The Scottish National Party has thrown its support behind the Catalonian separatist movement, though they’ve dropped discussion of a second independence referendum pro tem until the Brexit negotiations conclude. Several EU countries have secessionist problems, including the UK, Belgium and Italy, so the EU will be worried about the outcome in Spain. A commentator said this week: “the Europe of regions is making a comeback.”
As far as the UK is concerned: Working off ancient country charts is dodgy since there’s always an argument as to which of several dates fits best. What is set in stone, however, is the Act of Union between Scotland and England, which came into effect on 1 May 1707 JC presumably at 12 am. That chart would point to movement towards a split picking up a head of steam from 2020 with tr Uranus square the Act Uranus, moving towards a climax around 2023. As tr Uranus moves towards the final decan of Taurus it will conjunct the 1707 Act Taurus Sun in 2023 and square the Pluto Jupiter; with the Solar Arc Pluto Jupiter square the Moon (assuming 12am); with the Solar Arc Sun approaching an opposition to the Moon as well, exact in 2025. All of which looks like a major upheaval. Even before then there are major aggravations on this chart especially through 2018/19 as tr Pluto opposes the Mars and squares the Neptune.
Just before the mid-2020s the UK 1801 chart will have lived through a dramatic series of jolting changes as tr Uranus moving into the UK financial 8th has crossed the 8th house Mars, squared the 5th house Venus, opposed the 2nd house Neptune and tr Uranus is on its final hard aspect squaring the UK 11th house Saturn which rules the legislature. In 2024 the Solar Arc Uranus is conjunct the 8th house Mars, so it will be a time of radical upheaval. And as tr Pluto moves into Aquarius it is trine the UK Uranus and opposition the UK Jupiter, which will bring a definite shift into a different future.
At that point the devolved Scottish Parliament, 1 July 1999 12am Edinburgh, is moving through a challenging phase of transformation with tr Pluto conjunct the Solar Arc Midheaven, which could certainly indicate more powers; with great celebration from tr Uranus conjunct the Solar Arc Jupiter; though also a major amount of enraged frustration running into that period from tr Pluto opposing Mars in 2022/23; and a not altogether easy Solar Arc opposition Pluto in 2024 which could point to financial constraints.
Whether this means a federal UK with even looser ties to Scotland, Wales and NIreland or an outright fragmentation isn’t clear. But it certainly isn’t going to stay the same.
Any chance of checking out that last UK chart, that is the chart that saw Ireland leave the UK, around 1927?
”At the risk of becoming an ephemeris bore I have checked the 11th century to see what was happening in the run up to the Norman Conquest…”
No that’s quite interesting Hugh, not boring at all, so much so that I checked out Scottish history covering that time period and see that the Queen Elizabeth 11 (Elizabeth 1 in Scotland) bloodline goes back to King Malcolm III of Scotland who was born c. 1031, reigned (1058 – 1093).”
I wonder if forthcoming astrology aspects signify that this link is now coming to an end?

At the risk of becoming an ephemeris bore I have checked the 11th century to see what was happening in the run up to the Norman Conquest. The record shows Pluto ingresses into Aquarius in 1041 which was the year Edward the Confessor returned from exile in Normandy to become the heir to his half brother Harthacnut. The latter died in April 1042 and Edward became king almost precisely at the point of the Neptune ingresses into Aries in May 1042. Edward’s accession to the throne, his Norman upbringing and his failure to produce an heir set in train the series of events that would lead to the fall of the Anglo Saxon royal house of Wessex and its replacement by the Dukes of Normandy. Again the transition seems to fall at a deeply significant moment where a seemingly mundane event in the historical process kicks off changes that run very deep and last centuries. One final point it should be noted that however big the change Britain seems to always reset to old patterns. So while all the Norman and Angevin dynasties ruled for centuries by the end of the 13th century the kings of England were being titled Edward again.
Hugh, Thanks for that. Most illuminating,. It is extraordinary – maybe not – how countries do seem to resonate to particular outer planet returns.
