Iran – convenient distraction from woes at home

Deflecting from domestic unrest and failures into foreign forays is standard for unpopular political leaders but having been voted in on an avoiding-military entanglements-abroad platform, Trump’s latest broadside against Iran is unlikely to appeal to his MAGA voters.

A build-up of US military forces in the Gulf with a naval fleet headed by the Aircraft Carrier Abraham Lincoln could be the forerunner to new US airstrikes on Iran within a few days. Despite Trump’s recent supportive rhetoric about anti-regime protestors recently, this chest-beating appears to be more about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The recent unrest with widespread street demonstrations violently suppressed by the authorities has led to many thousands of deaths.

It is the largest increase of US military assets in the region since B-2 bombers dropped 30,000lb bombs on three of the Iran’s nuclear facilities in June last year. At that point Saturn Neptune were in early Aries with Uranus in final degree Taurus.

The Iran 22 December 1501 chart does have tr Uranus opposing the Pluto from the first days of February to the end of the month for extreme turbulence and given that the Pluto is opposing Mars on this Iran chart it does suggest a high-risk time, more so than last June.

The Iran chart also has its Sun at final degree Sagittarius which has just finished the tr Neptune square with tr Saturn following suit within days.

The upcoming February Solar Eclipse located to Teheran has Pluto on the Descendant which is descriptive of relationship tensions and the New Moon itself at 20 degrees Aquarius is also square the Iran Pluto exactly.

Relationship charts between the USA and Iran 1501 and Iran 1 April 1979 both look pressured and turbulent.

The 2025 Inauguration Second Trump Term chart has tr Saturn conjunct the Neptune/Node midpoint exactly now = losses, deceit, untruthfulness. And moving to square the Neptune/Pluto midpoint in March which has a range of meanings from obsessions, mental torment to an association with nuclear issues.

The USS Abraham Lincoln, hull laid down 3 November 1984, has a formidably determined Sun in Scorpio conjunct Saturn on one side and Pluto on the other. It looks edgy at the moment as it awaits orders from the USA with Solar Arc Neptune square the Sun at this year; tr Saturn conjunct the Neptune exactly now bringing uncertainty.

I was pondering on an increasingly-wandered and unhinged Trump’s early indoctrination by his mentor Roy Cohn:

Never admit fault or apologize.

Attack and counter-attack: with greater force.

Use the media: to one’s advantage, even creating chaos.

“Never back down”: and “make stuff up” if needed.

Historical novelist Thomas Mallon, who wrote the 2006 novel Fellow Travelers, the basis for the 2024 The Apprentice film about Trump’s rise via Roy Cohn remarked: “One surprise – not evident when I was starting the novel 20 years ago – is that Cohn would have a vampiric afterlife. And of course he owes that to Trump.” Cohn does keep coming back from the dead. “Insofar as he personally affected Trump’s thinking and behaviour, one realises that Cohn has had an impact on the republic, albeit at intervals, for 70 years.”

‘Cohn is best known now for the lessons he taught Trump, but even before that he was an outsized figure running through US politics and culture (McCarthy etc). To note his most flagrant hypocrisy, Cohn was a gay man who persecuted other gay people out of their government jobs during what became known as the Lavender Scare of the 1950s. Throughout his life, he bullied people and tried to bully facts. He died of Aids in 1986, insisting publicly that he had liver cancer and denying to the end that he was gay, despite taking his lovers along to public events.’

What is notable is that Cohn, 20 February 1927, with five planets in Pisces including his Sun also had his Pluto in Cancer conjunct the USA Sun – a limpet vampire who never lets go. He also had his Mars in final degree Taurus which tr Uranus will be conjunct in March – so interesting to see what happens if his conditioning of Trump goes awry.

His relationship with Trump was unsurprisingly controlling with a composite Sun square Pluto which hooks exactly into the fanatical USA Pluto in late Capricorn; with their composite Mars exactly conjunct the USA Sun.  A spooky tie-up tapping into the heart and soul of the USA.

  1. Marjorie, I note that there are no comments to this post to date. I suppose that is because both topics, Iran and Cohn, are so uncomfortable to think about, and all the more so because the prominent degrees around 25 – 27 Taurus indicate treachery, betrayal and hatred, the hallmarks of bitter Algol.

I don’t quite ‘get’ how the jump works from Iran to Cohn, but you do say you are pondering Trump’s early indoctrination. And there is plenty of relevance as to the level of distrust and falsehood. Obviously, Trump learned a lot about the use of lying as a tool from a mentor like Cohn, whose creepy reputation has never been softened with revelations about his early life – it just seems to have been awful from his childhood onwards. Undoubtedly any soul should be entitled to some sympathy and forgiveness, especially from true Christians, but the forgiveness bit is a pretty big pill to swallow. Your comment as to a “limpet vampire” is only too vivid – haven’t ever thought of that before!

