Hindsight being a wonderful thing it was perfectly obvious why Trump won the 2016 USA election since his chart was littered with Jupiterian goodies of a considerable magnitude. Only disbelief that a showboating reality star could conceivably romp into the White House obscured the astrology – which it shouldn’t have done but we’re only human.
The same could not be said of Boris Johnson’s sizeable victory in the UK election. Apart from a few Jupiterian transits in trine to his Uranus, Solar Arc Midheaven and Pluto – and they aren’t due till the spring 2020 – there is precious little cheerful on his chart apart from those breadcrumbs. Everything else is downbeat, panicky, blocked, bad-tempered even over this election few days till next Thursday. And the undermining influences run into February 2020.
Girlfriend Carrie Symonds looks thoroughly dismayed over these few days up to the 19th with tr Saturn conjunct her Sun/Pluto and square her Sun/Venus midpoints.
Dominic Cummings, former adviser, out for health reasons, looks more than devastated at the moment till the 20th.
The two Conservative Party charts are no help either for what has been their biggest win since Maggie Thatcher in 1979. The 10 May 1912 chart looks confused if not devastated and completely blocked and panicked until this New Year.
The 18 December 1834 chart is equally stressed with a blocked tr Pluto square Saturn and tr Saturn conjunct the Solar Arc Mars square Saturn till the New Year. Part of the explanation for that may be the splits within the party with former PMs advocating members voting their own candidates. Or that political party charts aren’t too illuminating full stop.
The UK 1801 chart has one cheerful tr Pluto square the Sun/Jupiter midpoint at the moment – perhaps an indication of Brexit fatigue and hell-mend-it just-get-on-with-it. A hung parliament would just have dragged the agony out longer. But that enthusiastic influence disappears within days; and there are simultaneously confused, panicky and depressed influences of tr Neptune square the Solar Arc Mars and then Mercury next year; with a discouraging tr Saturn opposition the Moon exactly now.
There’s a hint of a radical shift late this month from tr Uranus sextile the UK Pluto running through January – on country charts, even soft aspects act like hard.
But I would have to say given what we now know I’m not sure I would have changed my interpretations that much. Which isn’t much help – but election predictions are always tricky and this one is a head scratcher. Either Boris’s birth time is way out or he’s in a flat out meltdown at having won and now being faced with having to deliver.
Add on: Mark Cullen of Skyscript and Paul Saunders on facebook both got it right, concentrating on traditional astrology methods and in Paul Saunders’ case by looking at Venus, the UK ruler, sandwiched between Saturn Pluto in Capricorn – which couldn’t be more conservative if it tried.
I tend to stick to personal birth charts which isn’t perfect since it’s difficult to distinguish between the panic of being landed with a beyond-weighty job, no matter how wished for in advance, and the panic of losing. Though there’s usually some Jupiterian cheer in there to balance up the more sombre aspects.
When Tony Blair was first elected in 1997 he had tr Jupiter moving through his 10th and tr Jupiter opposition his Pluto.
John Major in 1990 had tr Jupiter opposition his Mars; Solar Arc Jupiter square his Uranus; and tr Jupiter square his MC.
JFK in 1960 had his Solar Arc Jupiter Mercury conjunct his Pluto; tr Uranus just over the square to his Jupiter; and tr Jupiter moving to trine his Solar Arc MC.
Margaret Thatcher had less Jupiter visible though it was conjunct her leadership North Node in Leo exactly. And tr Saturn was just into her 10th – and she was very Saturnine and danced to its tune more closely than some.
What Blair, Maggie, Major and JFK shared on their election were strong Saturn Pluto aspects which Sakoian & Acker associate with serious matters of a corporate nature and responsibility for the masses – tr Pluto conjunct Solar Arc Saturn, tr Saturn conjunct Solar Arc Pluto, tr Saturn trine Solar Arc Pluto; and tr Pluto conjunct Solar Arc Saturn respectively.
Boris lacks Jupiter influences on his chart at the moment which is bizarre given his obvious jubilation at least in public. He does have Solar Arc Pluto coming to trine his Saturn, exact within weeks.
His natal Saturn is conjunct the UK Pluto with his Uranus in opposition. That UK Pluto is due a final elbow from tr Uranus in sextile from late December to early February 2020, so it may be that he can be seen, a touch like Trump, as a disruptor – a wrecking ball at the end of an era, in Kissinger’s concept, with no clear idea of what comes next but a necessary trickster with the ‘ability’ to lay waste the past.
