The wondrous Cillian Murphy is back as the war-damaged gypsy gangster Tommy Shelby in a one-off film The Immortal Man bringing the six series of TV Peaky Blinders into World War 11. Nearly 50, he says he has been playing the role for a quarter of his life. Lauded also for his Oscar-winning role as the lead in Oppenheimer (2023) and reputedly the best thing in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk (2017), he has had a quality career.
Born 25 May 1976 in Cork, Ireland, with no birth time, the son of teachers, he wanted first to be a musician but turned to acting with notable results both on stage and on screen. Not only is he talented but his looks are striking which makes me wonder whether he has Neptune on a Sagittarius Ascendant. A reviewer writes: “When he smiles his blue eyes seem to ignite.” “Murphy is the iceberg of actors — you have no idea how deep he goes.”
Neptune on the Ascendant can go along with mesmerisingly good looks and a sense of mystery.
He is also described as “internal and wired”. “He has played men who, like himself, seem made up of hinterland.” Which would fit with Saturn in Cancer conjunct Mars in Leo in his 8th.
He gave up meat at one point since he was wary of mad cow disease which could come from a health-conscious 6th house Sun, Venus and Mercury. Much of his activism is focused on children’s charities and campaigns – Jupiter in his creative and child-friendly 5th house.
All special pleading and I am usually wrong but he does look like a Neptune Ascendant.
When Peaky Blinders hit the screens in 2013 his Solar Arc Pluto weas opposition his Jupiter for luck and a confidence boost. With his Solar Arc Uranus conjunct his Ascendant for a shake-up of his image; and tr Uranus was opposition his Pluto. A turnaround in his life.
The Peaky Blinders chart certainly illustrates the violent content of the drama with Mars in flamboyant Leo square Saturn, trine Uranus and inconjunct Pluto. There is a yod with apex Neptune hinting at the Nick Cave music soundtrack which was an integral part of the mood setting in soot-drenched Birmingham. And a marked Uranus Pluto Grand Cross involving Jupiter as it straddled the troubled period between World War 1 and on with social unrest and striving for wealth and status.
Although Cillian Murphy insists he is nothing like Tommy Shelby – and seems to live a quiet family life – his chart does have echoes of the Peaky Blinder ethos – Mars in Leo conjunct Saturn, sextile Pluto square Uranus and square Jupiter.

Aquarians’ eyes also have something special about them.
I often thought Cillian would have
been perfectly cast as Sinatra, if
the opportunity for the mooted
Scorsese biopic was to ever take
place.
He is also a very fine DJ, judging
from his occasional forays on
Radio 6.