As to Iran, it is hard to say who is betraying whom, either inside the country with its overwhelming suppressive regime, or betrayal pending by Trump as to his promise of no more foreign wars. It’s not pretty when reptiles fight and this feels like a reptilian, cold blooded sort of scenario. Even as a limited showdown (would that even be possible with Isreal under Netanyahu?) it is unimaginable, but enlarged beyond the region it could be potentially worldwide in scale. This is not news – everybody knows there is this risk, which is all the more serious with a man at the helm whose brain is not working clearing and incapable of rational assessment. This feels like a possible Cuban missile crisis setup, which I am old enough to remember from my childhood, seeing Walter Cronkite on the news.

So, looking at the composite and other charts, what is there to say this threat, including the dark Cohn-like actors in the background, will go ahead? Or will it pass with a chill of fear, for now, and leave the resolution for yet another day?

I’m not sure I would trust that 1501 date for Iran much, for starters. But assuming it is close enough, the composite Iran/USA chart has Sun at the top, next to Mercury RX, both in range of Algol. Iran’s Mars is at 25 Taurus, on top of Algog. This is not a picture of a nice couple. The Moon’s nodes in Leo Rx in the 12th (behind the scenes) and Saturn in Virgo Rx in the 1st are at 26 degrees. They are in adjoining houses – not working together, but connected by degree.

Furthermore, composite Mercury Rx indicates miscommunication and misunderstanding from the start (the composite being a blend of both birth charts). Composite Mars at 8 Taurus, the sign of money, is in the house of foreign affairs. Mars is past exact opposition to untrustworty, secretive Neptune at 6 Scorpio in the 3rd house of negotiations. Pluto, the planet of ultimate power (nuclear) is retrograde in the 4th of the homeland(s) and inconjunct Mars, so Pluto is a reluctant actor and Mars is holding off, being inconjunct. Which generally summarizes the status of the two countries for decades.

Now comes the eclipse. Will there be a breakthrough? The eclipse chart has Venus and the North Node (progress) at 8 degrees in the house of debt and finance (the enemy’s money). But who is the enemy? 7th house has Pluto widely conjunct Mars in Aquarius, which is an air sign (talk, not much action). When set to Washington DC, Mars is peregrine (no effective aspects) in the 12th house of the eclipse chart. The 12th is a secret house, and Mars is applying to the Part of Fortune. Mars’ ruler in Aquarius is Saturn and Saturn is exactly conjunct Neptune at 0 Aries, a critical degree, but just moved into a new sign (away from ideological Pisces). Aries is a new start. Also, the eclipse at 28 Aquarius in the 1st house (Washington) is square Uranus in the 3rd of negotiations in the sign of Taurus (money).

Because Saturn and Neptune (conjunct) will have moved out of the ideological sphere (Pisces) by the eclipse date, and into Aries, I expect that vigorous negotiations will ensue behind the scenes. Mars is applying to a winning position (Part of Fortune) and its alternate ruler, Uranus, is in Taurus, a sign of trade. I think the money angle will prevail. War is expensive and Mars in Aquarius demands to be popular in some way. This is not a picture of an ideal solution, but I think it may indicate,if not a thaw, at least a cold hearted look at reality.

The Ayatollahs are not stupid – they have hung on to their brutal regime, but the riots and deaths are signalling a change must happen. I think they will cave and leave some of their extremism (Neptune) behind. Pluto is unconnected by degree and hiding in the 12th (Washington chart), but eventually Saturn/Neptune (at 0 degrees) will sextile it. That may make for a more diplomatic approach.

Which means Trump just might get a win. He does have an amazing progressed Venus/Jupiter conjunction at 25 Libra in the 3rd of legal negotiations, exactly square his natal Venus at 25 Cancer in the 11th of associates (Congress) just now. And his progressed Moon at 24 Scorpio on the cusp of the 4th (homeland) is exactly TRINE his natal Saturn/Venus conjunction at 24-25 Cancer. That is work and money (Saturn/Venus) going in his favour. People may not start loving him any time soon, but (sorry), Trump might actually do some good? For which, if he pulls it off in his contradictory fashion any time soon, he would deserve a Nobel, dislike him or not. (And maybe only an a***ole could pull it off, considering the nature of the players.)

If so, it would at least buy a bit of time. Perhaps all with Iran is not lost. Money talks. Time will tell. Just my opinion.

    • Cohn = ‘offence is the best defence’ as Trump pinballs away from one failure to brew up chaos in another quarter. Bit of a leap I admit but his ‘deliberate’ craziness has been the hallmark of his progress over the years. Nothing is what it seems in terms of motives.
