Theresa May’s inner workings mystify most people. Rock-solid, not a lady for turning, yet she seems to lack a coherent vision that drives her actions, leaving the impression, in Matthew Parris’ memorable phrase, of ‘an enigma without a secret’.
Her strongest Harmonic is the 16th – putting the 16H Sun square Uranus Saturn; and linking an uncompromising and adrenaline-rush combination of Mars Uranus.
David Hamblin describes the 16H as the ‘chart of conflict’ – in which the individual is drawn to conflict as a way of resolving internal dilemmas.
Charles Harvey talks of the 16H (and 4H, 8H etc) being will-driven with a goal of personal power and backs this up by pointing to dictators for whom hard Sun Uranus aspects are the norm in their 16th harmonic charts – Mussolini, Franco, Tito, Churchill, Louis XIV and Hitler. The 16H gives super-human endurance and stubbornness but tends to be self-destructive; can attract catastrophes, disappointments, humiliation.
May’s 8th Harmonic, (one down in the same series) is even more stark with Saturn Pluto trine Mercury trine Neptune Mars, formed into a Kite by Saturn opposition opposition Uranus. In numerology 8 is a fated number, giving an abundance of strength and stubbornness in the face of difficulties; but is generally thought unlucky, with a bumpy road to success, if it comes, which doesn’t bring happiness.
I can’t find the reference but I recollect reading (from I think Michael Harding) about a Scandanavian fisherman who survived hours in freezing waters, way beyond normal human capability. He had a strongly aspected 16th Harmonic so it does have its uses. Though I have a sense May attracts herself to – and creates – symbolically similar situations in order to work out some internal conflict as Hamblin says.
All of that sounds a million miles from the douce, church-going, grammar school, vicar’s daughter image she projects. But she was born on the same day as Gina Haspel, now head of the CIA, who has clearly also been drawn to extreme circumstances.
May’s stonewalling, no other option, no Plan B, could be seen as almost pathological – the only way to not drown is to become totally tunnel-visioned. So she’s eternally locked into unwinnable arguments which is the way she likes it.
Even Maggie Thatcher didn’t have as strong or afflicted 8/16th harmonics and she was excessively will-driven.
Additional thought: Her Mercury is conjunct the Fixed Star Scheat which can give intellectual ability though was always thought of as a malefic, related to Mars Mercury. And (thanks Hugh) her Progressed Mars is now conjunct her Mercury – and Scheat, which is associated with drowning amongst other disasters – presumably symbolically as well as literally.
Add on: Some descriptive comments after the Westminster meltdown, all from Telegraph journalists, who are Tory supporters, to flesh out the picture.
Allison Pearson: ‘a mule flogging a dead horse.’ ‘What kind of person is it who can do the most amazingly humiliating thing yet manage to show not one iota of humility? Theresa May, that’s who. “Does she not GET IT by now?’ demanded the DUP’s Nigel Dodds on Monday, expressing the widespread incredulity at the full-blown fiasco the PM had got herself – and us – into.
No, Nigel, she will never get it because she can’t. The notes on the keyboard are missing. Over the past few weeks, Mrs May has attracted supportive headlines for her formidable work rate and resilience. Fair enough, you might say, but there comes a point when the, “You have to admire her tenacity” argument gives way to, “There’s something really not right there.” To be so weirdly oblivious to how you are perceived, to stand up in Parliament and claim credit for publishing the full legal advice on the Irish backstop when you personally fought a bitter rearguard action to suppress that advice goes beyond politics into the realms of the pathological.’
Tim Stanley: “It was Mrs May’s mistakes and bad choices that led her to standing at the Dispatch box before a House largely stacked against her, rambling on about clarity like a high-operating Scientologist.“
Sherelle Jacobs: ‘The PM’s attitude to Brexit – the pathological procrastinating, the soviet-like surreptitiousness, the disgraceful lack of ambition.’ ‘For two years she has clung, white-knuckled at the coal face, committed to a mediocre deal, and for it been praised as “resilient”. ‘She has spent two years vacillating, capitulating and trying to cover up her mistakes. Her deal is 585 pages of passive resignation. It is Brexit without an active verb, change without the doing word; decline, debilitation, drift.’
I imagine that there must be some major psychological detachment going on to pick up such a poisoned chalice. The only thing I can say about her is that we almost ended up with Andrea Leadsom, which gives me a chill every time I think about it.
But yeah, that’s all I got
That awful woman is known as ‘Andrea Loathsome’ in our household.
Marjorie do you think there is a personality disorder or some other mental health issue with May? I’m really not trying to be unkind just looking for a cogent explanation as to her increasingly bizarre conduct. Most politicians at that level have a pretty thick skin I guess but she really is way out on her own.
