Roy Moore – deranged theocrat selected by GOP voters *updated

Reactions from disbelief to outrage greeted Roy Moore’s win at the Republican primary for Jess Sessions’ Senate seat in Alabama. Described as ‘a deranged theocrat’, he is virulently anti-gay, fanatically anti-Muslim, was a leading voice in the anti-Obama birther movement; and has waged a long battle to blend church and state – ‘returning the US to its Christian roots.’ He was booted out of a previous job as state chief justice when he refused to remove a granite monument of the 10 commandments in the middle of the court building. And he’s much beloved by Steve Bannon, nuff said.

Born 11 February 1947, he is a Sun in Aquarius square Jupiter in Scorpio; with an Air Grand Trine of Mars also in Aquarius trine Uranus in Gemini trine Neptune, formed into a Kite with a fearsomely angry and over-forceful Mars opposition Pluto. Ideological zealots often have heavily Air charts, with Aquarius having an unfortunate leaning (amongst some) towards fascism. Bile-filled haters, including right-wing shock-jocks and others, frequently have the brutal and ruthless Mars opposition Pluto, which prompts them to tramp the object of their dislike underfoot with violent intent.

His intense and vengeful Scorpio Moon possibly square Saturn Pluto and Mars – his home life must be something to behold.

His wife appears to hold trenchant ‘Christian’ beliefs; one son has been consistently in trouble with the law for drug, DUI and domestic violence complaints.

He is up against Democrat lawyer/politician Doug Jones, 4 May 1954, for the December 12th election to fill Jeff Sessions’ seat. Jones is a steady Sun Mercury in Taurus trine Mars in Capricorn, with Venus Moon and Jupiter in Gemini. He’s trailing Moore in the polls at the moment by 5% and will hit a dip through November when tr Saturn opposes his Jupiter. But he’ll be on a lucky roll come December with tr Uranus square his Jupiter/Pluto midpoint; and his life is due for a radical change come 2018. So he could be in with a chance. Moore’s chart (without birth time) isn’t showing much of anything, apart from a run of losses from after mid December onwards through 2018.

  1. According to the Magi Society rules, Roy Moore will be under a cinderella transit during the election of Nov. 12, while Doug Jones doesn’t, so Moore is set to win. Moore has transiting Jupiter parallel to his natal Chiron, and transiting Chiron trine his natal Jupiter. That’s two cinderella aspects, so it looks like he’ll win. Donald Trump had transiting Jupiter conjunct his natal Chiron during the presidential election (a cinderella aspect), and he won.

  2. Marjorie: The special election when Judge Moore will be against Democrat Doug Jones will be held Dec 12 this year. What do aspects look like for him at that time?

  3. As an AL resident, I have a few opinions on this topic. There is much about AL that is wonderful and worthy of admiration. The state is home to a significant tech sector that includes men and women from many countries, races, and religions. Yes, but they voted for Roy Moore, you say? Not everyone voted for him. And Roy Moore is a wingnut, even by AL standards. Unfortunately, his only real competition was Luther Strange, who was tainted by accepting a temporary Senate seat from Governor Bently, who was embroiled in a sex scandal that Luther Strange was supposed to be investigating. There is so much more to all of this than can be written here, but I think (or I hope) AL in general is in process of some much-needed ideological changes. While I do think there is serious risk that Roy Moore might win the Senate seat vacated by fellow wingnut, Jeff Sessions, Moore’s Democratic opponent–Doug Jones–appears to be a man of integrity. I’d love to see a read of Doug Jones’ chart, if that’s possible. Do the stars favor him in any way over Roy Moore?

    • I’d say the very first American I learnt to know was from Alabama, since one of the girls I shared a room with at an international summer camp was from Montgomery. There other kids from there, as well, so I learned something of the culture. It was more than 20 years ago, but I still remember how the guys told there were essentially two “good” private high schools in town. The organization arranging the camp – non political, non religious, but traditionally leaning Democrat and accepting Catholics when many others didn’t – had arranged some kind of a essay writing contest they’d wan for a round trip. So, they were probably some of the brighter kids. Yet, I could see how the party culture culture was in Alabama – we were in a country with no enforced limit for drinking, and although alcohol was forbidden at camp, we’d be served wine at some finer dinners and they always found a bar when “in town”. And these were Southern Babtist and Catholic kids going to church every Sunday, sometimes terribly hungover as they’d admit themselves. I also remember one of the boys, a more rebellious one listening and playing blues since he was a big classic rock fan (this was in grunge years), telling that they essentially had two African American students at a school that hadn’t been segregated nominally in 30 years by then, and he wasn’t proud of it. So, I think I got a climpse of contradictions of South then. And I’m fairly certain that in case the people I met haven’t moved out of the state, they didn’t vote for Moore, either. Had more sense than that at 17 or 18.

  4. Unintended consequences from the Trump effect? We’re talking about the Deep South, where they still wage the civil war, albeit thru the polls and the pulpit. My god.

  5. The Handmaids Tale just moves that little closer to becoming a reality, doesn’t it? Frightening that this is taking place in the here and now.
