  1. HI Marjorie

I was wondering about the report from the Guardian and the BBC concerning the Queen’s personal finances –

“The Queen was shown legislation which may have forced her to reveal her private finances in the 1970s “by convention”, Buckingham Palace says. Papers published by the Guardian suggest the monarch’s personal lawyers successfully lobbied to change a draft law to conceal her wealth. The documents were unearthed as part of an investigation into Queen’s consent.
It is a process where Parliament asks for consent when debating bills which affect the Crown’s interests.
More than 1,000 draft laws have been seen by the Queen or the Prince of Wales before being approved by MPs as part of the procedure, the Guardian said. Queen’s consent is always granted where requested, the palace said.
The long-established convention sees the monarch asked to provide consent by Parliament when it is considering legislation “which would affect the prerogative or interests of the Crown”, according to the Royal Family’s website. This process is separate to Royal Assent, where the monarch formally approves to a bill passed by Parliament for it to become law.
Royal Assent has not been refused since 1708.
The government memos, found in the National Archives, date back to 1973. They show that the Queen, concerned that new legislation might force her to reveal her private holdings in companies, despatched lawyers to argue her case with the then Department of Trade and Industry. A revision to the draft law subsequently enabled her as a head of state to sidestep the new regulations. The Guardian suggests that early sight of the draft legislation, under the powers of Queen’s consent, gave the monarch an unrivalled opportunity to influence the legislation to her advantage”

Any thoughts on how this will effect the Crown ? It seems to be a problematic revelation

  2. Trump’s health finally on the decline?

Reported today on CNN that “President Donald Trump is beginning “portions” of his annual physical exam. In an unannounced visit Saturday afternoon, Trump, 73, arrived at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.”

“Trump’s trip to Walter Reed on Saturday took place under unusual circumstances. His two previous physical exams in office were announced ahead of time by the White House and noted on his daily public schedule…This time, however, the President’s motorcade drove to the medical center unannounced, with reporters under direction not to report his movement…”

He still claims absolute authority over the press?

“At February’s physical exam (2019), Trump weighed 243 pounds, four pounds more than the previous year’s exam. His blood pressure was measured as 118/80, and results showed he had increased his daily dose of rosuvastatin, a medication used to treat high cholesterol.” No more Happy Meal Cheeseburders for this guy!

Can rosuvastatin cause liver damage? – Infrequent but serious side effects of Crestor include rhabdomyolysis (muscle damage or destruction) that can lead to acute renal failure and liver damage.

    Common long-term side effects include:
    difficulty with moving
    hoarseness
    pain in the joints
    trouble swallowing
    voice changes

Life’s tough for someone playing as much golf as he does!

    • And the results…?

“Jackson also revealed that Trump underwent a coronary calcium CT scan as part of his routine physical exam. Trump’s score was recorded as 133, and Gupta noted at the time that anything over 100 indicates plaque is present and that the patient has heart disease.”

  3. Hello Marjorie, following the withdrawal of the Brexit Party from contesting all parliamentary seats with a sitting Tory MP, Robert Peston points out that the Conservatives need to GAIN seats, not just maintain them, and that the presence of the Brexit Party might still split the Tory vote, leading to Labour win in the traditional Labour heartlands. Given this new turn of events, might it be worth looking at the Brexit Party plus Farage plus Tice? Thank you.
