OCD – blocked Mars leading to hyper-anxiety

Actress Tuppence Middleton, of Downton Abbey and War & Peace renown has been speaking of her obsessive compulsive disorder which constantly threatens to overwhelm her.

This is a speedy and not comprehensive flit across a few well known OCD sufferers.

Tuppence Middleton, 21 February 1987, is a Sun Pisces trine Pluto, sextile Neptune with a heavily aspected Mars in Taurus – trine Neptune and Uranus and widely opposition Pluto; with her Saturn semi-sextile her Mars/Pluto midpoint.

Afflicted Mars appear to be a constant theme. Khloe Kardashashian, 27 June 1984, has Mars Saturn conjunct in Scorpio and her Saturn conjunct her Mars/Pluto midpoint and her Moon = Mars/Saturn midpoint.

Howard Stern, 12 January 1954, a Capricorn Sun Venus opposition Uranus square Neptune, also has Mars Saturn conjunct in Scorpio; and his BML conjunct his Mars/Pluto midpoint.

Billy Bob Thornton, 4 August 1955 7.05 am Hot Springs Arkansas, has his Sun Mars conjunct in Leo  square Saturn in Scorpio with his 6th house Aquarius Moon opposition his Mars/Pluto midpoint.

Daniel Radcliffe, 23 July 1989 another Sun Leo and Mars in Leo has his Sun square his Mars/Saturn midpoint. His Uranus square his Mars/Pluto midpoint and his Moon possibly also opposition his Mars/Pluto plus his Pluto square his Sun/Mars midpoint.,

Charlize Theron, 7 August 1975 8.23 am Benoni, South Africa,  a Sun, Mercury in Leo with Mars in Taurus. Her Moon is conjunct her Mars/Uranus midpoint. Her Mars/Pluto midpoint is conjunct her Moon/Saturn midpoint.

Not comprehensive but interesting. Suppressed anger and thus fear, not surprisingly leads to hyper-anxiety.

  1. Billy Bob Thornton’s 12 the house. Not sure I’ve ever seen one that crowded. He has only one planet, a Moon/Aquarius, in the Western hemisphere and opposite Jup, Sun, Mars and Pluto/Leo. I guess it’s beneficial to him that that Moon in his 6th played out as an acting career because you wonder where would he be without it.

  2. David Beckham has Page, an OCD indicator exactly conj his Mars/Pluto
midpoint. Rafal Nidal has Page conj his natal Mars.
You can find the location of your own OCD indicator
here……www.true-node.com/eph3…type in your birthdata, use noon for
time of birth. Where it says Sun, Moon for body….erase that and
enter one of the following OCD indicators, Freud, or Page. Then
hit enter and you get an ephemeris showing the location of Freud or Page.

  3. I was born not long after Billy Bob Thornton and have many of the same aspects albeit in different houses. I have never been officially diagnosed and never thought I was OCD except in terms of having an ordered immediate environment (neat freak). I used to say it was such chaos in my head that it was necessary for the environment to be ordered for me to be able to function at all. My daughter (also afflicted Mars in 6th opp. Pluto and with official ADHD diagnosis) says I should get therapy but what’s the point at my age? I’ve discovered my own coping strategies and now I no longer have to dance to anyone else’s tune. I find I am increasingly not bothered by the world’s expectations and that’s the best coping strategy of all. It seems to me that most people are neurodivergent in some way.

  4. Many high level athletes such as David Beckham and Rafa Nadal suffer from OCD, presumably a by- product of their particular sports which rely heavily on individual performance and accuracy. Golfers too. Or maybe that’s why they were attracted to them in the first place.

  5. I thought that therapies for OCD advanced much in recent years, and that exposure is one of the key things. There are also many self-help books by psychologists, psuchiatrists, doctors… written in recent years about how to cope with it and even perhaps heal permanently.

    • OCD can be managed, but it isn’t something that can easily be cured. Exposure therapy can work for some, but Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can have good outcomes for OCD as well as BDD (body dysmorphic disorder) which is related to OCD and shares many characteristics. There can be a link with trauma and childhood trauma. Intrusive thoughts are extremely distressing and not something one can control. These therapies combined with medication (I have been on Venlafaxine for 10 years now) can help the sufferers manage the disorder.

  6. I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I was diagnosed with it back in 1995 and I see both a psychiatrist and a psychologist. I’m also on Sertraline and Buspirone medication.

I know in my chart, my Mars is in Taurus in the 6th house of health.

  7. I just checked the chart of a relative with OCD and sure enough, he has mars/saturn conj in Sagittarius square merc/venus in pisces. Makes absolute sense that suppressed anger/fear manifests as a compulsive need to order as an attempt to control intense emotions.

  8. Freud was the first to clearly identify and study OCD, and was a pioneer in
the field. It is also called Anankastic Personality Disorder.
Westphalia….describes symptoms collectively as disordered intellectual function.

  9. Additionally, there are 3 more indicators for OCD based on the psychologists
who studied the disorder….namely Freud, Page and Westphalia.
Middleton has Freud square her Mars; Kardashian has Freud trine her
Mars/Pluto midpoint; Stern has Freud conj his Mars; Thornton has his
    Freud-Sun midpt trine his Mars; Radcliffe has Page conj his Mars;
Theron has Page quindecile, 165, her Mars, and Freud sextile her Mars.

  10. I have an ocd related disorder since teens.

It is hell aand I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

(Mars in Scorpio, conjunct Moon, Mercury and Neptune sextile Pluto rising in Virgo.)

    • I have a retrograde Mercury. I don’t know if that would contribute to the disorder, such as the tendency to repeat actions over and over again. Thank you, Martha for those details.
