The first ever oil strike – 28 August 1859 4pm Titusville, PA, USA.
It has an 8th house Sun Moon Mercury in practical, earthy Virgo and a Saturn Mars Venus in money-oriented Leo also in the 8th. So six planets in the deeply buried 8th house which has connections with business finance.
Neptune (the traditional ruler of oil) is in Pisces (ruled by Neptune) in the 3rd house of everyday travel which fits though Neptune isn’t especially strong in the chart. On the midpoints Neptune = Sun/Jupiter and Jupiter/Uranus both of which are lucky and successful. Pluto is on the IC which does suggest very Plutonic energies (wealth and power) coming from deep down. Pluto is semi sextile Uranus with Neptune aiming to semi-sextile Pluto in the years following.
The 1980 oil high has Neptune sextile Pluto with Uranus on their midpoint. 2008 has Neptune sextile Uranus with Pluto just past the square to Uranus. All three oil high charts have that odd challenging Mars Saturn in the 8th in Virgo so a pressure to make money in tight circumstances? Two of them have Jupiter in the 8th and the other has Jupiter in the 1st.
Above from an old post of 2011. No time for further research but anyone who is interested feel free to look over highs and lows since.

Transiting Pluto will square the above Pluto and trine its Uranus in the next two years. Some kind of explosion may happen, or even attack? Certainly there will be in depth conversations, Sun/Mercury conjunction in Virgo about oil prices wealth etc. As Pluto is on the IC with Scorpio on the MC – Pluto/oil/Money is very much in charge. Interesting to see the above Solar Saturn has transiting Pluto sitting on it right now. Posing a threat to leaderships or giving a commending leadership? Starmer’s Saturn is undergoing this same Pluto transit. Both his and Trump’s leadership is certainly being challenged about oil. Although, Pluto is in a very dominant position in the above Chart. Especially with Saturn its ruling planet, also in the 8th ruled by Pluto. I personally can’t see America giving up oil!
July 13 has a yod from Pluto, Neptune onto Venus which is oil charts Sun, Mercury also 8th. New moon next day 22 Cancer opposite Jan 2020 big bang.
Thanks Marjorie. Interested to see that Neptune in Pisces in the Oil Chart. Oil derivatives are essential for the manufacture of many medicines, medical equipment, and so on – and there’s Neptune in the ‘healing’ sign of Pisces. Neptune rules plastics too, curiously plastic (Neptune) is polluting the oceans and waterways of our world (also Neptune). Oil is required to manufacture smart phones, wind turbines, solar panels, and countless other things we all rely on. So while the oil industry will have to adapt, our global use of oil and petrochemicals isn’t going to cease anytime soon.
The Oil chart’s Uranus in Gemini is also fascinating, since it is due a return soonish. Inventive, adaptable, and maybe linked with Gemini travel and communications (smartphones, AI etc?) it is in the creative fifth house. Ruling the financial second. Potentially, there’ll be new ways to make money from oil and/or the eventual creation of something to replace it entirely? The connections with the USA’s founding Uranus in Gemini, plus the 1861 chart for the US Civil War, with its Neptune at 29 Pisces, and Uranus Return, suggest just how pivotal this moment in history might be. At its best, an opportunity for constructive invention and creativity (Saturn conjunct Neptune in energetic Aries?).
Sure, we rely on petrochemicals and fossil fuels, particularly for plastics, fibres, etc, and will continue to do so, but the global trend is moving increasingly away from its use and China leads the way on this, plus its investment in renewables is unprecedented. China is moving towards EVs which represent one third of all car sales in the country. In 2024, it installed over 360 GW of wind and solar capacity, roughly one third of the world’s total. Renewable sources (wind, solar, hydro) generated around one third of its electricity in 2025. While China still leads in terms of imports of crude oil, the nation dominates when it comes to solar power and controls over 80% of the world’s solar production capacity.
So slowly, very slowly things are changing. But Trump’s refusal to even contemplate renewables, his aversion to what he calls ‘windmills’ shows yet again how out-of-touch he is and how the USA will be left behind if he continues to dig his heels in on this issue.
One byproduct of Uranus’s ingress into Gemini last year was the explosion in independent media. For some time, many people have felt that the mainstream media fails to address the issues which affect them. This year, it will enter Gemini for the foreseeable. But we could well see technological advances under this placement as it makes its trine to Pluto in Aquarius.
Electric Uranus apparently ‘rules’ batteries, which are essential for storing solar energy. Much research is being done on this at the moment, since improvements in efficiency and safety are vital. I hope the link between Uranus and Pluto signals a leap forward for this work. Also, I wonder about the Nodes (associations, conduits, passageways) moving into Uranus’ home Aquarius this summer, and how that might feed into the inventive energy zeitgeist? Perhaps even some collaborations, some sense of benefiting everyone? I won’t hold my breath, but there could be possibilities?
It’ll also be interesting to see how Saturn, ruling coal, and Neptune, ruling oil, work out in Aries. Being optimistic, perhaps a new (Aries) and energetic (Mars) way of looking at this global issue?
Demand for oil has been on downward trend for the past few years. There is a reason why the Arab nations are trying to shift their economies for years. LNG demand has been rising due to the shift from coal burning to gas. The air looks clear and has no smell with LNG as fuel. But PM2. 5 is never really low.
Nuclear power plant and small modular reactors seem to be the trend moving forward but there are push back. USA is also one of the nuclear fuel rod producers countries.
Looking at this oil chart and the oil industry in general, its is very clear that oil is on a downward spiral. Middle East itself being one of the leaders of oil supply in the world, will never be the same again. It is not going to go back to where it was before the Iran war. Higher oil prices are definitely going to push consumers around the world to switch to electric vehicles, it is already happening now, more countries are looking at alternatives. We all know very well that Trump is a fan of fossil fuels, not electric vehicles. Economies around the world will be forced to transform at a rapid pace, EV’s are going to be adopted at a faster pace than previously expected.
Thank you, Marjorie. I notice that Chiron is conjunct Eris and today it is exact. At 25 Aries, it conjuncts the Solar Arc Midheaven and opposed the Solar Arc Pluto at 25 Libra. The coming eclipse in August at 20 Leo hits the natal Oil chart’s Saturn/Mars/South Node.
The challenge of Pluto in Libra is dealing with codependency and imbalances in relationships. In the late 1970s this was felt in the wake of the 1973 oil crisis. The safest way to deal with the threat of conflict in the Middle East is for the rest of the world to move beyond their dependency on oil and gas from the region. It would appear only discord and pain is going to make people accept this change. It is a lesson that should have been learned over 50 years ago.
