Madonna – forced to face old father time

Old age is catching up with Madonna as she collapsed on stage in Paris due to crippling knee and hip injuries. She has been forced to cancel 14 shows recently with eight shows left out of her 79 tour dates which started on September 17, 2019, in New York City, and is set to conclude on March 11, in Paris.

Let no one tell you exercise is good for you – go talk to old dancers and athletes. Hip and knee replacements are almost mandatory as they wear out from over-use.

She was born 16 August 1958 with an unverified time of 7.05am in Bay City, Michigan. She’s a Sun Leo so needs an audience and with her Mars in super-determined Taurus in a high-octane square to both Uranus and her Sun, she’s not designed for the quiet life. She needs to live on the edge in an adrenaline rush.

Tr Uranus is moving to square her Uranus in 2021 which is one of those generational markers which indicates it’s time for a rethink and revisioning of life for the future. Since her Uranus is connected into her Mars it will have a feel of what’s to follow with tr Uranus conjunct her Mars in 2022 which will make her insecure and tend to act recklessly to prop up her self-esteem. That 2022 Uranus Mars influence can also be associated with operations. Though I’d imagine she’s already had a few of those.

Tr Neptune will square her Saturn from late this March on and off till early 2021 which will be dispiriting and anxiety-provoking. But she’s not one to give in easily and in 2021/22 she also has tr Pluto square her Jupiter which will rev up her engine and confidence. With a successful Solar Arc Sun conjunct her Jupiter in 2023; though there’s a blocked Solar Arc Saturn opposition her Sun in 2024.

Whatever happens she won’t hang up her dancing shoes and go quietly into a backwater without a fight.

I’m not sure I buy that time of birth – doesn’t look as flamboyantly crass as she is and was.

  1. I like Madonna more and more as she ages, she is a year younger than me and in lieu of being a sex symbol is now totally eccentric and fruit loopy. I really like it.

  2. Michael Flatley of Riverdance fame, with a Guinness World Record for tap dancing 35 times per second, retired in 2016 due to constant spinal, knee, foot, and rib pain.
In 2015, he revealed that much of his vertebral column was irreparably damaged and that he had a damaged left knee, a torn right calf/triceps surae muscle, two ruptured Achilles tendons, a fractured rib, and a recurring broken bone in his foot.

  3. We all get wear and tear, at some point. As for Madonna, I think she might have a similar projectory as Carla Fracci. A Leo Sun dancer who is still somewhat active at 83, but is more of an art director nowadays. Madonna took such a control of her own image from early on in the 1980’s, when there truly weren’t role models for this in pop music. I was 8 when I first saw “Like A Virgin” music video, and still can remember where and with who I was. Basically all her videos in the 1980’s had tremendous impact not just to my but all my girl and queer friends’ sense of esthetics. And since many of my friends now work in visual arts field, I’d say there probably isn’t a female or queer artist in their 40’s in The World who isn’t somehow influenced by her. It’s very difficult to imagine this kind of power nowadays, but I guess general K-Pop esthetics might amount to something similar.

    • I think, yes at the time she was a pioneer in the sense of being in control of her own image as a female artist so that Pluto/Mercury conjunct the ascendant in Virgo would make sense in that respect. There’s a lot of pressure, I would imagine for ageing artists to continue to meet the expectations of their fans and we saw the terrible outcome for great artists such as Prince, with the use of opiate painkillers, etc.

      • This is true. There is also the kind of second “Ray of Light” era. This was after she had that Pluto square from early Sagittarius and went off to do Evita for a bit, where she was finally required to learn how to sing! Compare video and rather pedestrian vocal in the pre-Evita “Take a Bow” to the vocals in “Ray of Light”; the transformation was incredible.

        • Yes, I loved “Ray of Light” album. Although she still can’t carry a tune, as shown by her visually magnificent ESC (Eurovision Song Contest for those in The US) performance in Tel Aviv last year.

          • She was as good as she could be vocally after Evita, but she was never going to be in someone like Lady Gaga’s league on that front. She may have been in a lot of pain during Eurovision. We all have our limits

  4. Obviously Madonna’s name appears to resonate with a Virgo Asc. Just found out that her mother (Moon conjunct Virgo Asc.) was also named Madonna. When her mother died, Madonna was 5 years old, SA Pluto was sandwiched between natal Mercury (10th house ruler) and her Virgo Ascendant. With Pluto on the Asc., maybe she is more likely to create a masked persona which has gone through numerous transformations.

If she has Virgo Asc., Saturn rules her Cap. fifth house, it is placed in Sagittarius, and she has adopted four children from overseas. Jupiter is the dispositor and is conjunct Neptune which is said to be highly idealistic and compassionate.

  5. I can see a case for the birth time being correct. It puts Mercury retrograde in Virgo on the ascendant, explaining the chameleon like nature of her image and the changes of direction. Lady Gaga, who also likes to play around with her image, also has a Mercury retrograde ruling the ascendant. I also know plenty of dancers with a busy 12th house too.

  6. The hip and knee injuries are so well described by Saturn in Sagittarius, with Sagittarius ruling the hips and Saturn associated (through Capricorn I think) with the knees. You’re quite right about excessive exercise – I know two former professional gymnasts who are suffering the results of an over-exercised youth. One has now had both hips replaced before the age of 60. The other is struggling in her late forties. There are many similar tales from other athletes, as you say.

Not sure about the Virgo ascendant either. Although there are so many Virgo entertainers and movie stars. And Madonna has frequently changed her public persona, which would fit with a Mercurial influence. And Virgo can be very much interested in style too.

  7. I wonder if she’s a Leo Ascendant; that would give a me-me-me Leo Sun/Uranus in the 1st house. Sun/Uranus people I have known will not be told and will rush headlong into taking unwise decisions which often result in self-undoing.

‘Let no one tell you exercise is good for you’

As a languid Libran I can’t tell you how much this cheered me, Marjorie!

  8. Yes, Madonna has never struck me as being a demure, modest Virgo Asc. (with Moon and Mercury in Virgo conjunct it). Possibly Scorpio Asc. instead.

I agree about her foolish physical antics at this hour of her life. It’s like she can’t accept that she’s ageing nor the fact that it’s more prudent to slow down at her age. Once most people hit their 60s, the body loses strength and the cells simply don’t recover as quickly as it once did.

Given Madonna’s long and intensive dancing history, and her restrictive eating regimens over the decades, I actually wouldn’t be surprised if she had some arthritis or osteoporosis at this point.