My guess: This is an election that, in 10 or 20 years, the Tories will regret having won. Now they’re going to have to see through, and be associated with, all the stupidity of Brexit. No DUP or opposition to blame, it’s all theirs. Labour can regroup and find a leader less unpopular than Corbyn.
Majorie, I think your last paragraph is spot on. It’s not even clear that Boris knows what he wants, besides being anointed, and Pluto, in the form of Cummings et al, will fill that void and tear down the house. Johnson certainly exhibits more than enough carelessness to abandon plenary of babies in order to flush a little bath water. This really is the end of empire, with a thump. Going to be very tough at the bottom, and very precarious near it.
I think the problem is, yes we have the election result, but we don’t know yet how it is going to pan out and the astrology will probably make a lot of sense when it does. I think we need to wait and see what happens next year.
On election night after the close of poll came through I saw Priti Patel and Mark Francois looking very upbeat and chipper on TV being interviewed, but you could tell that they were too thick to realise that the big majority means that Johnson doesn’t need them and the ERG any more. Look what happened to the DUP (and anyone else) when Boris Johnson didn’t need them any more. Things need time to unfold.
Very astute regarding Patel, Francois & ERG being dispensable.
Boris Johnson is a Gemini pragmatist. He will do what’s best for Boris. This will, I think, inevitably include a number of members of his cabinet. We have already seen his ruthless Mars in Scorpio operating, and Scorpio Mars is emphasised in the new government’s own chart too. Even during the campaign they somehow managed to lock J Rees Mogg (another Gemini) away somewhere. Boris once wanted to be World King, and kings tend to dispose of or exile those they no longer have any use for.
I agree, but in a Mars retrograde year, those kid of stunts tend to backfire.
Johnson’s natal Mars, Saturn and Uranus have moved by solar arc to 24-29 cardinal signs, at the moment. Past analysis shows that his stationary Saturn seems to be an indicator for key events in his life, right now the SA Saturn is receiving all the heavyweight Capricorn activity, but in September next year:
– Mars will station retrograde there exactly.
– SA Uranus will change signs into Scorpio, exactly conjunct the natal Moon
So he will need to be careful about his usual shenanigans and shocks from the past coming catching up with him.
Marjorie – I am a new fan of yours and love your updates! I think you mentioned a while back (I used to read other sites and only found this one a few months back so can’t be sure!) that Scotland would get Indy. However, although what seems like a massive mandate of 48/59 seats, Johnson is blocking it. Is there a way forward on this? I hope Scotland can escape the right wing influence we have here now.
What sort of Brexit do you see it being?
Thanks
Debbie
Marjorie, Lisa Nandy is being touted as a successor to Jeremy Corbyn. How do you see her prospects? Thanks
Not every country is similarly affected by the Saturn-Pluto conjunction’s emphasis on conservatism. Canada just reelected Justin Trudeau, although weakened. Ditto for Spain and the Nordic countries. It depends on each national chart. In the case of the UK, the conjunction directly opposes the Moon at 19 Cancer, which probably means the people will suffer from heightened inequality, class structure and indifference to social needs despite the initial satisfaction derived by many from Brexit, which could quickly turn to economic disillusionment.
Not all Saturn/Pluto aspects have had a conservative effect on the UK, some have coincided with rather more socialist events:
The 1948 Saturn/Pluto conjunction coincided with every UK household receiving a leaflet through the letterbox explaining the brand new National Health Service, introduced by the Labour government. (Conjunction in Leo, keeping the Saturn power in check)
The 1966 General election campaign ran during Saturn/Pluto (Uranus) opposition, won by Harold Wilson’s Labour (Retrograde Mercury passing over Saturn in Pisces on election day, Pluto is in Virgo ruled by Mercury – Mercury=workers/health service, a symbol of Labour party?). Difficult to tell with Uranus and Neptune so involved.
These 20th Century ones did tend to roughly coincide with events abroad; independence from the empire or in the case of the 1956 fixed Square – Suez crisis. Interesting that we had our last Gemini prime minister (also a Conservative and former Foreign Secretary) in 1956 too. 1956 was also a Mars Rx/Venus Rx year. In July 1956 Venus stationed at 22 Gemini and next year will also station at 21 Gemini.
