The EU has moved into paralysis zone with the not-unexpected Trump withdrawal from Ukraine support. The Solar Arc Pluto has now moved onto the exact degree in opposition to the EU 8th house Moon and square Uranus and will stay in effect throughout 2025. Blocked, stuck, in turmoil as it faces the cost of filling the gap left by USA finances and weaponry.
Tr Uranus square the 12th house EU Pluto from mid 2026 onwards into 2027 at the same time as a devastating financial meltdown from tr Pluto square the 2nd house Neptune in 2026/27 suggest that dither and indecision amidst great confusion are more likely than incisive decisions and action in the time ahead.
Both Ukraine charts – 24 August 1991 2.31pm Kiev and 22 January 1918 9.54pm Khrakov, are facing an uphill struggle ahead. The 1918 chart has tr Pluto conjunct its Aquarius Sun this year and moving on to oppose the Neptune Saturn from 2026 onwards. Plus their Cardinal T square of Pluto opposition Mercury square Mars is feeling the brunt of the tr Saturn Neptune hard aspects from mid 2025 on for several years, suggesting disappointment and losses.
The Ukraine 1991 chart is depressed and discouraged this year with tr Pluto conjunct the Saturn; jangled with tr Uranus square the Sun from mid 2025 into 2026; and mired in confusion in 2026 with Solar Arc Neptune square Pluto.
President Zelenzky, 25 January 1978 2pm Krivoj Rog, has an exact Solar Arc Saturn conjunct his Pluto now and through 2025 which suggests an insurmountable obstacle. Plus an undermining tr Neptune Saturn in late Pisces squaring his Jupiter denting his hopes; and tr Pluto continuing the long haul round his Mars in Leo opposition Sun Venus in Aquarius which has been putting him under immense pressure for the past two years and won’t give up until late 2027. Plus a jolting tr Uranus square his Saturn on and off till April 2026.
His Term chart 20 May 2019 10 am which started in a late Taurus Sun, Mercury, Algol will catch the unsettling destabilizing tr Uranus conjunction to those planets through this year as well from May onwards into 2026.
Of the other former Soviet satellite countries the start dates and times are not always certain. To a degree all look unsettled in the immediate few years especially Estonia and Bulgaria, Poland. But that could be for many different reasons.
The two Russia charts – 8 November 1917 2.12am Leningrad and 8 December 1991 7.45pm Moscow – both point to 2027 as a devastating time of confusion, indecision and meltdown. So I doubt it will be strutting around in domineering mood.
Any thoughts on Ursula van der Leyden?
How does one interpret the Euro (as a currency) in a mundane chart, especially in this case which is a incorporation of multiple nations? Which house would signify the euro? Which planet-Maybe Venus because wealth, but also Mercury because its a medium of exchange?
It’s the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Crimea today – 20th February 2014. The Ukraine Invasion was declared on 23 February, 2022. Someone, somewhere amidst this insanity may take the time to pause for thought….
I noticed that the approaching March Aries Solar Eclipse, 9 Aries, connects with:
Crimea, 2014 – Uranus 10 Aries square Jupiter 10 Cancer, Pluto 12 Capricorn
Crimean War, ending 1856: Sun 10 Aries
Ukraine 1991: Uranus 10 Capricorn, BML 10 Capricorn
Russia 1462: Sun 7 Aries, MC 5 Aries
End of the Cold War, 9th November 1989: Jupiter 10 Cancer, Saturn/Neptune 10 Capricorn
Treaty of Rome, March 1957: Mercury 9 Aries
I think it may be significant that the Aries eclipse is conjunct the transiting Jupiter/Pluto midpoint. It suggests power of every shade, and perhaps shadowy moves behind the scenes with Pluto’s ‘underworld’ or espionage symbolism?
What’s very interesting to read now is Marjorie’s post from 16 September, 2023. It includes this:
“Zelensky’s Swearing In chart, 20 May 2019 will face its/his greatest challenging in 2025 with tr Uranus conjunct the Sun and tr Neptune square the Mars as well as tr Saturn square the Jupiter. Though he will be beyond exhausted and that may coincide with a Winston Churchill type departure to recharge his batteries.”
Jane, NATO (4/4/1949) too has Venus and Mars at 11 and 10 of Aries respectively.
Thanks VF – it’s all beginning to look even more meaningful than I’d imagined, across a broader spectrum. Worth noting that Venus turns Rx at 10 Aries on 2nd March, while Mercury turns Rx at 9 Aries on 15 March, one day after the Lunar Eclipse. A literal turning point perhaps? We appear to be experiencing the effects of these eclipses now.
