Andrew Cuomo – cometh the moment, cometh the man

Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York, is emerging as a key figure in the fight against coronavirus who can’t and won’t be silenced by Trump. New York State had 25,665 cases, with at least 157 deaths, which accounts for nearly 7 percent of global cases. He said the situation was escalating faster than expected, with new cases doubling every three days and projects they may need 140,000 hospital beds with at present only 53,000 available. Up to 40,000 intensive-care beds could be needed and he scoffed at the 400 ventilators sent in by federal authorities when they need 30,000. He said that New York was a harbinger for the rest of the country. “Look at us today,” he warned. “Where we are today, you will be in four weeks or five weeks or six weeks. We are your future.”

Born 6 December 1957 in New York, he’s a serious Sun Saturn in Sagittarius in an innovative trine to Uranus; with an uber-determined Mars in Scorpio in an excitable square to Uranus, so he likes to live on an adrenaline rush. His Mercury in practical Capricorn is in a persuasive trine to Pluto. He has planets in all three Air signs though not in aspect – a restless and communicative Gemini Moon, a tolerant and people-friendly Venus in Aquarius and Jupiter in fair-minded Libra. His healing Neptune is coincidentally conjunct a Scorpio North Node, tying him into the mood of the moment.

It’s a chart that really needs a birth time to make sense. Though his key midpoints tell a story. His Mars sits on his upbeat, crusading and lucky Sun/Jupiter midpoint. His Jupiter is conjunct his Saturn/Pluto midpoint so bleak conditions bring out the best in him. His Pluto is square his Mars/Saturn which will make him resourceful in crises.

At the moment and through this year and next, tr Pluto is square his Jupiter bringing enthusiasm, confidence and success. Though he’ll run into the buffers next year with Solar Arc Sun square his Mars. But he’s got resilience to spare and is used to shocks and emergencies.

  1. I really enjoy reading your “matter of fact” analysis and all the comments…I didn’t know much about him and got to hear somethings he said about Puerto Rico after the Maria Hurricane. I like the fact that he stood up for “Puertoricans” when he said they are American Citizens and deserve to be treated equally, after the much needed help from FEMA and the Fed Government didn’t materialized for the Island.

He got my attention as been a fair player (Sagittarius) that speaks his mind (Sag) but with tact / Iron cold facts (Mercury in Capricorn) and with a tactful and strategic use of resources (Venus in Cap)…In a way his chart was becoming to familiar for me without even knowing. I just found a couple of charts but not a birth time and I can pinpoint his Ascendant…BUT I see a little bit of me. I was born January 15th, 1957 at 11:55 AM (according to my Birth Certificate) SJU, PR. We share in common planet /sign placements. I like the way he handles himself, the Crisis, the way he speaks… Mine: Sun (10th House), Venus & Mercury in Capricorn (9th House); Saturn 10 degrees Sagittarius; North Node Scorpio (8th); Neptune Scorpio (7th); Part Fortune and Jupiter in Libra (6th)…Asc / Mars Aries…Moon in Cancer (4th)…

  2. Well, looks like your round noon chart was good Marjorie – he spoketh as he see-eth! He has the blessed ability to be able to separate his ego from his job – no evangelical, inspirational rubbish – just do it, get it done, move on. He certainly has an inner life and principles which he will not be bothered boring others with, a rare specimen these days. You can feel integrity, an odd thing in anyone involved in politics. He does not want power – he has a life! An old fashioned man at heart.

  3. From a Rolling Stone interview 4/4/20; You’ve rejected any talk of national political ambition right now. But the discussion has been thrust upon you by the moment. Have you been hearing from Democrats trying to draft you for a role in the November election?
I have real things to do, and real things to talk about. And that is not a real thing. I am governor of New York. It’s a job that I asked for. It’s a job that I believe I am prepared for. I believe I can make a difference in it. And everyone assumes, well, a politician just wants to take the next step on the ladder. Well, politicians always aren’t in it for themselves. Maybe, just maybe, sometimes there’s an elected official who actually means what he says. Or is going to do what he says he’s going to do. Wouldn’t that be refreshing? I said if elected, I will serve four years as governor of the state of New York. Period. And that’s what I’m going to do. Period. It’s all simpler than we make it. Say what you’re going to do. Do what you say. Do it with honor. Do it with integrity. Do it with skill. And that’s it. And you’ll sleep well at the end of the day, even if it is a very long day.