The 1982 conjunction in cardinal Libra seemed to have a more domestic effect, with the UK’s cardinal Moon. Even the Falklands War seemed to be done for domestic effect as much as the desired nationality of the islands inhabitants. Note the complete difference in relations and co-operation during that time with the USA. The Conservatives position in the north of the country was the extreme polar opposite of today. This was another Ven Rx and Mars Rx year, Mars stationed retrograde at 19 Libra just before it reached the Saturn/Pluto conjunction. Venus, ruling all of them by sign, stationed at 23 Capricorn (a little echo from the past next year?) squaring Saturn while in mutual reception. Saturn, although strong by exaltation in Libra, still held in check by Venus, the chart ruler of the UK. Whereas Saturn in Capricorn at the moment is very much it’s own boss.
but if the chart is recast for London not New York, same UT, you can see it, it seems to work for me in similar circumstance, though it means evolving ac mc points..
I think that anyone who goes into office under the current circumstances isn’t going to be feeling too upbeat, because they aren’t going to be dealing with optimal political or economic circumstances. The Full Moon in Gemini exactly conjunct Boris’s Mercury signaled the public’s support for his agenda. It was the clincher in my view.
The Moon at the close of polls was on Boris’s Sun Venus conjunction and on Corbyn’s Uranus. Boris’s chart links in with the 1801 UK chart unlike Corbyn. There are 4 planets in Capricorn right now which supports conservatism. I guess.
I think Mark Cullen got the result and the fate of the 3 leaders down to a tee.
Did Jo Swinson’s chart show the potential for the loss of her seat?
Paul Saunders is the astrologer who is being mentioned by other astrologers as getting the result spot on – a Conservative landslide. He is only on Facebook. He predicts Scotland will separate from the UK in a couple of years, if that interests anyone…
I really hope the conservative takeover in the UK isn’t a prelude to something similar happening here in the States next year. I know the Saturn / Pluto Conjunction that’s coming up often represents conservatism. However, what we’re enduring here in the States right now is far from traditional conservatism; we are literally living in an alt-right fascist cesspool.
Donald Trump and the Republican Party have made it quite clear that they only care about being in positions of power and control; they have absolutely no regard whatsoever for the rule of law. Even as evidence of Trump’s many criminal offenses continue to mount and his Republican associates find it more challenging to defend or make excuses for him, they all remain adamant they will continue to support one another. The impeachment process by the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives is currently under way and Trump and his supporters remain as arrogant and defiant as ever. He has a personality cult unlike anything I’ve seen before. Granted, Trump’s deplorable base isn’t the majority and he doesn’t have a prayer of ever winning the popular vote, the Electoral College could still act as his firewall if we Democrats don’t win back the states we need next year.
Despite my concerns about next year’s Saturn / Pluto Conjunction, there is a part of me that feels things may not shift too far to the dark side. If I’m not mistaken, isn’t Saturn like a “boomerang planet?” In other words, isn’t there karma aspect attached to Saturn? I was thinking if one has done the right things in life, Saturn can be somewhat rewarding. However, if one has chosen to habitually make bad (or harmful) decisions, then Saturn can dish out repercussions.
Since Trump and the Republican Party have spend years lying, cheating, manipulating, and taking advantage of other people as well as abusing their power, then I would think Saturn wouldn’t be all that rewarding to them next year. I know there are many other aspects to consider, but I am still hoping there will be some justice next year.
Also, Astrologer Wendell C. Perry from Golly Astrology recently posted a piece on December 8th he titles: “January Jitters” where he discusses a major event expected to take place between January 11 and January 24.
Astrologer Perry writes: “On the 24th of January Saturn will be exactly opposite Mercury in the Sibly horoscope for the US. Pluto will be moving toward the same position and both will be within a degree of that opposition for the last week of January and much of February. This aspect is worrisome because Saturn and Pluto are both in the Second House of finance and the Sibly Mercury is in the Eighth House of investment. This could signal a darkening of the country’s economic outlook and an end to our booming economy.”
If Astrologer Perry’s observation is correct about a possible economic downfall here in the States next year, then I would imagine that would make it even harder for Trump to get reelected. Historically, whenever the economy goes, so does the political party in power.
