“Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” T.E. Lawrence.
With revolution in the air, a look at the charts of leaders who led the charge.
Maximilien Robespierre was the flag bearer for the French Revolution, though he only lasted two years after the storming of the Bastille to face death by guillotine as he had condemned the aristocracy before him in the “Reign of Terror”. The revolutionary years did not last long with Napoleon Bonaparte taking over just after the turn of the century. Robespierre born 6 May 1758 2am Arras France, had a super-charged Jupiter Pluto in his 10th square a rebellious Uranus in his 1st. His Taurus Sun was square a publicity-attracting Mars Neptune. Confident and aggressive.
Vladimir Lenin, 22 April 1870 9.42 pm Simbirsk, Russia, at the front of the Bolshevik Revolution which brought down the Czar was another Sun Taurus with a wide Jupiter Pluto conjunction. His Neptune conjunct Mars in Aries was in a volatile, can-be fanatical square to Uranus.
George Washington who led the army in the Revolutionary War against the UK, 22 February 1732 10am Wakefield Corner, VA, was a Sun Pisces square an uncompromising Uranus; with a confident Jupiter Pluto conjunction; and an inspired though can-be-fanatical Uranus opposition Neptune. His determined Mars in Scorpio was unaspected.
Che Guevara, the poster boy for revolutionaries, an Argentine Marxist incensed by the USA’s capitalist exploitation of Latin America, became involved in insurrections in Guatemala and was a major figure of the Cuban Revolution. He was ultimately captured in Bolivia and executed.
Born 14 May 1928 3.05 am Rosario, Argentina, he was another Sun Taurus in his case with his Sun square an idealistic Neptune; with a rebellious Uranus in Aries on his Ascendant square Pluto. His Pluto was also in a confident wide square to Jupiter and inconjunct Saturn. His Mars in Pisces was inconjunct Neptune. A Uranian temperament but not especially aggressive. His Neptune and Mars in Pisces caught the public imagination.
Alexandros Panagoulis, a Greek politician and poet, took an active role in the fight against the Regime of the Colonels (1967–1974) in Greece and was renowned for his attempt to assassinate dictator Georgios Papadopoulos. He was captured, tortured but ultimately freed and after the restoration of democracy was elected to the Greek parliament. Born 2 July 1939, nr Athens, Greece, he was a Sun Cancer with a formidably determined (and tormented) Mars in Aquarius opposition Pluto square Saturn in final degree Aries. His Jupiter was in a confident trine to Pluto; and his 8th house Uranus was in a creative trine to Neptune.
Lech Walesa, 29 September 1945 3.30 am Popowo, Poland, led the Solidarity movement and a successful pro-democratic effort, which eventually ended Communist rule. An idealistic Sun, Neptune, Jupiter in Libra square Mars Moon in Cancer, he had an all-systems-change Uranus in his career 10th.
Nelson Mandela, 18 July 1918 2.54pm Umtata, South Africa, the figurehead for the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, was a Sun Cancer with a confident Jupiter Pluto conjunction in Cancer square Mars. His rebellious Uranus was square a Scorpio Moon and inconjunct his Sun.
There is less marked Uranus than I might have expected, some but not an overdose. Plenty of Jupiter Pluto which helps in the drive for power or to tilt against misuse of power in authorities. Some aggressive, others less so. Neptune figures largely driving the vision of a different society. The long term effect of revolutions – especially in France and Russia, even South Africa – is not altogether encouraging.
Add On: Michael Collins, revolutionary leader in Ireland’s struggle for independence, 16 October 1890 2.30am Clonakilty, was a Sun Uranus in Libra with a confident Jupiter in Aquarius trine Pluto Neptune in Gemini.
Mahatma Gandhi, 2 October 1869 7.08 am Porbandar, India, led the non violent resistance which led to India’s independence from the British. Another Sun Libra he had a confident Jupiter Pluto in Taurus opposition Mars Venus in Scorpio square a Leo Moon; with Uranus conjunct his Midheaven square Neptune.
Simon Bolivar born 24 July 1783. Sun at 1 Leo. Pluto at 7 Aquarius. Uranus at 9 Cancer conjunct Mercury at 11 Cancer opposite Saturn at 7 Capricorn and square Mars at 6 Aries and Neptune at 7 Libra. Led Venezuela, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Bolivian to independence. Even found time to live in London close to what later became Lords Cricket ground.
Leon Trotsky born 7 November 1879
Sun at 15 Scorpio. Uranus at 8 Virgo trine Neptune at 10 Taurus and inconjunct Saturn at 9 Aries. Jupiter at 2 Pisces. A brutal Pluto retrograde at 26 Taurus and retrograde Mars in detriment at 21 Taurus square Moon at 22 Leo.
