Alexei Navalny – driven by a vision

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was killed two years ago in a Siberian penal colony using a poison developed from a dart frog toxin, UK and European allies have said. There is no innocent explanation for the toxin, called epibatidine, being found in samples taken from Navalny’s body, the UK Foreign Office said.

He was Putin’s most prominent political opponent convicted this final time on what are described as trumped up charges. For many years he was a lawyer and an anti-corruption activist, with six million YouTube subscribers in 2021. He described Russia’s ruling party, United Russia, as a “party of crooks and thieves.” He was poisoned a few years ago by, it is thought, Russian security agents and went to Germany for treatment. He returned against advice and was imprisoned for breaking his parole, latterly in an Arctic penal colony nicknamed “Polar Wolf”, where the temperature can drop to minus 22C.

I have been puzzling over his motivations since his return meant almost certain death.

Born 4 June 1976 1.30 pm Moscow, Russia, he had a 9th house (legal affairs) Gemini Sun conjunct Venus opposition Neptune and trine Pluto – a communicator and supremely ambitious. His Mars in flamboyant Leo was in an uncompromising and risk-seeking square to Uranus and in an impulsive square to an 8th house Jupiter in Taurus and South Node.

He had one yod onto an apex Neptune from Sun Venus sextile Mars; and another wide yod onto his 8th house Jupiter South Node from Pluto sextile Neptune.

Neptune echoes throughout his chart – opposition his Sun, leading a yod, tied into Pluto and appearing in his midpoints especially his Neptune/Pluto midpoint. Not Neptune the timid, but Neptune the visionary, capable of ignoring physical danger and privation.  It evokes T.E.Lawrence’s memorable phrase about ‘the dreamers of the day’ being dangerous men – Lawrence was born with Neptune Pluto conjunct in Gemini.

An 8th house Jupiter would also be a motivator for Navalny, giving him a profound (if misplaced) sense of having the luck of the gods behind him. His Chiron in Taurus on the cusp of his 8th and even more so his Scorpio North Node in his 2nd point to an obsessive intensity. The Scorpio North Node and the 8th house can suggest the road to enlightenment or transformation comes through giving up everything and starting again. Though not usually in quite as dramatic or tragic a fashion as his circumstances. His Scorpio North Node was conjunct the Russia 1917 chart Sun – so he might well have seen his salvation lay through rescuing his motherland.

And he would be keen to leave his mark on history with a strong 17th harmonic which links Saturn to Mars, Neptune and Pluto indicating extreme hardship and brutality as his way through to immortality.

His 8th harmonic is also notable which gives bad luck but also ‘an abundance of strength and stubbornness in the face of difficulties.’ His sacrificial victim 12th harmonic is not marked except by Jupiter on the focal point of a yod which might suggest he did not see himself as a martyr, more a messenger with a mission.

Navalny also had the asteroid Nessus close to his midheaven which may also be significant in its positive role of pointing out conmen and alerting his countrymen to the dangers they were facing.

 An extraordinary man.

  1. I remember when he was poisoned and was in a German hospital. Surely he knew if he went back they would murder him.

I guess I don’t understand being a martyr because Putin is still I power. Nothing has changed.

  2. So much to consider in Navalny’s chart and life; what leads to the path of personal sacrifice and becoming a martyr.

His Leo Mars might fuel the individual passion, drive, and willingness to stand out as a leader/hero to others (in his 11th House and squaring his Nodes); by acting on his beliefs and creating a protest movement (sextile Taurus Jupiter; trine Sagittarius Neptune).

His Virgo Moon conjunct 12th cusp makes me think of a very personal interface between service and sacrifice; perhaps a special willingness to endure whatever he thinks might help correct/fix things for others.

Interesting that Nelson Mandela, another political prisoner and leader of a movement, also had an 11th House Mars and 12th House Moon.

  3. He was pretty good at putting that Nessus to work for him professionally too. I remember watching a documentary he made, I think in Germany, where, together with another member of nis organisation exposing corruption, he phoned the Russian secret service in Moscow and by pretending to be a superior got an operative to tell him now they had poisoned him with the novichok nerve agent. The operative in Moscow joked with him that the poison had been spread on his underpants in a hotel room. They got off the phone and wondered what would now happen to that operative who had spilled the beans that they had now recorded. Acting was how he got his information.
His documentaries were often long but well worth watching if you want to understand present-day Russia better. He is a great loss to tomorrow’s Russia and I personally think that Biden inadvertently hastened his end by trying to get him out of Russia as part of that big swap that happened not long after his death. Putin could not risk him becoming an external agigtator again. But the frog poison seems bizarre. How did they get it to Siberia and why not a repeat dose of the novichok which would certainly have done the same job. To me, it doesn’t add up. But no doubt more will emerge in due course.

    • The poison, based on that of the Ecuadorian frog, was synthetically produced in a Russian lab and then taken, in a syringe, to the prison in Siberia. Why would you try to kill him with a poison that has already been tried and failed?

      • Thanks for the explanation. I read that the poison could not be produced synthetically, hence my puzzlement. Novichok works just fine too but administering it is risky for those doing the deed. It worked perfectly on Kim Jong-nam in Kaula Lumpur airport.

  4. 8th house is not the death house as it is 12h though being scorpio ruled and pluto owned ..it does bring one close to death though it doesn’t happen but since uranus was transiting at time of his death -shock is possible.
Jupiter gives excessive confidence as repeatedly it saves but then it’s neputunian trap or limit of saving …8h usually provides invincibility delusion when jupiter rules it in legal matters yet it’s observed that finally such experts end up behind bars for long.

4 birthdate is of uranus and rebel so average to advice and prone to do what is asked not to be done, at any cost.

Ruled by north node or rahu in Hinduism which finally turns him to ashes in battle with sun – govt or ruler or king

  5. His Sun/Venus in Gemini is ruled by Mercury, which is also the ruler of his Ascendent Virgo. With his Mercury in Taurus which is ruled by Venus. He had the ability to reach many people. His eyes draws you in and he had an appeal with his looks too. I did a quick calculation for his Neptune/Venus midpoint in my head. It looks like it is in Juno in the 12th house – which is ruled by Neptune, with Virgo on the Ascendant accentuating his Mercurial planets. He may become immortalised in words in the future. He died on the 16th February 2024. His Chiron/Sun midpoint is on his Jupiter. Uranus was transiting his Lilith at that time of his death in his 8th house. Those who ordered his death and killed him, might have been hoping his death would not be determined? Dart Frogs don’t live Siberia – they like South America. Pluto – the Scorpion sting – ruler of the 8th house and politics is so apt. Power and the need to overcome others, for that power – is the real nemesis on this Earth.

  6. Thank you for reminding us of this hero! So tragic for Russia that he could have lived to help lead his country out of the dark of Putin!
