Pluto in Aquarius – marching towards the future

Pluto has been grinding its way through Capricorn since 2008, pulling down old structures, financial and political, and constructing new ones. Past experience might suggest we are overdue the justice and culture which flourished on previous Pluto in Capricorns (every 230/240 years). From 2024 to 2044 Pluto moves into Aquarius ushering in a new phase. Events during previous occurrences are naturally steeped in the history of their times, and since planets never move in isolation but are affected by the other outer planets, there are unlikely to be exact matches.

1778 -1797 saw a rebellious Pluto in Aquarius since it opposed Uranus. The USA was in its early struggles after the Independence Declaration of 1776; most notably the bloody French Revolution of 1793 dominated that period, having an effect outside of France. The Industrial Revolution was in full swing having got under way during Pluto in Capricorn with James Watts’ improved steam engine revolutionising production. As to be expected under Aquarius, science made strides forward as well, especially in chemistry. And William Herschel discovered the planet Uranus, which rules Aquarius. Explorers, another Aquarian strength, were also out and about with Captains James Cook and William Bligh leading the way to ‘new’ lands. It was a productive period for philosophical and social thinkers – Emmanuel Kant and Thomas Paine (Rights of Man); with cultural highpoints from Mozart and Scottish poet Robert Burns, who later established a global footprint.

1532 – 1552 was another Pluto in Aquarius opposition Uranus with Neptune in Aries. Henry V111, King of England and Wales, declared himself head of the Church in 1531 and was excommunicated in 1533 by the Pope. The RC versus Protestant schism got under way in earnest, which led to centuries of conflict.

1287 – 1307: Welsh Rebellion against the English. Edward 1 of England put John Balliol on Scottish throne with William Wallace rebellion following.

1041 – 1061: Saturn Pluto in Aquarius, Neptune in Aries opposition Uranus. Macbeth succeeds to throne of Scotland. Great schism between the Western RC church and Eastern Orthodox churches. In the aftermath came the Norman Conquest of England (Battle of Hastings 1066.)

796 – 816: Pluto square Uranus, trine Neptune Saturn in Libra. Charlemagne becomes Holy Roman Emperor in 800. He unites most of Western Europe, laying the foundations for modern France and Germany. He dies just as Pluto is about to exit Aquarius.

551 – 572: Pluto in Aquarius, Uranus in Sagittarius, Neptune in Aries. Mohammed is born.

So world-changing events during Pluto in Aquarius.

This next time round tr Pluto in Aquarius will march in time to Neptune in Aries (2025 to 2038) and initially to Uranus in Gemini (2025 to 2033) – so early on there’ll be a Uranus trine Pluto sextile Neptune after the mid 2020s – innovative and creative. Of the earlier historical happenings which might repeat, we can expect more advances in science and exploration (outer space/bottom of the sea/under Arctic ice?). For the rest – the US and France will have come full circle back to their first Pluto Return or the immediate aftermath, so significant shifts/adjustments, epochal events in both countries. Sometimes empires that rise on one Pluto cycle, fall on the next.

An add on from Hugh Fowler who commented below the previous August post (summarised): The Roman province of Britain was created by an invasion in 43 CE when Pluto was in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces; and was completed by 61 CE, when Pluto ingressed into Aquarius and Neptune into Aries. This transition does seem to echo down the centuries for the inhabitants of Britain. If the past is anything to go by Pluto moving into Aquarius and Neptune into Aries in the mid 2020s signals some sort of transformation of English identity and its relation to the world if the 1530s is anything to go by since that is the last time it happened. Moreover it all be generated internally (ie the English nation will do it to themselves for good or ill).

  1. Thank you for your freely proffered prognostications Marjorie, very much appreciated and fascinating reading despite the fact that my level of understanding of the skies does not permit me to follow all the astrological nuances that you so ably tease out. Re 1778 -1797, Mary Wollstonecraft wrote “A Vindication for the Rights of Women in 1792”, and just a note about Uranus – Caroline Herschel has also been credited with making all the detailed observations enabling its discovery, if not noticing its existence first before mentioning it to her brother !

  2. I shared the info because it also shows that education and healthcare will be a good place to find and keep employment.

Automation, no matter where it is “employed”, will decrease the need for human employment. Financial advisors are being replaced by algorithm programs, McDonalds is going to use robotic hamburger makers, and as I was typing this, the news said our local Whole Foods is getting rid of check-outs—just gather what you need and walk out—your Amazon account will be charged for the goods.

Aquarius is known for bringing inovation to fruition. Pluto gives favors with one hand and takes something away with the other. I hope you and your children prosper by having a heads-up when you use astrology.

  3. Marjorie: So true what you say about hard-copy books, etc. A friend of mine, who is manager of subscription sales at the city newspaper, says it’s amazing how many people still want the actual newspaper delivered to their door, as opposed to reading the online version. Digital subscriptions remain stagnant while newspaper delivery is up.