Also I’d noticed these points from charts in the Book of World Horoscopes –
Russia End Monarchy, March 1917 – MC 9 Aries, while Sun 25 Pisces and Mars 21 Pisces are energised by the March Lunar Eclipse at 23 Virgo
Russian Federative Republic, 12 June, 1990 – Mars 8 Aries, Asc 26 Virgo, Sun 21 Gemini
“I think it may be significant that the Aries eclipse is conjunct the transiting Jupiter/Pluto midpoint. It suggests power of every shade, and perhaps shadowy moves behind the scenes with Pluto’s ‘underworld’ or espionage symbolism?”
Jane, this is a brilliant observation. I’ve often thought about suggesting Marjorie to have a look at Kyrylo Budanov, the Head of Ukraine’s Intelligence, born January 4th 1986 in then Kiev.
Budanov is behind and subject of countless memes, and most likely started the FAFO shiba bog Fella Army on Twitter/X and Bluesky, but also has the ruthlessness of a Cold War era spymaster.
Thanks Solaia! And thanks for your amazing in-depth knowledge too. Someone ‘ruthless’ like Budanov could be a key figure now as you suggest. I’ve been thinking generally about how all the chaos and noise generated by the US is a perfect distraction for all manner of moves to take place out of sight.
I’ve had odd feelings about the Virgo Lunar Eclipse this spring. Not anxiety, just something tapping away. I begin to see why, after a bit more digging into it. The combination of Aries and Virgo we’re seeing in March crops up in October 1967 with Saturn 9 Aries (our March Solar) and Uranus 25 Virgo (close to our March Lunar). Early November 1967 was the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. In March 1968 there was a Solar Eclipse at 8 Aries, and a full Moon, 24 Virgo. In August, the Russians invaded Czechoslovakia. Uranus 27 Virgo, Pluto 21 Virgo, Saturn 25 Aries by then.
The fixed star Alkaid or Benetnash is at 26 Virgo in Ursa Major, the Great She Bear. It aligned with Uranus when Russia invaded Czechoslovakia. These stars move around the North Pole, and have been considered meaningful and sacred since very ancient times, across numerous cultures. Constellations Ursa Minor and Draco, the Dragon complete the picture.
Elsbeth Ebertin has this to say about Alkaid:
“In accordance with adopted belief of ancient times, this fixed star is supposed to be bound up with the realm of the dead and is therefore associated with death and mourning. In an important position in a mundane map, Benetnash will claim human lives in calamities such as mine accidents, collapse of houses and bridges, mountain slides, earth tremors and catastrophes caused by weather”
Alkaid has also been called ‘the destroyer of nations’ by ancient Arabic astrologers.
It’s curious that Russia is sometimes symbolised by a bear, while China has the dragon as a persistent symbol.
Alkaid aligns with our March Lunar Eclipse. Mars will re-energise those degrees in late July and early August. Mercury turns direct at 26 Pisces in April, Venus Direct on 13th April at 24 Pisces, opposing those sensitive degrees. Their job this Spring seems to be to point out the eclipses, since they both turn retrograde in March at the degree of the Aries Solar Eclipse. This could signal some chance for negotiations and talks perhaps? The Great She-Bear represents life as well as the realms of the dead, so we can only hope.
Also at some point the UK media will have to acknowledge Russian involvement in the EU referendum. Polls now show a majority want back in. This could be the legacy Trump ends up leaving on the UK and if the USA pulls back from NATO it will be France and the UK who join forces to run the show as the European Nuclear powerhouse. So for those who want Brexit reversed we could be heading towards it
We’re never going back to the EU.
We’ve spent the net contribution of £15bn per annum we used to pay the EU, on junior doctors’ payrises of 22%, as promised in the referendum. So Brexit achieved it’s primary goal.
Any politician campaigning on cutting doctors pay so we can rejoin the EU and send money to them instead, will be dead in the water.
Plus there are all the new trade-deals that Britain has that the EU doesn’t (Australia, CPTPP). Plus the trade deal with the EU is working adequately – we can check the meat coming in from the EU for the first time in 49 years, and the inspectors have found all sorts of horrors.
Above all, Parliament loves having the power to make UK-specific decisions. Labour never thought they’d enjoy it so much till they got into govt, now they’re converts. 🙂
Candy, as Marjorie’s much previous readings suggest, EU might collapse, but maybe give start to something new? NATO will most likely be gone in its’ current iteration through if not by an official breakup, then by the US defunding of the Institution nobody in Washington seems to counter.
