Dick Cheney, a dominant figure in US politics, Secretary of Defence under George H Bush and VP under George W Bush from 2001 to 2009, has died. He was a key architect of the “war on terror” after 9/11 and an early advocate of the disastrous invasion of Iraq in 2003. He later became a bitter critic of the Republican Party under Trump and was a long-standing advocate of Nato expansion into Eastern Europe, backing Ukraine’s bid in 2008.
Born 30 January 1941 7.30 pm Lincoln, Nebraska, he had a hard-working 6th house Aquarius Sun opposition Pluto square Jupiter Saturn in Taurus. He would be enduring with so many Fixed planets, stubborn, controlling – with, arguably, Jupiter Saturn’s tendency to fly high and then come crashing down. He also had an Earth Grand trine of Uranus in the international 9th trine Neptune trine a 5th house Venus in Capricorn – security based, a good organizer, a builder in life, tending to lack imagination. Plus an unaspected 4th house Mars = uncompromising, in constant activity, unrestrained. And a 7th house Pisces Moon opposition Neptune and sextile Uranus which hints at softer emotional side which sits at odds with his determined earthy temperament.
His relationship chart with George W Bush had a gung-ho, impulsive composite Sun opposition Mars square Jupiter which sent them into an ill-advised attack on Iraq; with tr Jupiter conjunct the composite Pluto when it occurred as well, also egging them on to an overly-confident push..
Cheney’s relationship with Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defence over Iraq, who died in 2021, also had hints of over-enthusiasm from composite Sun, Jupiter, Pluto; overlaid with aggravation and bad luck from Mars Saturn.
Given that Iraq did more to damage the USA’s standing than any other recent event, Cheney’s relationship chart with the USA with a Sun opposition Pluto square Saturn makes sense of a war which did not bring praise and plaudits.
Two years earlier at 9/11 tr Pluto was hovering around the conjunction to his 4th house Mars, producing fear and a profound shock; with the Solar Arc Sun square his Pluto; and tr Neptune moving to square his Jupiter Saturn in the aftermath. By the Iraq Attack in March 2003 his Solar Arc Saturn was nearly conjunct his Pluto; with his Solar Arc Sun squaring his Jupiter Saturn in the calamitous aftermath. And undermining tr Neptune conjunct his Sun was in place by the autumn 2003. Tr Uranus was also opposition his SA Midheaven as well. As astrological pileup.
He fell out with GW Bush in the time that followed though stayed in place till 2009.
Cheney’s chart relocated to Iraq puts Mars in the hidden 12th, Pluto in the trapped 8th and his Jupiter Saturn in the 4th. There is also a yod of Mars sextile Midheaven inconjunct a 5th house emotionally-excitable Uranus. Uranus on the focal point of a yod suggests a connection that was a catalyst for extreme change on the part of both – as Iraq descended into chaos and Cheney’s reputation took a hit from which it never recovered.

Thanks for this post, Marjorie. I think it deserves more attention than it’s getting because Cheney was so powerful an administrator and so intimately joined to the US natal chart. The only thing missing is he has no degree link to the US presidential Sun at 13 Cancer and Saturn at 14 Libra.
Otherwise, he might have made it for being next in line and certainly he was more of a realist than GW. Along with the Pluto/Saturn/Sun T-square in his birth chart, his Saturn is at 8 Taurus, linking to the US natal chart with Uranus at 8 Gemini. Though the signs are next to eachother, rather than in classic aspect, which indicates they don’t actually “see” one another clearly. They are linked, but not effectively.
Cheney’s Midheaven at 27 Taurus (near Algol) was trine US Pluto at 27 Capricorn and his Neptune at 27 Virgo was also trine US Pluto, hence a grand trine between them. His Mars at 17 Sag opposed US Sag at 21 Gemini. His Mercury was conjunct US Moon (give or take, depending on the chart) and inconjunct US Mercury at 24 Cancer Rx. His Moon at 22 Pisces and Uranus at 22 Taurus were opposed and trine US Neptune at 22 Virgo. His 22 degree Uranus in Taurus was also conjunct his 27 Taurus MC, which together trined US Neptune.
Plenty of juice there and a tight fit to the country’s zeitgeist at the time, but never popular.
His Mercury, while conjunct US Moon, was inconjunct US Mercury (news) and his Venus was inconjunct US Mars in Gemini (news again). It wasn’t likely he would ever become president (imo), but his influence must have been enormous at its height.
When GW was sitting with the students on 911, Cheney was likely already in high gear to deal with the crisis. He may actually have been a check on G.W., but the full story has not been written. Possibly, he may have prevented as much damage as he created (with the emphasis on fixed signs which usually shows concern with consequences), but he won’t be getting credit any time soon.
And undoubtedly, whatever the justification, his actions led to Abu Graib. His reputation will never recover from the abuses and torture he and the administration sanctioned then, even if history, in time, allows full disclosure of classified information that partly exonerates them. Perhaps that is the stain of the close Midheaven to Algol?
One of the interesting aspects in Dick Cheney’s birth chart is Pluto, he had Pluto opposition his MC in the mid 1990’s. It propelled him to power. Some analysts says he was the most powerful Deputy President. When Pluto is opposite Midheaven and crossing IC, it is normally a time of career transformation and rise to power. Currently Pluto was transiting his 6th house of health, when he died, suggesting serious health issues, same like the current President Trump who also has it in his 6th house now, he is on a health decline, as well as politically. Sadly Dick Cheney did not live to see his daughter rising to power too, Liz Cheney has a great future ahead though she is still on a low profile for now and a couple of years. Saturn is still in her first quadrant. But she has inherited a lot from her dad.