    • Julie, local papers are actually doing well for advertising sales too, in many countries. It’s part of a bigger trend of marketing becoming more segmeted. Local papers are still the best tool for people to learn about local promotions – apps and such can do it too, but honestly, even I don’t care about having 52 apps on my phone all sending me notifications, and I’ve work with digital(izing) services for the past decade.

  4. The price of Aquarian innovation? Here is a heads up on what percentage of jobs will not exist in 20 years (Pluto will be in the last decan of Aquarius):
manufacturing, 23% less jobs; Finance 22% less jobs; mining -22%, utilities -21%, transportation -20%, retail -20%, communications -19%, agriculture -19%, water supply -17%, construction -16%, admin and support -16%, government -14%, arts and recreation -14%, food services -13%, education -12%, healthcare -10%.

US population will grow by 50 million or more in the next 20 years. The UK by 8 million or more.

    • your figures are a little too optimistic, a few of the big banks in the country I am working in now, have already announced that more than 80% of the jobs will be automated by the end of the year, saving them a lot of money…and putting so many people out of work. They wanted to achieve this by last December, but thankfully didn’t.

It is hard to ignore, less and less jobs, more new graduates every year around the world, and rising costs of everything, as more is demanded and less is supplied…and no wonder why many want to build a spaceship and escape Earth…

    • I’m a little wary of apocalyptic predictions. Remember the paperless society that was going to come? Hah. I’m drowning in as much of the stuff as I ever was.
Cinemas will become extinct as home DVDs are invented; not obvious.
Hard-copy books will disappear with the advent of kindle and ebooks. Nope, sales are on the rise again for good old-fashioned, hold-in-your-hand and turn-a-real-page paperbacks and hard covers.
Musicians and singers were hard hit by streaming so see-them-in-the-flesh tours bounced back and the business adapted.
The internet has changed life out of all recognition but certain human needs can’t and won’t change.
More automation may lead to a rise in unemployment but it could also lead to new opportunities and enforce new mindsets for filling unpaid leisure time. No idea what but someone will come up with a solution.

      • I recall a lecture in grade school that fusion/nuclear power would be affordable and easily available by 1967. No more coal and fossil fuels!

21st Centurey: Here we are on the Wild Side…with President Golf touting coal as the savior of America. I didn’t see any lumps of coal in my Xmas stocking this year…

        • You’re right of course. At primary school in the 80’s I remember a class discussion about nuclear shelters, as well as lot’s of talk about people dying of AIDS and the creepy tombstone ad that seemed to always be on TV.

By the end we were told we may well all get Mad Cow disease before the millennium is out, because the school dinners were absolutely riddled with it. A cheery Pluto in Scorpio send off

          • Really…mad cow? Fallout shelters were vogue in the 1950’s and certainly quite popular in the early 60’s. In grade school, we had the Duck and Cover drills. Monday morning at 11AM, the attack sirens wailed in erspect for the ending of WW1…but then some bright boy figured the Russkies could use that as cover for an actual attack. Wails, no more.

      • With all this AI and fear of jobs being replaced by robots and whatnot, could Pluto in Aquarius hint at what Elon Musk wants; a universal basic income being put into place in our expanding societies? It’s worked in every pilot scheme all over the globe over the past few decades but to actually implement it in each country? Astrologically, could this be the right time and a solution to a majority of people being replaced by robots/AI?

    • I wouldn’t be all apocalyptic either. The fact Seola mentioned before – resources running out – will affect the speed of change as well. For instance, running AI demands tremendous amount of energy. You may have read about Blockchain energy problem. Minining bitcoin is incredibly energy consuming compared to traditional banking (also energy consuming). So, I’d say that despite robots coming, they will have running costs seriously limiting their distribution in many fields.

Also, one should not undervaluate social innovation aspect of Pluto in Aquarius. Frederick The Great’s Governmental model really took hold in many parts of Europe leading to Napoleonic Wars. I wasn’t able to find out when Frederick first introduced a pension to administrative figures – I think it might have been during Pluto in Capricorn, since he died only a few years to Pluto in Aquarius.. But the fact is, this was the first time such an idea was approached, and it had a profound social meaning.

  5. What ideas do you have in regards to the transformation of English identity, Marjorie? I would read into that as perhaps a reaction to post-Brexit. As mentioned in one of your earlier posts we could either be a trailblazer or fall flat on our faces. If May is still in charge (which I very much doubt) we can guarantee a catastrophic failure.

  6. Fascinating Article (as usual Marjorie!)
I’m pretty sure you wrote about Uranus in Taurus and then Gemini.
What about and have you written about Saturn/Neptune Conjunction in Aries in the mid-2020s?
    Wishing you a good evening!
    Henry

  7. Very interesting! Thank you for writing it. The timing of Pluto’s shift into Aquarius is coinciding with when many individuals and companies are promising to put a human on Mars and so opening up the gates (or floodgates) to space travel.

We have reached unsustainable numbers when comparing the human population to resources…which is almost the same reason countries invaded other countries in the previous transits.

Now that we learn a little from history, it is clear that science not automation is where the solution to all this may lay…
