2028 – a year to ponder

The year 2028 is causing a few flutters of concern with challenging influences coming together though this happens every so often and does not mean the end of times.

By mid 2028 Saturn is edging its way into Taurus to square Pluto – Saturn Pluto is associated with hardship and deprivation, often war. The recent conjunction oversaw the pandemic. WW11 started with Saturn in Taurus square Pluto in Leo. WW1 started on Pluto in Cancer with Saturn in late Gemini approaching the conjunction.  It does have ominous overtones but the Falkland War started on a Saturn Pluto conjunction which was UK v Argentina so does not necessarily pull in multiple players.

The January 2028 Solar Eclipse has an Aquarius New Moon conjunct Pluto trine Uranus; with Mars in Aquarius having moved on from the conjunction to Pluto in the Lunar Eclipse two weeks earlier.  Mars Pluto is usually associated with ruthlessness and violence – was there for the Ukraine Invasion and various Gaza wars as well.

Charts with concentration of Fixed planets around this mark – are the UK with its 8th house Mars; the EU with its Taurus Moon and Uranus in Leo; and the Maastricht Treaty with its Scorpio Sun. All will feel the effects.

China hay be late to the party’ with a marginally later degree Saturn in Taurus.

The USA chart is on a Uranus Return as it was for the start of the US Civil War though it has had another Uranus Return in 1945.

What may also be significant are the Lunar Eclipses of 2028 at 21 Cancer and 15 Capricorn which will trigger the UK 10th house Cancer Moon and the July one the USA Sun – eclipses are challenges to change. So it will not be a year to stand still.

[Andre I would be grateful if you did not go off on one of your apocalyptic musings – it’ll be tough but that does not mean the world blows up.]

  1. Just looked at Labour’s 1900 Astrological Chart. Their Saturn/Sun midpoint falls circa 6 degrees of Aquarius as well! How will this work out?

    • The Labour Party 1906 Grand Cross has moved by Solar Arc to fixed signs. By 2028 Neptune will be at 8 Scorpio,Uranus at 7 Taurus, Mars at 6 Leo and the Moon at 4 Aquarius. Each Solar Arc planet will be trine its natal position. In addition SA Uranus will sextile natal Neptune, SA Mars will sextile the natal Moon, SA Neptune will sextile the natal Uranus and the SA Moon will sextile the natal Mars.

Transiting Pluto, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Mars aspects will triggering all points of the Labour 1906 Grand Cross at the same time either directly by hitting the natal positions or indirectly via the SA placements.

The chart also gets activated by the Solar Eclipse in Leo on 2 August 2027 and by the Solar Eclipse in Aquarius on 26 January 2028.

  2. AndyB: Wow and double ouch. The astro prospects for 2027-28 look nightmarish. In 2028, Saturn will be lumbering through my 4th house but at the same time Jupiter will be waltzing through my 8th. I know this is a generalization, but I have to assume that 8th house Jupiter transit will provide some relief for an otherwise bleak astro landscape–if only for 12 months. Preparing for the worst and hoping for a generous dose of Jupiterian luck–however short-lived.

  3. 2028 is going to be a difficult year, but the crisis that defines the Saturn square Pluto placement that year will be set in motion by events in the years leading up to it. The Saturn/Neptune conjunction that we’re going through today is dissolving the old order and what is going to emerge will develop over the next 10 years.

2026 is going to be defined by a fire-air mystic rectangle forming in the outer planets, whose influence will likely extend through 2027. Next July, Jupiter in Leo will oppose Pluto in Aquarius, with Uranus in Gemini sextiling Jupiter and trining Pluto. Saturn and Neptune in Aries will trine Jupiter and sextile Uranus and Pluto. I think that there will be a major technological breakthrough next year in information technology or computer chips and transistors that takes AI to the next level. Maybe not AGI, but it will certainly set the stage for it. Uranus stationing direct at 27 degrees Taurus at the beginning of next year is the classic “eureka in the laboratory” moment for a new material or fabrication technique (photonic chips, 2-nm or sub-1-nm nodes, room-temperature superconductors, carbon-based or graphene transistors, etc.). By mid-year this technology will get scaled and start being delivered in limited amounts. What emerges will sweep the old world into the dust bin. Interests that don’t accept it will be broken down. That will set the stage for the “creative destruction” crisis that develops over the subsequent years.

