Conservative leader Friedrich Merz has won a parliament vote to become Germany’s next chancellor at the second attempt. He initially fell six votes short of the majority he needed on Tuesday morning – ‘a significant blow to his prestige and an unprecedented failure in post-war German history.’
His coalition with the Social Democrats should have had enough seats in parliament from the start, with 328 MPs in total, but it is thought 18 of them dissented during the first vote.
He was elected with the frustratingly trapped Mars opposition Pluto still in place. At the morning vote which he lost around 10.45am it was sitting exactly with Pluto on the Descendant and Mars on the Ascendant for an infuriating result. By circa 4.28pm for the second vote it had moved to the 5th/11th house which is a minor improvement; though Sun in the 8th hints at slow progress with Saturn, Scheat, Neptune on the Descendant hinting at disappointment in partnerships both internal and external since the Germany/EU relationship looks very troubled ahead.
He takes over at a time when Germany is facing a time of setbacks, panic and uncertainty with the Tr Neptune Saturn in Aries in hard aspect to the Germany Mars in Libra square Saturn in Capricorn in 2025/26, followed by a pressured tr Pluto square the Germany Moon in 2026/27 hinting at a mutinous electorate.
Merz, 11 November 1955, a stalwart Sun Saturn in Scorpio with Jupiter Pluto in late Leo has endurance but not flexibility. Yet with tr Pluto opposition his Uranus and tr Uranus and tr Neptune Saturn also in aspect to his Uranus he will have no option but to bend with changing circumstances.
I think it was more of a warning shot across the gov’t bows from the coalition parties: listen to us or we’ll bring down the government. Which may still happen, of course. But the time delay actually helped him somewhat astrologically. People are putting too much emphasis on the ‘never happened before’ rhetoric.
I am absolutely not convinced that Merkel was a Russian asset. She is a realist and recognized that leaving Russia out in the cold would make Putin more dangerous. In that at least she was right and indeed Putin only made his expansionist move on Ukraine after she had left the world stage.
The German reunification chart may work better for Germany as it was split into two for over forty years and the Sun in Libra may chime better with Merz’ natal Moon: https://www.astrotheme.com/astrology/German_reunification_(1990)
According to my trusted and experienced geopolitical analyst, this astonishing initial outcome was the result of Merkel’s allies in the Bundestag. In many post-communist countries, there is a strong belief that Merkel was, to some extent, a covert supporter of Russia. This view is not entirely baseless when considering her consistently conciliatory approach to Russia and its allies, as well as her role in making Germany heavily dependent on Russian gas.
It’s also worth noting that Merkel’s family moved from Hamburg to East Germany, where she grew up, socialized, and was educated. This move raises significant questions, especially considering that most East Germans were fleeing in the opposite direction, from the Soviet-controlled East to the democratic West. Her father was a pastor, which makes the move even more puzzling given the East German regime’s staunchly anti-clerical stance.
Merkel and Merz were strongly politically opposed. Interestingly, Merkel’s astrological chart is notably fixed just like Merz´s, and their composite chart is marked by intense Mars-Pluto and Neptune-Uranus aspects, although not as severe as I had anticipated.
Marquis de Sade had Pluto on Ascendant in 12.
Great stuff Marjorie. Popcorn for the forthcoming election rerun in Germany.
Wow, Marjorie, your really tops with the news.
Those votes in the Bundestag were the news events of the day for me.
Thank you for looking into it and taking us through the house placements and how it would affect the Merz adminstration.
Pluto in the fifth house of fun sounds absolutely dire, almost sado-masochist.
On that point, I wonder if the Marquis de Sade (2nd June 1740, in Paris) had Pluto in his fifth.
