Jamaica – Pluto on Neptune and Eclipses ++ 1692 earthquake ++ Jamaica 1494 ++ Lisbon quake 1755

Hurricane Melissa now a Category 5 hurricane heading for Jamaica has the ‘ingredients to be a catastrophic storm’, meteorological experts warn. There are likely to be a devastating storm-surge, extreme winds and high rainfall.

It is likely that no part of Jamaica will be ‘spared from the effects of the monster hurricane, whose deadly combination of rapid intensification and snail-paced advancement is a recipe for a catastrophic, record-breaking natural disaster.’ Maximum impact is likely to be tomorrow with this reckoned to be the strongest hurricane ever to hit Jamaica.

Jamaica, 6 August 1962 12am Kingston, had its late Virgo Venus in line with the recent Solar Eclipse which usually accompanies an emotionally upsetting series of events. Plus a devastating Solar Arc Pluto conjunct the Neptune exact at the moment creating confusion and staying in effect for several months,

The September Lunar Eclipse set for Kingston, Jamaica has a swampy Neptune on the IC. And the September Solar Eclipse had powerful, possibly-destructive Pluto on the Ascendant. Eclipse effects last for several months after and regions with planets on the axis – Midheaven, IC, Asc and Desc – are usually in line for significant effects.

Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic are also likely to be affected.

Cuba with its 29 degree Scorpio Midheaven and 28 degree Taurus Sun will be in for a turbulent few months through till spring 2026 with tr Uranus in hard aspect.

Add On: The 1692 Jamaica earthquake struck Port Royal, Jamaica, on 7 June. A stopped pocket watch found in the harbour during a 1959 excavation indicated that it occurred around 11:43 AM local time. (The problem is whether it was still running on Spanish GC calendar or having come under the English in recent years had reverted to the JC calendar which makes a difference of about 10 degrees to the Sun.) But it did have Uranus in early Gemini, Neptune in mid Pisces and Pluto in late Cancer – so there are some similarities. JC calendar version above.

The 1692 earthquake caused most of the city to sink below sea level. About 2,000 people died as a result of the earthquake and the following tsunami, and another 3,000 people died in the following days due to injuries and disease.

ADD ON 2: Christopher Columbus stumbled on Jamaica on 5 May 1494 which is another earlier chart. At the 1692 earthquake the Solar Arc Pluto was conjunct the Mars which does suggest a massively destructive event. The Solar Arc Mars was square Jupiter adding a layer of magnification with tr Saturn being around the conjunction to Mars and square Jupiter.

Usually for major natural disasters like earthquakes Pluto Neptune contacts are ones to look for. Or Uranus Neptune. Mars Saturn adds a layer of destructive energy. .Jupiter as ever tricky just exaggerates the negative and well as the positive.

ADD ON 3: On 1 November 1755 the Great Lisbon earthquake, hit Portugal. In combination with subsequent fires and a tsunami, the earthquake almost completely destroyed Lisbon and adjoining areas. Killing an estimated 30,000–40,000.

There are two charts for early Portugal – 24 June 1128 and 5 October 1143.  At the 1755 quake on the earlier 1128 chart tr Neptune was square Pluto for devastation and confusion; and tr Pluto was square Uranus for turbulence.

On the 1143 chart tr Pluto was conjunct the Solar Arc Saturn for hardship and deprivation; tr Neptune was square Neptune for confusion; tr Saturn was heading to hard aspect the SA Pluto opposition Mars for destruction and fear. The Solar Arc Uranus opposition Pluto was also impacting on the natal Jupiter inflating the inherent instability.

  1. Thanks for the add-ons, Marjorie! Fascinating. Makes one wonder if such aspects could predict earthquakes etc. better, if we only knew how “it”, whatever it is, works and could look for it in advance. I’m thinking of the west coast of N. America and the hype about the big one, as well as places like Indonesia, Turkey and Japan. How big and when? It is pretty discouraging to note how many places, Japan being the exception, suffer through horrible disasters, but it doesn’t change things much. Their preparations don’t seem to improve for the future repetition that everyone knows is coming sooner or later.

  2. Thanks for the 1692 chart!

Jupiter conj Uranus was opposite Saturn in the 1692 chart, and Mars was trine Saturn with a 10 degree orb.

So Mars and Saturn doing their destructive thing, the trine making it “easy”, and Jupiter amplifying everything. The current grand trine is Mars trine Saturn trine Jupiter.

I wonder if Mars trine Saturn is linked to natural disasters the way Mars square Saturn is linked to war?

