Juno is considered one of the four major asteroids and named after the Roman goddess of marriage and queen of the gods. In addition to commitment, fairness, love and relationships and wealth her meaning also encompasses betrayal through infidelity. She is deemed a protector of women, especially during childbirth. She is often fused with the Greek goddess Hera, although Hera was more actively jealous and vengeful. Juno was loyal and stayed in an unfaithful marriage to Jupiter – making the most of her connections.
A new book on JUNO, More Than Meets the Eye by Lianne McCafferty breaks new ground by covering Juno in depth with mythological background and multiple chart examples both personal and mundane as well as in synastry.
As an ingenue to the world of asteroids I am still struggling to grasp the impact of Juno in signs and houses. So this is open forum for other more informed comments.
Juno was discovered 1 September 1804 10.12 pm Lilienthal, Germany at 2 degrees Aries in a Cardinal Grand Cross involving Chiron, Saturn and Mars – all of which will be impacted by the transiting Neptune Saturn conjunction in Aries over the next three years and by tr Uranus square the Pluto opposition Sun in 2028 – so arguably our understanding of its meaning may undergo adjustments before the end of the decade.
Madame Pompadour is highlighted in Lianne McCafferty’s book, the influential mistress of King Louis XV and patroness of the arts. Born 29 December 1721 10.15 am Paris, she has Juno in Pisces in her 1st house conjunct Chiron and Ceres.
On a quick flip through the astro-archives – Imelda Marcos, Jackie Kennedy, Sarah Ferguson (Duchess of York), Zsa Zsa Gabor all have Juno either in their 1st or conjunct their Ascendant – so a high profile marriage plus making the most of your connections seems to work.
But Rosa Parks, civil right activist and Betty Freidan, feminist civil rights activist also have Juno in their 1st, and close to the Ascendant. Which may point to Juno’s insistence on fairness.
Prince William also has Juno in his 1st.
Donald Trump has his Juno conjunct Chiron conjunct his 2nd house Jupiter – for a wealth connection. Several charts I looked at had Juno conjunct Chiron which appears to indicate a deep emotional need for healing and growth within partnerships and committed relationships. In Trump’s case definitely – responsibility where money commitments are concerned needs worked at.
My Juno is in my 10th and conjunct my Sun (~3 degrees) and MC (~5 degrees) in my natal chart. How does one interpret Juno outside the 1st and 2nd houses?
I’ve just realised Juno is conjunct Algol in Taurus in my 6th, soon to be conjuncted by transiting Uranus. I wish I hadn’t looked.
Andrew Hubermann has Juno conjunct Chiron Jupiter and Neptune in the 10th house. His podcasts have a reach and influence which few have especially serious topics are discussed concerning humanity at this time.
“Donald Trump has his Juno conjunct Chiron conjunct his 2nd house Jupiter.”
Juno has a 4.5 year orbit, Chiron a 50 year orbit. So many 1946 children who were conceived Autumn of 1945 would have the same conjunction DJT has, right? I think this is VERY significative. Soldiers coming back from WWII. There are three US Presidents born essentially within 2 months from each other, even if only Bush Sr. served.
I am myself a Libra Juno, although mine isn’t really in orb with the rest of my Libra using a very tight orbit, and have found it fascinating asteroid. I think it is very political, much in line with what Lumiere wrote about Jupiter /Juno.
@Solaia The divorce of Donald and Ivana included a major fight over her work at The Plaza, which she had redecorated with that lavish almost French Roccoco style. Pink marble bathrooms, gold fixtures. The Baby boomers Leo Pluto-Libra Neptune just went wild over it. She was the executive but the hotel was his love. His office was chosen so he could look down on it and covet it, before he bought it. The Plaza was a nymph.
The Plaza began the problems in the marriage and the power marriage crumbled. He lost the hotel as well. Wounded Juno.
I remember Ivana had a movie cameo in First Wives Club where she came in and said something close to Don’t get even, get everything. She was a Taurus Juno in the 5h. The Tauran Queen on the stage.
@Lumiere, oh, a reminder from the simpler times DJT was just one of the Page Six regulars.
Amusingly Ivana used the Donald’s published flip remark that he paid for her work by giving her a dollar and her clothes! It overturned the pre-nup. After the divorce they were good friends and he bailed her out when her various amorous adventures got too complicated for her.
Virgoflake: Fascinating. Thanks for that. I do remember that whenever the aforementioned astrologer pointed to a Juno aspect in my chart, there was something decorative going on in my life, whether it was buying an art print for my home or taking a ring to a jeweler to have it appraised or spending a significant amount of time with an artist friend or taking a pottery class…..whatever, it always pertained to decorative things or people who worked in that realm.
I’ve written an online article about Juno’s discovery chart and I’m fascinated with Juno as a goddess because we see her archetype all the time but don’t recognize it because most people don’t even plot her in the charts. I’ve summarized the major points below.
So the modern marriage and the marriage of Juno and Jupiter are two different things. Jupiter didn’t marry her because he loved her, he married her because she is the Queen. We read myths through modern eyes. ie, Juno stayed with Jupiter although he was a cheater. That isn’t a point of the myth. Juno and Jupiter had a marriage of state, of course they stayed together. They were married for Olympus. Jackie Kennedy has a Scorpio Juno conjunct her Ascendant and south node but in the twelfth house. Read about that marriage, it had more to do with status than love, and also there is a story that she got tired of Jack’s cheating but his father came and straight up offered her money to stay with him for his career. Jackie was behind the palace walls in the role of a consort queen-wife.
Jupiter actually married Metis first then ate her because her child would be wiser than its father. Athena. Jupiter then tried to court Thetis but got scared off by a prophesy about her children. Grandpa Uranus got chopped by his son. Father Saturn got overthrown by his children. Jupiter wasn’t planning on taking up the regular career of the mature man in his family.
Juno, or Hera, was too dangerous to be allowed to marry someone else. All of Jupiter’s loves never threatened his marriage ever.
Juno in her chart is in Aries in the eleventh. I think of her as the fountain of creative energetic force. Rejuvenation. All of her children were fiery. She is not rebirth, she represents in situ vigor and renewal and to a God-King who is afraid of being overthrown always being renewed without rebirth is more potent than love. The Goddess-Queen is a Mercury Ascendant opposing Sagittarius. The God and the Goddess.
ty Lumière I love this.
(Taurus asc, Juno 29+ capricorn)
Astomix.com has wealth of information concerning Juno, her house placements and angles to natal planets/points. Spot on with my placement and others I know.
My Juno is also in Pisces conjunct Chiron but on the Descendant cusp and is in opposition to my Pluto. It is close to my husband’s Venus and we first met because we were both connected to a local Arts organisation.
We also have Venus/Chiron and Mars/Chiron crossovers in our synastry, which is interesting because our relationship has helped both of us to understand and deal with our childhood wounds. Also have Sun/Moon conjunction in Libra in our synastry.
According to a (very good) astrologer I used to regularly consult, Juno is about all things decorative, as in jewelry, etc.
Julie, Vulcan’s role here is interesting. He was the son of Juno and Jupiter, but did not inherit the striking beauty of his parents. Instead Juno hurled the bawling infant from Mount Olympus and he fell into the volcano, Etna rendering him lame and as he fell further into the depths of the ocean, was rescued by the sea goddess, Thetis who raised him as her own son. Later, he discovered the embers of a fisherman’s fire and concealing the hot embers, he took them to his grotto, where he discovered that with bellows he could increase the heat and could melt metals.
Vulcan thus became known for the beautiful objects, thrones and jewellery he could make.
