine between Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius starting off in July this year. By the time Uranus and Pluto oppose each other in the mid 2040s, Uranus will be in Virgo while Pluto will be in Pisces, so a very different energy coming to head.
The obvious issues this time around for Pluto in Aquarius will be with computer technology—AI specifically—and its implications for many aspects of our daily lives, which will be particularly highlighted while Uranus transits Gemini. Big shifts in communication, short-distance travel, and commerce. AI will probably displace a lot of jobs, and we will also see dramatic leaps in robotics/automation.
When Uranus moves into Cancer in 2032-33, family and home dynamics are likely to see big changes. Maybe families will become multi-generational again, or else we may see what constitutes home life change entirely, perhaps being shared by multiple families, or “Friends” style arrangements becoming the norm in urban and rural areas alike. There is certainly a communal quality with Aquarius, and I think we will see this expressed on a wide scale before the transit is complete.
By the time Uranus returns to Leo in the later 2030s, there likely will be mass movements mounting against authoritarian leaders who have overestimated their mandates.
The Pluto in Aquarius generation is going to come of age during the late 2040s, into the 2050s and 2060s. Major aspects that punctuate these years include the aforementioned Uranus-Pluto opposition of 2046-8, the next Saturn-Pluto conjunction (Pisces) in 2053, and the opening Neptune-Pluto Square in 2061-64. Not to mention Pluto starting its own new cycle in Aries in 2066-67. Definitely a period of major transitions mid-century, to say the least. They will have to navigate a great deal of change, and transform civilization to adapt.
A reputable economic think tank (can’t recall the name) wrote a piece a couple of years ago predicting that approx 48% of corporate jobs will be replaced by AI in next 5-10 years. Most companies already using AI to some degree. Apparently, the only jobs so far that are not going to affected so greatly, approx 13% only, will be skilled tradesman roles like carpentry, plumbing, electrical etc.
I think learning how to repair robots and electronics is a good skill to have at the moment but then who knows maybe eventually robots will learn to repair themselves. And the importance of electricity supply is now at the forefront. No electricity no AI.
Thanks for this…humanity evolving…well, those who accept and adapt will grow, as usual unlike others
Great lists, Marjorie. Pluto in Leo ushered in rock ‘n’ roll, TV and saw the growth of movies and theme parks in the fun-filled heydey of youth culture that catered to the boomers.
Pluto in Virgo saw the advent of hippies and the back to the land movement, as well as concern about the purity of food and healthy eating, which is still with us today.
Love those quotes from Michel de Montaigne.
If I remember correctly, in the UK, in the early part of Pluto in Sagittarius, a series of fatal train crashes occurred and also foot & mouth disease in 2001. I also think there was an outbreak of mad cow disease.
