Professional boxer Amir Khan has announced on twitter (where else?) that he is splitting from his wife the volatile Faryal, alleging she had been cheating on him with heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (who denies it). The back story involves a loud and very public battle between Faryal and Amir’s family, who had accused her of being a gold-digger and dressing in an unIslamic fashion – he’s worth £23 million and she bares a lot of flesh. She gave him an ultimatum to choose between her or his family. Oh and there’s a sex tape of Khan performing a sex act on a webcam while chatting with a model which was leaked to a US porn site. All very 21st Century.

Also, how very hypocritical and patriarchal/misogynistic of his family to judge her for being anti-Islamic while he’s the one who got caught having sex with himself via webcam with somebody he’s never met. I bet if it was the other way around they’d be raising the roof with vitriol towards her. Seems to me they both found their level in each other and his family should stop lording themselves around as if they were holier than thou.
But, extreme lack of self-awareness and dysfunctional family laundry airing is all very 21st-century fodder. They’ll have their own TV show before long and Faryal will probably end up on Love Island. Or something.