  3. I hope the devastation isn’t too terrible. Melissa looked terrifying on the news yesterday. Re 1988’s Hurricane Gilbert, there are some spooky astro resonances:

“On September 10, Gilbert attained hurricane intensity, and rapidly intensified into a Category 3 hurricane on September 11. After striking Jamaica the following day, rapid intensification occurred once again, and the storm became a Category 5 hurricane” Wiki

I looked at the most intense day of Gilbert’s existence, 13 September, 1988

Tr Pluto 10 Scorpio in 1988 was conjunct the Jamaica Neptune

A Solar Eclipse at 18 Virgo on 11th September 1988 aligns with the tr S Node September 2025
A Solar Eclipse at 27 Pisces on 18 March 1988 opposed Jamaica’s Venus. This September, the Virgo Solar Eclipse aligned with it. In September, Saturn 26 Sagittarius was conjunct Uranus, 27 Sagittarius, square that eclipse, and perhaps emphasising the degree of Scheat in Pisces?

Mars 9 Aries was square Neptune 7 Capricorn in 1988. In the SA for Jamaica here, Saturn 9 Aries squares Neptune 12 Capricorn

Jupiter was 5 Gemini in 1988, as it was in 1692 – another sensitive point?

    • That’s Mars at 9 Aries with a sextile from Jupiter to make the destruction “easy”.

      Mars is currently trine Jupiter.

I was leaning towards natural disasters being Mars-Saturn events, but maybe they’re Mars-Jupiter events?

      • Hi Candy – I tend to see Jupiter as the Wheel of Fortune in the Tarot’s Major Arcana. “Round and round and round she goes, where she lands, nobody knows” as the old casino roulette wheel saying goes! Also, at the back of my mind is Zeus/Jupiter who might have been king of the gods, but his ‘blessings’ weren’t always exactly welcome ones…..
And Saturn, which has such a dour general reputation, can bring all manner of gifts – albeit often ones in disguise.

  4. The current grand trine in water has the added complication of Neptune being conjunct scheat.

This could be the worst catastrophe for Jamaica since 1692.

Some details about the 1692 incident: “On June 7, 1692, a massive earthquake devastated the town of Port Royal in Jamaica, killing thousands. The strong tremors, soil liquefaction and a tsunami brought on by the earthquake combined to destroy the entire town. Port Royal was built on a peninsula off the coast of Jamaica in the harbour across from present-day Kingston.”

Would be interested in seeing a chart analysis of the 1692 event and how it compares to today’s event.

  5. Marjorie, thank you for your insight, beautiful truth in your statement “Aspects being strange creatures that work both ways at the same time”. Poor Jamaica, the weather reports are predicting worse devastation than the previous bad storm in 1988.

  6. There is water everywhere (6 planets in) and it goes to show that a Grand Trine can just as well bring MORE bad than good, or at least a lot of bad, with maybe a lot of good (later?). Big results due to Jupiter, anyway, just as easily as good ones. Aspects being strange creatures that work both ways at the same time.

At 6pm, October 27, 2025, Kingston Jamaica, the hurricane expresses with a Jupiter in Cancer (water) in the 3rd, near the cusp of the 4th (homeland); trine Mars/Mercury in Scorpio (water) in the 7th at late degrees (will they get international help, we hope?); trine Neptune/Saturn both retrograde in Pisces (water) in the 11th also at lalte degrees (will the government be capable in Pisces Rx?). Mercury is conjunct Mars in the 7th. Saturn being Rx with Neptune may indicate delays in getting help to people who will surely need it.

The Sun in Scorpio is a loner, with no aspects other than a separating square from Pluto. Chiron Rx (tough luck) is in Aries ruled by Mars, in the 12th, another house of misfortune, square Jupiter.

Also, Uranus is in air/wind in the 1st (hit to the body) trine Pluto in Aquarius, also in air/wind, at the MC, opposed by the Jupiter in Cancer. The Moon is in the 9th in Capricorn (international help will be tough to get, since Cap is ruled by Saturn) and the Moon is square Venus in Libra (more air) conjunct the Vertex in the 6th (house of illness and misfortune). Venus, the planet of money in the 6th rules the Ascendant in Taurus (landfall?). A beautiful country, but Venus money in Libra (negotiation) in the 6ths indicates problems too (or illness to follow). Yikes, the more I look at this, the worse it gets. I hope I’m on too much of a roll here and the Jupiter actually brings some good stuff to the people (4th house) as well!

Trines have such a cheery reputation, but they can be treacherous too. They can make things too easy (for the wind). Here Jupiter, the great benefic, is not showing much mercy that I can see, although it is exalted. I hope it helps, but it looks like a very tough chart, despite the benefics. Jamaicans look to be pretty much on their own (Sun). One should never buy the hype about any planet – they all have 2 sides!