Events will move along on this trajectory until the end of May in 2027, when a tight mutable t-square forms. The Sun in Gemini will conjoin Uranus, with Mars in Virgo squaring this and the Moon in Pisces opposing Mars and squaring both the Sun and Uranus. This combination suggests a sudden, shocking event that creates an emotional panic situation. With Mars in Virgo involved, it’ll likely trigger a breakdown in daily systems or supply chains. We saw a very similar geometric pattern on 9/11 and right before the collapse of Lehman in 2008. Since Uranus will already be very close to its return degree in the U.S. chart, this event will likely be the detonator that sets off a cycle of destruction. Historically this transit has brought about massive changes to the country’s identity and place in the world. We saw it during the onset of the Civil War and World War 2. So what will occur here will be violent shock to the global economy.

Later that summer, we will see Solar eclipse in Leo, conjoining Venus and opposing Pluto and the North Node in Aquarius. Eclipses that fall this close to the Venus–Pluto midpoint and the nodal axis almost always coincide with major shocks to the global monetary system or any speculative assets. Tech and crypto will be especially hard hit here. This is going to be the moment when the crisis that was triggered in May–June shifts from “systems/information shock” (mutable) into “fixed-asset and monetary destruction” (Leo–Aquarius axis and Venus–Pluto).

In short, 2027 is the closest astrological equivalent we get in this century to 1939–1941 or 1860–1861, only this time the conflict will be fought with information weapons, digital money, and supply-chain warfare instead of tanks and muskets. There’s literally no historical precedent for this many regime-change signatures landing inside 12–14 months on a single national chart that also happens to be the reserve-currency issuer. Most people alive today have never felt a year with this much concentrated archetypal pressure, and most won’t fully understand what happened until years later.

By the time we get to 2028, Saturn in Taurus will be squaring Pluto in Aquarius, and that’s when it will manifest in a debt/deflationary crisis. Historically Saturn in that sign has brought about low interest rates and very sharp recessions. Real estate, commodities, and crypto will likely bottom out in value here. Saturn in Taurus wants to conserve and harden value; Pluto in Aquarius wants to destroy and redistribute ownership through technology and collective structures. Think 2008–09 but more ideological and tech-driven, with crypto regulation, CBDCs, tokenization, nationalization or forced redistribution of assets taking center stage. The Saturn station direct at 6 degrees Taurus on November 2028 (exact square to Pluto) is the single most likely capitulation day of the entire cycle. It’s the moment when the market finally says “nothing works any more” and the old financial order is visibly dead. But it doesn’t end there.

By the end of 2029, Jupiter in Scorpio will oppose Saturn in Taurus. This will signal a massive tug-of-war between attempts to stimulate credit markets and brutal austerity/repossession. This is the capitulation phase where central banks throw everything at the wall (Jupiter in Scorpio suggests extreme monetary policy) but tangible assets and collateral keep collapsing (Saturn in Taurus). Expect sovereign debt scares, pension system failures, and forced wealth taxes in several countries. Then from 2030-32, we see a new order emerging. Saturn will enter Gemini and conjoin Uranus in 2031-32. By that point, supply-chain fragmentation becomes permanent, with local/regional manufacturing dominating again. Information itself will becomes the primary collateral, with data-backed credit, reputation scores, and tokenized IP becoming the coin of the realm. More broadly, we will complete the shift from the 2008–2026 “globalization and cheap debt” paradigm to a 2032–2053 paradigm of fragmented, high-tech, information-dense trade networks.

In short, 2027–2032 will be one of the sharpest, most structural economic regime changes in a century. It’ll be deeper and more transformative than 2008, even if the percentage drawdowns are not always as dramatic. The lows will simply last longer, because this time we are not merely repairing an old system; we’re watching the old system die and something genuinely new take its place.

    • I very much appreciate this detailed and informed analysis – thank you.

I appreciate it, and at the same time, I feel as though I have been hearing astrologers talk about social and economic collapse for decades.. and it never quite seems to happen.

You wrote: “We’re watching the old system die and something genuinely new take its place.” I love that. We need that. I hope it happens. But… there have been so many predictions about precisely this happening… which have then not happened (not to date, at any rate).

    • @AndyB: could this scenario that you have outlined here be triggered by a cascade set in motion by the collapse of China’s unsustainable economic model? It is already in crisis with its involution (race to the bottom pricing) and over production of unsaleable goods leading to a surfeit of zombie firms kept afloat by government subsidies. Such a collapse would certainly fracture supply chains worldwide. And if so, then the crisis has already begun. Whatever the case, thanks for the insights because forewarned is forearmed. And maybe the new technology will help us to weather the storm. We live in interesting times!

  4. I was wondering about two things:
How about 2027? Is that going to be a calm year in respect to 2028?
And does Russia have a role in 2028 on what is described here?