Anyway, I read many astrological predictions of a Boris Johnson win in the U.K. I’m surprised (and deeply disappointed) that he will remain in power and that the Tories now have unprecedented power. I’m sure xenophobia was the driving force behind the massive Conservative Party victories…just like xenophobia, racism, misogyny, and homophobia are the driving forces behind Trump and the Republican’s undeserving success.

I tend to think that there will be a shift in economic sentiment next month. Currently we have Jupiter in Capricorn trining Uranus in Taurus, which is generally positive for the markets. But that influence lifts in 2 weeks, just as Saturn approaches Pluto. Next months aspects do support the theory that this shift will take place by then. Not only is Sun/Mercury/Saturn/Pluto conjuncting next month, but there’s also a lunar eclipse at 19 degrees Cancer a day before and Uranus is going direct as well. There could be a sudden shift in momentum downward in equities and financials in particular.
I also use the NYSE Buttonwood chart to track market action. Next month is particularly highlighted there. The eclipse at 19 Cancer squares the NYSE’s Moon 19 Aries and Jupiter at 22 Libra, which is also being squared by Saturn/Pluto in Capricorn. Uranus is stationary close to the NYSE Venus/MC in early Taurus. The going gets much heavier later in 2020 when the NYSE’s natal Saturn/Neptune opposition receives hard aspects from Mars in Aries, plus Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. But more short term in late January, we also have the New Moon in late Capricorn conjunct Saturn/Pluto on Jan 24, and Venus in Pisces squaring Mars in Sagittarius, all aspecting Neptune in Pisces. Venus/Mars/Neptune will be in hard angles to the NYSE Mars in Virgo in the 2nd house.
Plus Saturn/Pluto will start its year-long opposition to Trump’s Venus in Cancer next month, which is generally not good for finances, money or popularity. A negative economy will hurt his political standing, especially given that he’s tied it to the performance of the equities market.
“Since Trump and the Republican Party have spend years lying, cheating, manipulating, and taking advantage of other people as well as abusing their power, then I would think Saturn wouldn’t be all that rewarding to them next year. I know there are many other aspects to consider, but I am still hoping there will be some justice next year. ”
Let’s not kid outselves and dbl-speak a way toward pink clouds. Trump’s arrogance will become more than what is currently possible. He’ll begin to change laws regarding term limits. Don;t assume Putin won;t consider tossing a few nukes at our ships and air force either. Trump NEEDS to become a strong man in the global setting, and won;t rest until Greta Thunberg is removed. Putin won;t hesitate to lend a hidden guiding hand in that.
Trump’s health is clearly on the decline. As I wrote previously, Trump falls over, Pence and Mother step into the vacuum. but who is next in succession is Pelosi. I do not believe the GOP is seriously looking at this outome.
“If Astrologer Perry’s observation is correct about a possible economic downfall here in the States next year, then I would imagine that would make it even harder for Trump to get reelected. Historically, whenever the economy goes, so does the political party in power.”
Don’t kid yourself. Trump will spend the most of 2020 ensuring GOP retains power and control. Like with Hitler, the cheering masses to approve anything and anything that the GOP portrays as MAGA.
So a 73 year-old Trump threw a jealous narcissistic sulk on Twitter because a teenager received an accolade.
A small man becomes even smaller.
So where is Mrs “Be Best?
“Cyberbullying crusader Melania Trump silent on her husband’s mocking of 16-year-old Thunberg – Her cause is anti-bullying, which is making the first lady’s silence deafening. https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/13/politics/melania-trump-greta-thunberg-donald-trump-cyberbullying/index.html”
I guess the astrology is conjunct the marital agreement T&C.
Two things helped Johnson astrowise: one was the Full Moon in Gemini energizing his natal Gemini planets, and two, as Jane points out, the general climate is favoring right wing parties with the Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn building up. Although with tr. Neptune in Pisces squaring that Full Moon (and Johnson’s Mercury more long-term), he might be slippery and difficult to pin down at the moment, will make promises he cannot or does not intend to keep.
Marjorie deserves a great deal of credit for predicting this outcome way back in 2002. 🙂 In her book, “The Astrological History of the World” (which I have in my library as a very useful historical reference tool), she predicted that “a repressive government or a dictatorial British leader may emerge around 2020 to reassert authority, starting with high hopes but bringing disappointing results.” pg. 256 Certainly Johnson’s government is very conservative, and with a resounding electoral mandate, he will have the ability to wield power like few PM’s have had in a long time. But the Brexit process will be fraught with risks to financial flows and supply chains, and the global economy at this point is in contraction, which might limit his ability to make due on his ambitious plans. With tr. Neptune in Pisces squaring some of Johnson’s Gemini placements in the coming years, it’s likely that disappointment will manifest in the coming years.
