Pondering on how the recent eclipse provided a backdrop for the present conflagration in the Middle East, the previous ones in this 18.5 year Saros cycle are significant if not cheering. Though it would have to be said in addition to problems there were also positive outcomes.

I was interested to see a Solar Eclipse at 29 Leo in August 1979, the year of the Revolution. February 1980 had one at 27 Aquarius. Then on 16 February 1999 a Solar Eclipse at 27 Aquarius, and the famous total Solar Eclipse of August 1999 at 18 Leo. In July 1999, twenty years into the present regime:

the students and they were attacked by members of a state-sanctioned militia group, Ansar-e

In 1906, when Iran created their new constitution, they adopted the Lion and Sun design for their flag, which is currently banned by the current regime. The symbol links back to ancient Persian history, and seems like a potent one. In August 1906 there was a Solar Eclipse at 26 Leo, while in February there was a Lunar Eclipse at 20 Leo. This August there’s a Solar Eclipse at 20 Leo, and the Nodes will be crossing the degree of the February Solar in Aquarius, exact in the autumn. I can’t help but see these eclipses, and their Leo/Aquarius symbolism, plus the Iran 1501 chart, as significant. Also, April 1906, when tr Mars in Taurus squared the February Leo Lunar Eclipse, saw the devastating San Francisco earthquake.
Now that you highlighted the years, Marjorie, this Saros cycle touches a nerve for Iran.
August 1953 – The US backed coup that overthrew Iranian Prime Minister Mossadegeh and returned political power to the then Shah.
October 1971 – The 2,500-year celebration of the Empire of Iran, hosted by the same Shah, who spent lavishly on this celebration, while many in the country were going hungry.
June 1989 – Death of Ayatollah Khomenei and ascension of Ayatollah Khamanei as Supreme Leader of Iran.
1953 and 1989 could also be tied to the Saturn-Neptune conjunction that also impacted changes to the leadership of the Soviet Union and its demise in those years.
The Saros 121 solar eclipses cluster close to the conjunctions and oppositions in the Neptune/Saturn circa 36 year cycle. The 1990 Gulf War 1 Solar Eclipse was at 6 Aquarius so it is being activated by Pluto now and over the next couple of years.