It’s really disingenuous to allocate money in that specific fashion Candy. How many extra NHS beds could we have paid for if it wasn’t for all the economic loss we’ve had since we’ve been outside the EU, having to pay for barriers to our own trade, higher businesses costs, delays at borders, extra checks, etc? We are a poorer country as a result and most people see it now. I do agree that it’s unlikely we rejoin again, particularly since the PM tells us on a regular basis that it will be over his dead body so to speak..but after all of this the EU may not survive but we may be a key part of whatever comes after..the astrology is bonkers for the next few years, who knows.
I think we might be on the verge of a wake up call in the UK into how the media sleepwalked into this. Since Brexit 90% of the media have courted at times far right rhetoric. The chickens are now coming home to roost. The past 24 hours has seen pretty much all the media in the UK apart from the few oddballs at GBNews slam Trump and voice deep concern over what this means for Putin’s further expansion into Europe. Its like they actually opened their eyes and realised what they help cause. Sadly the UK needs to also now accept America under Musk, Vance and Trump is no friend of the UK, if anything they are now an active enemy. If I was Starmer I would be debating whether to even meet Trump next week as their press conference afterwards is surely going to be a disaster, unless Starmer knows this and thinks standing next to a raving lunatic goading him will make him look Thatcherite.
Unfortunately I think the media who helped created the Brexit mess – and the Conservative mess – of the UK are not sleepwalking, they are wide awake and know their agenda only too well. They are the ones who will criticise Starmer no matter what he does. They don’t have the greater good in mind, and are likely to support a lot of what Trump does, as it’s a similar agenda to Reform. Papers like the Daily Mail have always been fascist-friendly.
What would be much more interesting to know is the extent of Russian influence over not only Brexit, but the Conservative party, and various other major UK institutions. I think you will find the rot runs very deep indeed, and Reform are now attempting to reap the benefits.
I wonder how all this will manifest in April, once the planetary pileup moves out of Pisces and into Aries, and Mars finally marches forward into Leo.
I think the press are congenitally mischiefmakers. And while the Daily Mail might have been fascist in the 1930s, the newspaper of today likes to straddle a narrow fence of one day being centre-left and the next being centre-right. As for Brexit, it was less about which political party that was supported, but more about being a sovereign nation. Something that neither the Conservatives or Labour seemed able to come to terms with at all.it is much easier to have the EU give out its diktats, and vote it through in Parliament, without having to really think about it. Which even after Brexit, they voted to accept the remaining laws, I think there was 88,000 of them into British law, without any scrutiny whatsoever. I suppose to make it easier for when we all come to our senses and beg and grovel for the EU to take us back into the fold, with very likely an awful deal, that Parliament will lap up, just like the good little lap dogs they long to be.
Dear Hugh, your last sentence sparked thoughts of the uncanny parallels between these days and the late nineteen-thirties.
A nation enfeebled and bitter after 15 years of austerity policies, ruled by a government with a huge majority in whom the populace at large had little or no confidence facing an opposition in disarray. They faced a menacing, popular, well-armed dictator who was determined restore his country’s former glory by swallowing up his neighbours.
In the wings was an eccentric voice in the wilderness, whom everybody distrusted because of his proven incompetence and outlandish behaviour, proclaiming in the Daily xxx the danger of not standing up to the mad dictator to a populace who had a nagging foreboding of war, which they wished to avoid at all costs. Whilst aided and abetted by the Daily xxx, he lacerated the government for running down our defences because the need to balance the books. He had a way with words, which he used to satisfy his craving for the good things in life; so as soon as the money appeared in his account, it evaporated.
All of this was not helped by an isolationist great Republic determined not to become embroiled in another war caused by wily Europeans – especially as these Europeans kept pawing at God’s Own Country’s wallet. This was exacerbated by a quarrels over the protectionist policies of the great Republic. This people seem to be unaware of the menace to the Republic by regimes in the East and the West determined to up end the great Republic’s well ordered world to gain their place in the sun.
Add to the mix an embittered Hose of Windsor with two errant princes, one of whom was in exile, whilst the other should have been.
As Mark Twain remarked history never repeats itself, but it rhymes.
Excellent post.
This was intended as a comment on Hugh fowler’s quote ‘Pluto Saturn square and a Pluto Mars square in 2028. The last time such a set up occurred was 1940’ below
In the bolshevik revolution astrology chart (8th Nov 1917), the Sun was at 14 Scorpio 46. When the Berlin wall fell on 9th Nov 1989 and triggered the collapse of the Soviet Union, tr Pluto was at 15 Scorpio 10 (tr Sun was at 16 Scorpio 33 and tr Mercury was at 15 Scorpio 29.
So it’s not a good sign that Ukraine’s 1918 chart will have tr Pluto conjuncting it’s Sun.