  4. Very interesting I was born 24 November 1957, and I have worked in healthcare and thrived on emergencies, but it can get tough on the old nerves!

  5. Interesting comments from Virgoflake and Solaia….you know his past… Oddly the noon chart seems to depict him quite well, Sun/Sat opp Moon – ugh! guess who was boss at home? – my instinct is that he’s fire and air/ earth initially…whatever time it is, Mars is the vocational indicator in Scorpio in the 8th – imagine! no messing! he has a goal, pursues it relentlessly, though in a subtle way – 8th house planets are never obvious or overt. He has an open face, but you feel more subtlety here…or finesse.
I thought an alternative time could be around 2.45 a.m. In your chart Marjorie, his node conjuncts the IC (opp MC which would bring him into the spotlight now) and the huge activity in his 11th (champion of the homeless, Aquarian sector of society… The noon chart gives Capricorn asc (political aspirations) opp Cancer (cook!) Moon in the 7th so the trad Italian(and possibly universal!) setup of Mum and Dad……anyway, he speaks up, should be heard, but I feel he’d loathe being very upfront or political in an international way – more a mover behind the scenes, winks, nods, invisibility…now you see me, now you don’t.

  6. How do his aspects look over the inauguration? Would not be surprised if Biden reverts on his female VP choice and goes for Cuomo given his rising popularity

  7. It’s interesting because not so long ago the haters were out for him, particularly when he named the new Tappan Zee Bridge after his father, former New York Governor Mario Cuomo. Maybe he looks better in a crisis, but in the past Cuomo has been criticized for cozy ties to New York’s real estate industry, back-room deals and an autocratic manner.
I’ve been curious why his 14-year relationship with food TV host Sandra Lee ended. He stood by her when she underwent surgery and other treatment for breast cancer.
I’ve always been a fan of Cuomo’s directness, which in the current crisis, is a welcome change from President Trump’s obfuscation and deception. And I think some of his TV appearances with his broadcaster brother, Chris Cuomo, make New York’s governor more human.

    • ‘I’ve been curious why his 14-year relationship with food TV host Sandra Lee ended. He stood by her when she underwent surgery and other treatment for breast cancer.’

Family interferance? His mother is still alive, and may not have been happy about this relationship. These kind of things matter for Italian families.

  8. I like the look of the Sun/Saturn conjunction in Sag and the Scorpio Mars. That’s endurance, self discipline and determination that comes into full bloom in maturity. (I have a Sun/Saturn square and Mars in Scorpio which was tough in the early years but much appreciated as I have got older.) Would love to know his ascendant.

  9. That Venus of his… I suspect he is a very late Capricorn Venus, rather than an Aquarius one. Would be part of why he shines in crisis (Anaretic Degree) would also explain a “dynastic” marriage to a Kennedy in his 30’s and then a partnership that never was officiated. My guess is this was because of his/his family’s deep Catholic faith. Italian Catholics didn’t really do divorce, even in the 1990’s. An Aquarius Venus probably wouldn’t care, but an Anaretic degree Capricorn Venus would.

  10. Many of us who live in New York would have loved to see him run against Trump. Because he’s so plain spoken, he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but he is a tremendously able leader. I, for one, regret Biden’s promise to put a woman on the ticket. It’s time and past time for that, but Cuomo would have been a formidable running mate, and he has always been strong on women’s issues. Thank you for writing about this.

  11. Thank you for this, Marjorie. I’ve been so impressed with the adult way Cuomo has been handling this crisis in his state. He is all over it–hasn’t missed a beat. This is the kind of responsible, grown-up person we need in the White House. (His father, Mario, was wonderful, too.). Trump is saying he wants people to go back to work by Easter, coronavirus and doctors’ warnings be damned. All he cares about is money and getting re-elected. In the end, I think Covid-19 could very well be his Waterloo. He’ll go down in flames if people die because of his obsession with the economy vs. the welfare of Americans.

    • He is single, apparently broke up with his long time partner last year. Was married to one of Bob Kennedy’s daughter in the 1990’s, too, in what looked like a Democratic Royal Marriage. But I guess “Mamma” could intervene, right?
