Jerome Powell – economic scapegoat

Jerome Powell, Trump’s pick as chairman of the US Federal Reserve, has been slagged off by the President as having ‘no feel’ for the economy – in his standard when-things-go-wrong-find-someone-to blame mode.

Powell, 4 February 1953, is a fixed Aquarius Sun opposition Pluto and square Jupiter in Taurus. His chart is riddled with quincunxes which will give him a degree of strain – his Sun is inconjunct Uranus, and his Mars in Pisces is on the apex of a Yod to Saturn Neptune in Libra sextile Pluto.

His looks mighty confused and undermined from the final day of this month on and off till late 2020 with tr Pluto square his Neptune – and the effect of that runs on as it then squares his Saturn/Neptune midpoint in 2021/22 and onto square his Saturn which is highly discouraging and challenging. Thus many banana skins ahead along with panicky moments especially in 2020 and on.

His relationship with Trump is under buckets of cold water this year into 2020 with tr Saturn square the composite Sun and Neptune, then hitting on Mercury and Jupiter. It’s a ratchety chemistry at the best of times but will worsen considerably ahead.

The US Federal Reserve chart, 16 November 1914 9am Washington, DC, is into a nerve-wracked two or three years with tr Uranus square the Neptune at the moment, moving in 2020 to oppose the Mercury and Moon and then square the Uranus – it’ll be a bumpy ride.

  1. Next year will probably hold some difficulty for Powell, with his natal Moon, Saturn and Neptune catching squares from transiting Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto. Really this has already begun. tr. Mars in Aries late in 2020, in a retrograde cycle for much of the period of the general election, will be opposing those natal points in his chart. So Fed policy and Powell himself are sure to be contentious issues over the election. He will be frustrated and under fire during that time. It is possible that the economy will be in difficult straits by then. Then by late 2021 through 2023, Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus move to aspect his natal Sun and Mercury in Aquarius and his Jupiter in Taurus. Definitely could suggest issues with currency valuations and other fundamental economic issues.

  2. I haven’t studied the rules and regulations, but I presume Trump can replace him? Although this has pretty much never be done? I wonder then if this is why Stephen Moore’s name has been in the news the last few days (16 February 1960, New Trier Township, Illinois).

    • Trump cannot remove the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System without “cause”, but he could easily crank up his brain and find something. However, Powell would still remain on the Board of Governors until 2028 (they have 14 year nonrenewable terms). Powell could be reappointed as Chairman of the Board again at any time.

Moore is not a member of the Board, and has to be voted to a position on the Board by the Senate before he could be named Chairman.

Trump read an op-ed by Moore and became enamored of his point of view.

      • Thank you, Mrs. Bhali. Didn’t know that. Stephen has been on CNN for months and months arguing pro Trump. And when I saw the titles in the news, I was just like “How come I didn’t see that?!” (That he was actually advertising himself for a Fed post and was aiming at it. It now seems so obvious.)

        • And I thank Wikipedia, and you, Aleph. Your question made me wonder how the Fed worked, and how much power Trump had over it. As for Moore, one of the news articles I read was titled “Trump nominates famous idiot Stephen Moore to Federal Reserve Board”.
