India and China – a high-altitude skirmish

Chinese and Indian soldiers were literally at each other’s throats in a confrontation in a largely uninhabited, disputed Himalayan border area between Tibet and Ladakh. Both have accused the other of provoking fighting in which at least 20 Indian soldiers were killed after a brawl with sticks, bats, rocks and bamboo sticks studded with nails. No shots were fired. The injured were exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the high-altitude terrain. The risk is that a minor spat will escalate to a major confrontation between two nuclear nations.

It is the first deadly clash between the two sides in the disputed Kashmir region since the 1962 Sino-India month-long war broke out, spurred to some extent by tensions building after the 1959 Chinese invasion of Tibet which resulted in the Dalai Lama fleeing to India.

The 1962 war occurred when the aggravated, military Mars in Leo opposition Saturn in Aquarius fell close to the Leo North Node squaring onto Neptune in Scorpio; with an opportunistic and pushily-confident Jupiter opposition Uranus Pluto also in place.

The previous Eclipses were pointers, especially the August 1962 Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius which was almost exactly opposition the India Leo Sun; and set for Delhi had Mars on the Ascendant and Jupiter on the Midheaven with Pluto Mercury Uranus conjunct the IC.

This time round the June Cancer Solar Eclipse (this Sunday) is conjunct the India Mars which was always going to set off a volcanic argument (see post 19th May 2020). And the early June 2020 Lunar Eclipse set for Delhi has Mars conjunct the Descendant and the North Node New Moon on the Midheaven, so it does make India an inflammatory zone.. But that could also be coronavirus/economic-related with this being an unwanted distraction on the side. There aren’t the same aggravations showing on the India/China 1912 relationship chart as there were in 1962 when tr Pluto was square the composite Mars – which is more typical of brutality and a military conflict.  Although there are hints this year of a diplomatic chill and some tensions flaring late year there is nothing quite as stark.

The India 1947 chart points to a struggle with disturbingly high CV-19 rates and deaths and the consequent economic hit with the Solar Arc Moon conjunct Neptune hinting at a panicky and undermined populace. The December Sagittarius Eclipse will fall on the cusp of the India 8th house opposition the Uranus – so there may be financial upsets.

The China 1912 chart is, if anything, in an even more turbulent state with a second Beijing CV-19 wave being described as “serious”. The central disaster-prone China Uranus opposition Neptune is being triggered this year by a jolting Solar Arc Sun square the Uranus; as well as a long run of punishing Pluto hard aspects. Tr Pluto is opposition the China Neptune bringing confusion and devastation, repeating from earlier this year in late August to late November, and continuing on through catastrophic hard aspects to the midpoint in 2021 till it hits the total-upheaval conjunction to the Uranus in 2022/23. I would not be surprised if there was an earthquake or some other natural calamity along the way as well as the pandemic.

The December Sagittarius Eclipse will oppose the China Pluto for a change-or-decay fork in the road and conjunct the China Mercury for arguments and a forced rethink of plans. It’s likely to bring outbursts and more dogmatism from the Chinese government.

  1. Marjorie,

I know it is slightly off-topic, but the thought came to me after watching a documentary on Hong Kong.

What role, if any, do you see of Hong Kong in China’s future? How do the Hong Kong and China charts interact?

Another astrologer sees Hong Kong coming back to Britain (metaphorically I presume, as in an influx of HongKongers to the UK).

  2. All incidents are happening and brewing for a big events to take place one after another. Yes chances of earthquakes within 7 days after 20th June 2020.
China will be divided into 5 separate countries. Very bad time is coming for China.

    • The “five countries” part is easy to see; Tibet, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and possibly Manchuria in addition to core China.

Is there any particular area of China that is particularly susceptible to earthquakes?

      • Hi UnmysticMom – China is very susceptible to earthquakes. The last big one was in Sichuan in 2008.
The path of this Solstice eclipse passes through northern India and down into China. Sometimes earthquakes seem to coincide (within a week or so) with an eclipse, along it’s path. Although this theory still needs much testing I think. Anyway, here’s the NASA eclipse stuff – with interactive map!

          • Thanks Marjorie. I’ve been curious about this for a while. The devastating Izmit earthquake in Turkey happened right on the total solar eclipse path, on 17th August 1999. The eclipse was on 11th August. In general, I think the mechanics of an eclipse may affect the weather, and perhaps the tectonic plates as well. It seems logical. For now, I hope nothing horrible happens, but fear (in general) this is futile!

    • will these 5 pieces fall apart like a cookie? it’s hard for me to see what would trigger such a spinoff reaction, esp with Taiwan and HK so troublesome.

  3. China has been bullying it’s neighbouring Asian for a number of years now (thinking of Vietnam, Philippines, Taiwan, Japan and more recently Australia) .. I see this incident as a continuation of that pattern.

Long term though, China sees India as a country that could easily thwart its hegemonic ambitions over Asia and very much an economic and military rival, perhaps one of the reasons why China’s subtle belt and road program and port building in the Indian Ocean are trying to box India in.

India’s great advantage is that it it a vibrant if flawed democracy in stark contrast to Xi’s China.
It would be good to know what astrology is telling us for the future relationship between India and China and will India and USA come to some sort of “entente cordial” or even eventually join the Anglophone 5-eyes security arrangement?

    • Wiki describes the country as Repubic – which is very different from a democracy. It is also home to almost 500 languages; therein could be one non-astrological source of irritation.

      • Most of the world does not make the American distinction between a republic and a democracy.

A republic is a form of government which is not a monarchy. And that can range from the DRC and Rwanda to India to China, North Korea and the United States (and exclude Australia and Canada, for instance).

A democracy is a nation where people can determine, generally through periodic elections, who would exercise power and authority over them.

The two are not mutually exclusive. India is a democratic republic, just as the US is. Canada is a democratic constitutional monarchy.

Re the number of languages, India has 22 (I think, not sure) official languages and 1562 recognised dialects.