As a quick addendum I have checked the ephemeris to see what was happening at the time the Roman province of Britain was created. It essentially began in 43 CE when Claudius army invaded. At that time Pluto was in Capricorn and Neptune was in Pisces. Rather spookily the conquest was essentially completed and made permanent for the next four centuries when the Boudiccan revolt was crushed between 60 and 61 CE. That was precisely the time that Pluto ingressed into Aquarius and Neptune into Aries. This transition does seem to echo down the centuries for the inhabitants of Britain.
Scots are looking through the wrong end of the telescope at the astrology here. If the past is anything to go by Pluto moving into Aquarius and Neptune into Aries in the 2020 signals some sort of transformation of English identity and its relation to the world if the 1530s is anything to go by since that is the last time it happened. Moreover it all be generated internally (ie the English nation will do it to themselves for good or ill). I can’t even guess what is going to happen but as in the 1530s what triggers the change (Henry VIII lack of a male heir from his Spanish wife) won’t necessarily be as significant as the changes it brings.
Hugh, I was looking very specifically at the astrology Scot/Eng Act of Union, which is after all the defining moment of the partnership and it is undoubtedly being thrown up in the air in some form or another as tr Pluto moves into Aquarius around 2024.
But interesting to see how 1530s played out. And next time round in the late 1770s the American colonies were lost which was seen as a considerable failure for the British empire, though it geared up and created a second empire elsewhere.
Marjorie. I agree. It is just that the Act of Union in 1707 involved two countries surrendering elements of their respective identities to create the United Kingdom not just one and its unraveling when it occurs will do exactly the same. I just think that history suggests it will be England that will see the more radical change as they seem to have invested more invested into the concept of a British identity than the Scots. That is perhaps not surprising in that the original idea of Britannia was conjured by the Romans to cover modern England and Wales not Caledonia. It is strange how geographical demarkations and names created by long dead Empire builders still haunt us thousands of years later
I would suggest that the 1707 Treaty of Union is not the only thing that binds Scotland to England. How about hundreds of years of cross border marriages and businesses and a shared history through two world wars. Scotland has provided several UK Prime Ministers and when the Government agreed to a referendum the majority of Scot’s decided that they were indeed bound to their neighbours, and I doubt the 1707 treaty was their motive. Unlike Spain/Catalonia Scotland will be free to go if/when the majority of people in Scotland decide it is what they want. I am a Unionist but a democrat first, isn’t is great that if the time comes it will be without one rubber bullet being fired.
You’ll find the majority of the English will be very sorry to see the breakup up of the Union but they will respect the decision and wish you well and then let you get on with it.
No Marjorie. The Scottish Government will hold another Independence Referendum before the end of 2018 and win. The UK will be over and out at that point in time.
The United Kingdom consists of TWO Kingdoms only, the Scottish Kingdom, more ancient, and the English Kingdom with Wales and the provinces of Northern Ireland, which they managed to subjugate unlike Scotland (shame). When Scotland leaves the United Kingdom will no longer exist.
The Scottish people are Sovereign in their own right (no divine right of Kings for them since the 14th century), as the English people are subject to the Monarchy / their Parliament.
As an example Queen Elizabeth11 in England is actually Queen Elizabeth 1 in Scotland (Elizabeth1 was Queen of England when Scotland was an Independent country with Mary Queen of Scots ruling over). Queen Elizabeth1 or 11 is NOT the Queen of Scotland but rather the Queen of Scots. In other words when a majority of Sovereign Scots (over 50%) no longer want her, a Monarchy, she / they are over and out. Not so in England. Queen Elizabeth1 Scotland (2nd in England) has in fact had to make a vow EVERY year to the Scots since her Coronation Day in 1953.
There is no written UK Constitution (highly unusual the world over). This has has suited Westminster up until now, helping them to rough-shed over Scotland, Wales and NIreland (their wee colonies as they see it), which will no doubt backfire on them in the very near future.
A 1707 Treaty of Union is the ONLY thing that binds Scotland to England. No written Constitution unlike Catalonia / Spain as an example. A Treaty that was enforced against the wishes of the VAST majority of Scots at that time. That Treaty is the only thing that connects one to the other and if a majority of Sovereign Scots, over 50%, want out of the Union, so be it. The Treaty will be binned.
The Scottish / Catalonia independence movements bear NO similarities whatsoever, in relation to Constitution or Sovereignty.