  5. The 26th of January , New Moon eclipse at 6 degrees of Aquarius is where the 1801 Sun/Pluto midpoint falls. The stellium of the Moon/Sun Pluto is very powerful. It also fall is the U.K. fourth house – home! Therefore, it could be a profound rumpus at home, involving, the People, Government and Money. Uranus rules Aquarius, which is at 6 degrees of Gemini on that day, trining the stellium in Aquarius. Uranus is also situated in the 11th house, making it at home and strong as well. Gemini is communication of all forms. Gemini ruler is Mercury is in Aquarius conjunct Mars. Certainly some vocal opinions being made clear. Especially as Mars is the ruler of Aries, with Saturn (Authority) in Aries sextile Mars; with Capricorn Saturn’s ruler on the Descendant – Authority/People/Partnership? A picture begins to emerge of perhaps an unusual eventful day in British History? It is worth noting that the 26th January, 2028 falls on a Wednesday! PMQ’s ?

  6. On a personal note, those last two years of the decade look heavy on my chart. Pluto crossing an angle (square ASC), Neptune opposing the Moon, and my second Saturn return. I’m not feeling overly apocalyptic though. I am hoping the world can sail into somewhat quieter waters after this, and allows me to hitch a ride.

    • Same here, marjorie had rightly alerted about hardship and deprivation for leos year ago so it feels not frightening reading about it in future since it seems to be on exit mode now for leos. Strengthened and know the way through.

      • Hi Rachana I’m interested in what you mean by ‘exit mode ‘for leos? I ask because my husband is a leo and is ill with a neurological condition. None of these aspects look particularly beneficial for him going forwards.

      • I suspect 2028 is going to be significant for those born with Pluto in Scorpio, particularly for those born in 1984-85 who also have Saturn in that sign.

The Annular Solar Eclipse on 26 January 2028 occurs conjunct Pluto at 6 Aquarius. This degree is also triggered by the Pluto/Saturn square in November 2028.

Bernadette Brady states that this eclipse as follows

“Opportunities to accept greater responsibilities can come suddenly into the person’s life. These new commitments will most likely come as a result of another individual being unable to carry on. Although the events which herald these opportunities may be difficult, the outcomes in terms of harmony or self-esteem are good.”

    • I will have Saturn on my Taurus sun (18 degrees) in 2029/2030 and then my Saturn Return will be in early Gemini.
Five years of fun, fun, fun!!

    • One thing about Astrology is our attitude towards it. Most of the outer planets are slow moving – even Uranus, although Uranus for me always worked out going in the opposite direction to others. You’re having a second Saturn return, not a first one, so you have lived through one and survived. Pluto crossing an angle can be a rebirthing in some respect. It may just bring back old wounds or attitudes which need a rethink. Furthermore, your Moon has opposed your Neptune fleetingly each month. Perhaps mark these days and see how you feel, or even look back a few months. I have lived with a Saturn Moon on my descendant and a Sun/Pluto conjunction on my IC all my life. Hard aspects are very challenging. Although Leo’ have been several hard aspects by Pluto- especially when it moved through its own sign Scorpio squaring Leo!

      • Agree with all of this. In my case, that Neptune transit to the Moon is accompanied by Pluto and Uranus trines to it, ironically. Pluto has crossed my Sun and ASC in the last 40 yrs, and I have an intuition which things will change in my life already. So, rebirth is the flavour of the time.

  7. 2009 had Cancer Capricorn eclipses after the financial crisis when Pluto had just moved to Cap too.
I feel that Chiron and Saturn together square Pluto etc will have to be about money hardships for many and as for 21 Cancer eclipse, can’t wait ! for that one as the first planet (Sun) over that eclipse is on my birthday.
Also worth noting maybe that private landlords will have a harder time eviction tenants from May 1st 2026 and the first planet over the 28 Aquarius eclipse is Mars on March 1st 2026 and that’s the last day that landlords can give section 21s in England, 2 months notice. I’m watching that with interest as I’ve started to look at the first planet over any eclipse and they often tell the right story. Don’t know if anyone else has studied them.

    • Saturn in Taurus would probably indicate material restrictions and hardships. The square to Pluto can also generate a very powerful stubborn resilience. Both those aspects cropped up in the UK chart in the period 1940-42 when Saturn passed through the 8th House which saw the toughest years of the Second World War with the Blitz, rationing and many military losses. The next square between Pluto in Leo and Saturn in Scorpio occurred in 1956 just before the Suez crisis.

Pluto/Saturn squares coincided with recessions and stock market crashes in 1973-74, 1992 (Black Wednesday in the UK) and the financial fallout from the 2008 GFC during the square of 2009.