Regarding Russia, the oldest chart is for 24th Sept 862, 12:01 p.m. Novgorod. It works quite well because during the revolution of 1918, tr Pluto was at 6 Cancer 28, conjunct the Novgorod chart’s natal Moon at 5 Cancer 35. That’s a people-driven transformation, isn’t it?
Anyway, the Novgorod chart is experiencing it’s Jupiter return, and the natal Sun at 1 Libra 17 is starting to experience opposition from tr Neptune, and soon tr Saturn.
Kyiv was founded on 8th May 882 at 6:50 a.m. This chart also works for Ukraine. During the Bolshevik revolution, tr Pluto at 6 Cancer 28 had recently crossed the ascendant at 3 Cancer 4. On the invasion of ukraine on 24th Feb 2022, tr Pluto at 27 Cap 28 was conjunct the natal Mars at 25 Cap 08.
Anyway, the 882 Kyiv chart currently has tr Uranus conjunct the natal Sun-Saturn conjunction. Will they get relief when Uranus moves on? This seems like a better chart for then than the short-lived 1918 chart.
“Anyway, the 882 Kyiv chart currently has tr Uranus conjunct the natal Sun-Saturn conjunction. Will they get relief when Uranus moves on? This seems like a better chart for then than the short-lived 1918 chart.”
1918 chart is problematic in that the communist Ukraine was “absorbed” by the Soviet Union on foundation. Therefore, I don’t rate this being on a par with Baltic State charts. Baltic States were recognized internationally and made peace deals with Bosheviks in 1920, and had 20 years of independence before WWII.
Something feels wrong and off about Macron to me. I’m a fellow Sag and universally like other Sag. But not him. Hope I’m wrong about him.
@Amelia, he is a critical degree Sun/Mercury in Sadgittarius with a busy chart, so tr. Neptune square isn’t helping him. He will always come off slimy, and I wouldn’t probably want to be friends with him. But he is also the most strategic and least risk averse politician we have at the international stage right now.
Solaia-thanks. I’m also sag mercury. I like having this placement. I’m second decan, though. It’s square my earth moon which makes it unlikely I’m slimy -I hope. :).
@Amelia Pettyfor, it’s the critical degree. Macron is a Taurus Moon square Leo Mars, BTW
@Solaia
Macron is a third decan Sagittarius, ruled by the Sun, he takes risks and is a good negotiator.
The problem with Britain is that the right have spent too much time going on the ”woke war” to really focus on the danger right in front of them. Sadly for all the Trump cheerleaders though its quite clear that he, his entire team and Putin too are all set for an absolutely dire 2026/2027. So we just need to ride the next 12 months out because its pretty clear from all the charts we have that Trump, Musk and Putin are done for in 2026.
You give me a little hope. I am truly frightened by what has been said and done by Trump & his administration, and deeply fearful of what the consequences will be for us all.
I’m wondering, should I start an Excel on who has what influences when, because it certainly seems ALL the power are extremely unhappy for most of the 2020’s?
That said, Finnish President Stubb gave a presser after participating to a France led meeting that this time involved Baltics, Romania, Czechia and other participants ommitted, much to Italy’s Meloni’s annoyance, from the first Weimar8 meeting. Apparently, all European countries have now agreed Macron guides the process of getting European countries to Ukraine negotiations, and will continue engaging with Trump. Personally, I think this may be a good thing, since Macron, of all leaders, seem to deal with Trump’s narcissism the best.
Another interesting tidbit from Stubb: Apparently, behind what Trump says and does, there’s a lot of “hidden” disagreement in Washington. For instance, Stubb, who studied on a golf scholarship at Furham University in South Carolina, has very close relationships with several Republican US Senators. It is often his blind spot, but I would argue that maybe of all European leaders, he has the best insight on how Washington political ecosystem works.
And no, I won’t expect any of the Republican senators to push back on Ukraine in the near future. But what this does is to give a little bit more weight to Hegseth’s and Vance’s words on abandoning NATO not being in the playbook right now. The US Military-Industrial complex definitely would like selling all the F-35s they can to Europe, rather than India.
Without US involvement I think there is a real possibility that eastern and central Europe will gravitate back towards Russia over time not least because it maybe in their economic interests. Germany will be keen to restore its access to Russian natural gas. As a consequence Europe may fracture along pre Second World War fault lines. The fact Starmer and Macron’s attempts to cobble together a military peacekeeping force to put into the Ukraine got such a poor reception from Poland and the government in Berlin indicates this may already be happening. Although Europe can easily outspend Russia militarily I don’t think it has the political will and unity to do so.