And the UK 1801 chart features a Sun in Capricorn and natal Moon in nationalistic Cancer. The Moon is currently being stressed by the Saturn/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, suggesting a country that is in a conservative, reactionary mood. The lunar eclipse next month at 19 degrees Cancer is directly over the country’s Moon as well. That can certainly signify the UK breaking away from the European Union, reclaiming nationalist prerogatives. Generally I see this result as a byproduct of the Saturn/Pluto conjunction. Many other countries are dealing with similar issues with right-wing parties gaining a foothold. The trend might begin to recede with the Jupiter/Saturn conjunction in Aquarius next year, which represents a shift in the political and economic climate. But with Pluto still in Capricorn for a couple more years, it might be a while before some of these governments are replaced.
Thanks. Maybe I need to stand back by a decade or two before leaping in – distance clearly clears my vision.
Agree all the Capricorn points to a right wing conservative tendency. I’m just bemused by Boris’s chart – not a happy camper at all.
Maybe he’s not a happy camper because now he’s going to have to do some work and put his money where his mouth is, instead of doing his Bertie Wooster style comedy act and coming out with jingoistic soundbites. He strikes me as someone with remarkably little substance once you remove the persona/mask.
100%. He’s a spiv and carpet bagger.
I suspect the 12th house Saturn Pluto Venus in Capricorn are the hidden influences, the things which will unravel – self undoing- as we go along in relation to the grotesque lies and inflated drivel he spoke to get elected, and the covert agreements i have no doubt are in place with Rupert Murdoch/ BBC, the NHS for mad Donald and his crew, Brexit real politik , and so on. He will go down in history as a Baron von Munchausen opportunist and come to a sticky end. One can hope.
Farage’s role in this election, stepping aside for BJ is interesting too. Wonder what the deal was there? Our man in D.C.?
Sure but I’d still have expected to see some obvious signs of cheer on his chart from a resounding win – alongside panic about having to deliver. But there’s really nothing upbeat.
Perhaps the Sisyphean task of delivering Brexit is the poison in this particular chalice.
You’re welcome!
A lot of times, those difficult transits reflect the burdens of high office and what they will be going through politically more than anything else.
Dear Marjorie,
I have often wondered whether a relocated chart could be more accurate for a person whose adult experience is based far distant to the birthplace, this would place his Solar Arc Jupiter directly conjunct his MC, this parallels my own experience where both natal and relocated have meaning but in different ways
Sure it should be. Not sure if my software is playing up but I can’t get SA Jupiter on his relocated mc.
I liked Mark Cullen’s analysis and he seemed to have got it right. http://skyscript.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10731&fbclid=IwAR1cOu-elC4cTAFjoTX5-5eGn0v-JcsdTKIf1pO1u03OvquHuV7HclpgH_s
His analysis is very sound and based on traditional astrology rather than personal birth charts.
I took a different perspective on Boris Johnson’s chart (at least in terms of near term election success..looks rough from 2022 onwards?).
At the very top of his chart, he’s both approaching a nodal return, and had tr Election Day moon exactly conj his natal Sun/Ven —> later trining natal moon nocturnally.
That in addition to some of the slower trines upcoming for 2020/21 looked more favorable to me vs Corbyn’s chart. I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes after spring 2022, though.
Thanks Marjorie. Well, I thought the Tories would get in again with so much Capricorn building up in the planets. However, the big majority is surprising I agree – Jupiter expanding the Capricorn atmosphere? Many struggled to see Jeremy Corbyn as prime minister, Brexit issues notwithstanding. And I’m sure Boris will be panicking now he has to actually put his money where his motor-mouth is and deliver on those promises. Interesting what you say about Carrie as well – would suspect the Saturn influence suggests a desire for a formal commitment like marriage…..can she really just go on being his partner for, probably/possibly, the next five years as she gets closer to her 40th birthday? Maybe she’d like children?
Brexit will still go on and on, even after the UK leaves. It will take a long time to negotiate all manner of deals and agreements – something that’s been glossed over rather successfully so far……