Pluto, Jupiter and Uranus figures strongly in the above charts. Jupiter leaders, whether religious, law makers or Politicians. Uranus the planet of opposites, as it rotates , along with Venus in an opposite way to the others. Which are in conjunction in my chart – I have never really conformed. Pluto is the little planet with a huge kick, which moves mountains. Like Volcanoes they simmer and then erupt. Revolutions happen because leaders or rulers become stale. Stuck in a rut. We always have had disrupters in any country, however, it is when intransigence takes hold, they become more attractive. As the populace ( many in society) have been ignored and have been left with no choice. Like the petition in Britain? It doesn’t really matter who instigated it. Millions signed it, as they feel ignored! Pluto is now in Aquarius until the Spring of 2043. Perhaps this is the beginning of change and the start of the Uranian era?
This is a fascinating piece Marjorie. Thank you.
I looked up James, Duke of Monmouth who led the Monmouth Rebellion. He’s an Aries and has that disruptive Uranus/Neptune conjunction in Sagittarius on his South Node opposition a Pluto, Saturn North Node stellium in Gemini. The opposition between outer planets Uranus/Neptune and Pluto/Saturn, lying as it did across the nodal axis was the marker for the interregnum period in England, the culmination of the aims of the civil war as well as the witch hunts of the period. Born just a couple of months after the execution of his Grandfather Charles I, he has Jupiter in Libra trine that Pluto, Saturn, NN. As we know, the Monmouth Rebellion ended disastrously with Monmouth’s botched execution.
My Father of Nation Gandhi.
as far as I learned, 22 degree is must for forever fame and somewhere I find that Saturn ,keeps its forever when interspersed with Jupiter Pluto aspect…it milds the uranian restlessness and hence like embers keeps the fire burning for long and bring a change which cannot b reversed
Thanks for adding Gandhi
From Marjorie’s past posts, add this man, with her notes. “Michael Collins, lionized for his part in Ireland’s struggle for independence, as a revolutionary leader, soldier and politician, was assassinated at the tragically young age of 31 a century ago on August 22. He fought in the Easter Rising in 1916 and negotiated the Anglo-Irish Treaty in 1921 after the Civil War ended, in which he had been Irish commander in chief. It would establish the Irish Free State but depended on an oath of allegiance to the British Crown. He viewed the treaty as offering “the freedom to achieve freedom”. Months later he was killed in an ambush by anti-treaty forces, though there is a good deal of speculation about the whos and whys.
He was born 16 October 1890 at 2.30 am Clonakilty, Ireland, when his father, a farmer and amateur mathematician was 75. He had a strongly Air chart, often the sign of a crusader and passionate believer in a cause. His Sun was in Libra conjunct rebellious Uranus.
He did leave an enduring legacy so no surprises that his historical-footprint 17th Harmonic was strong as was his global-presence 22H.
I am in sustained awe of your astrological knowledge and skill in its application. Your site ( and it’s great community) is a great resource in these confusing times.
Joe, Many thanks. Most kind and appreciated.
Here here. Couldn’t agree more.
We will soon be entering the age of Aquarious. As a baby boomer I participated in many protests and a lot of us did not fall into the convential roles of our parents or believe in or trust in the powers that be. A lot of our generation died in the Vietnam war as well as refuted the the rational for the Iraq war which unfortuantely causedd a lot of grief and pain.
I would not be surprised if the Milenials. generations X,Y. Z and even Alphas will experience the rapid expansion of AI, women will become more powerful and play a bigger role in government and society, there will be major disdain for wars, the goverment and corporate authority as well as become disillusioned with our new president much quicker than expected even if they voted for Trump plus the conservative and religious movements in general.
Who ever thought the Aquarian Age would also be a new Dark Age? I am not optimistic at this time. On January 20, all three major powers will be dictatorships, just as Orwell predicted in 1984. I don’t even think the US will be the first to revert to democracy. That would be Russia in my view when the Saturn-Neptune conjunction is completed. I also think Trump may live to see his Uranus return while still in power. Elections? Meh.
Marjorie points out that Neptune figures heavily. Religious dictators? Or the second coming? The Bible predicted a second coming. Many have become disillusioned with materialism, ruining the planet etc? Or just another massive upheaval – like the great flood? Or the stark realisation we are not completely in control! As if the planets do have an influence, then we are not!
My fear is that women who imitate men by being loud and dressing as men or LGBTQ r seemingly becoming powerful while the ordinary typical womenhood who manage the kitchen and are quiet and subtle ,will again be ignored and it seems forced to behave loud and dressing like men to survive.
As The Good Fight has a line,”what happened to the demure kind?”..we have certainly lost lot of women qualities which were endearing and tragically replaced them by men qualities which are upfront ..in name of feminism which ironically has made women more men like than men as men with sensitivity r considered now LGBTQ brutally or sissy or not men
Very nice summary, Marjorie. Many thanks!