I‘m not a conservative but I do love an acid turn of phrase especially when it echoes what I’ve thought. Allison Pearson’s Telegraph howl about Theresa May is a gem – ‘a mule flogging a dead horse.’

The thing that gets me about Mrs May is the sense of piousness – the sense that stubbornly carrying out this plan against all evidence, in the face of all criticism and probably against her own better judgement, is somehow virtuous.
Well said
David Hamblin in his Harmonic book, “The Magic of Numbers”, omits the 4th, 8th, 16th and 32nd Harmonic chart interpretations. Why???
Because the above numbers when factored reverted back to the 2nd Harmonis. For example:
4= 2 X2 8= 2 X 2 X 2 16= 2 X 2 X 2 X2 32= 2 X 2 X 2 X 2 X 2. In other words H4, H8, H16 and H32 are really H2 on steroids.
Other authors like David Cochrane and our Marjorie have interpretations for these Harmonics.
Hamblin’s interp of H2 is conflict which echoes thru’ Harmonics 4, 8, 16 and 32 etc.
Hamblin also eliminates Harmonic 25 interps as 25= 5 X 5…So H25 is really an echo of H5. He also eliminates Harmonic 9 and 27 as these
just echo H3.
Charles Harvey is most enlightening on 4,8,16 – in Working with Astrology.
On the enigma of TMay – donkey-like in her obduracy but not too bright. From today’s papers.
‘One senior minister said Mrs May did not have a clear plan, likening her strategy to Wilkins Micawber, the Dickens character who forever insists that “something will turn up”.
‘Much of the blame lies with Mrs May herself. “It’s an incredibly tough negotiation”, said one prominent Whitehall official, “and it was always going to be. But you add a litany of unforced, mostly stupid, errors and you end up where she is now.”’
She set red lines in her Lancaster House speech – ‘before really understanding the implications of them, especially on something as crucial as leaving the ECJ.”
‘Another senior Whitehall figure was even more scathing: “The red lines in that speech were all for tub-thumping domestic consumption and without any serious thought as to how they would land elsewhere. She literally did not understand what she had said.”
Just had another thought which may or may not be anything – TM’s old adversary, who shadowed her for years, Yvette Cooper has her Sun at 29 Pisces.
May is presiding over the end of the Conservative Party as we now know it. The usually noble Libran instinct to balance and diplomatise has run its course and there seems nothing left but fundamental split, endless acrimony, lies, double dealing, vested interests.
There’s strong talk of a political break away, involving Farage, Johnson and the usual right wing goons from the Tory party, allied to their US friends in the alt right, Trump and so on.
Is there any astrology which shows TMay slinging her hook if she loses on Tuesday and a wider split among the Tories going forward? Our country is on its knees and we have 3rd rate clowns and sleazy incompetents running the show. It’s horrendous.
It’s not at all clear how the Labour leadership stand on Brexit either. The Tory party are in disarray but where is our Leader of the Opposition in all of this? I honestly cannot recall a political landscape plagued with so much obfuscation, confusion and fog. Jupiter in its own sign is approaching a square with Neptune in its own sign – hardly the best astrology for such crucial times for the UK.
The Labour leadership seem to be noticeable by its muteness!
I must confess to feeling a degree of sympathy for TM if only because I was born about a month and a half after her in 1956 so my personal chart has many similarities with hers. Such is the nature of progressions that she is now going to have her progressed Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars at degrees that I experienced as a 4-5 year old. All I can say is that was a traumatic period in my life particularly when Mars was conjunct Scheat. It is called the weeping degree for good reason.
I’m sorry to hear that Hugh, it must have been very traumatic if you remember it so powerfully from the age of just 4. I suppose those 6 weeks or so between you and TM make more difference than usual with the outer planets changing signs. I was born within a month and a half of Emmanuel Macron, I never thought to compare our progressions. I suppose we don’t have their Mercury and Mars retrogrades though?
Now I look at TM’s progressions I notice that her progressed Venus is at 8 Scorpio, close to where Venus stationed recently and square the earlier Mars station. The transiting Neptune opposite her Sun/Moon, which is usually personal but seems to involve her in this massive scale divorce.
Although officially TM is a remainer, didn’t the Abu Qatada deportation saga harden her view towards the EU? Particularly the ECHR. She took a lot of credit for that even though it was more a case of her simply outlasting a series of 6 previous home secretaries working on it and Qatada running out of options – there is a theme here with her.
Hahaha… ‘an enigma without a secret’. That’s classic.