But Poland and the Baltic states are the loudest critics of Russia – so I very much doubt they are going to roll over easily in the face of Putin (or Trump) threats.
@Ken, yes, I think people in countries which haven’t been in direct conflict and/or occupied by Russians/Soviets realize how much we loath them. Hungary may seem an exeception, but the messaging Orbán has blasted to rural areas where his base is is very different than what we see here. People in Budapest knowing a foreign language or two have such a different access to information.
It is still the case that the likes of Poland did not support Macron or Starmer’s idea to put a European peace keeping force in the Ukraine so clearly they want to avoid the possibility of direct military confrontation at the moment.I personally agree with their caution as Starmer appears to be offering to sign military cheques that he can’t honour.
@Hugh Fowler, there has been considerable consolidation on the issue within the last 48 hours, and especially since Trump called Zelenskyy a dictator. It seems it’s finally hitting political leaders on the right that this not Reagan’s US they are dealing with. Trump is a deranged narcissist (assessment of his own niece) and in decline, and unlike the first time around, there are no adults (Mattis, Esper…) in the room. He is “advised” by dark forces.
Starmer and Macron are flying to Washington next week, with a plan. The disagreement between Poland and you are discussing is mainly on modalities of help they can give to Ukraine. Different countries have different strengths. Most importantly, Russian Airforce is and won’t be a match for France OR the UK separately, not to speak together.
There are a collective 400,000 soldiers (domestic and foreign) in the Baltic states, and 900,000 regulars and reservists in Finland who would love a pop at Russia. Having lost 66% of his entire tank fleet, his Black Sea Fleet, and a million men dead or wounded, I very much doubt even Putin is dumb enough to have a pop at the Baltics or Poland. But you never know. The resistance they faced in Ukraine would be like a cakewalk in comparison.
@Hugh Fowler, with all due respect, I think many Brits have been too engaging in the political games back home to really look at what has happened in Europe in the last year or so. For instance, the Baltic states just got fully disconnected from the Russian electric grid a couple of weeks ago. The US has been pushing to their gas imports to Europe. Now, it seems these might be freezed due to a trade war, but guess who else has gas? Their friendly neighbors in North, as well as some South American nations that might be more than elated to negotiate bilateral deals.
The whole energy discourse that Russia has been pushing in their negotiations reveals their weakness: Germany, in particular, has been pushing green energy, and producing several forms of renewable energy is already more profitable than relying on fossil energy. Russians specifically mentioned Arctic hydrocarbon Rosneft had a development project with Exxon in the 2010’s. The things is, that even if Trump gave an executive order allowing Arctic drilling Alaska, companies are not jumping in. They simply don’t have business cases where this type of activity would still be profitable in 5 or 10 years.
I absolutely agree that Eastern European nations have much more direct experience of dealing with Russia. That is precisely why they probably won’t want their terms of political and military engagement dictated by the likes of France and the UK who essentially have less skin in the game. The Treaty of Rome chart has some challenging astrology at the moment so we will have to wait to see if the EU can come up with a meaningful response. I am not particularly hopeful. With regard to renewable energy replacing fossil fuels the experience of the U.K. which has invested heavily in that area suggests it is not happening anytime soon.
In fact astoundingly the Blair institute has today called a day on net zero in a report saying it will not benefit the UK. a huge shift
@AG, I remember the discussion here in Finland when Sanna Marin accepted a position with Blair Institute. They are essentially lobbyists, so their reports will be affected by who ever orders them. (Marin BTW is herself VERY “green”, so let’s see how long she sticks, even if her work is mostly on equality and yes, Ukraine).
My two cents on why Britain is underperforming is that you don’t have significant hydropower production, only around 5 Twh compared to 135 Twh of Norway and 66 Twh of Sweden. But the wind turbines are getting better abd better, as is the energy transportation.
@Hugh: As a side bar, Trump’s plans and decisions seem too well planned. He’s had a lot of time to choreograph the Ukraine abandonement. American public will willingly eat, drink, and breathe whatever he proclaims, so I do not expect any voter pushback. At this time.
My cousin (and his wife) are born-again, and God told them both…in their dreams…that Trump will be the savior of the US. Not certain how to incorporate that into any flavor of reality…my cousin is a full-tilt reserve Marine officer, talks all the time about “the invasion across the southern border.” He stopped writing to me about a month ago; we had a falling out over “God’s word”. That’ll be another hurdle for America to overcome: religion.
I think the very fact the Trump administration came out of the blocks so quickly in his second term indicates that they were better prepared this time. Trump himself will always be a chaotic leader much like Johnson was in the UK but his team do seem to have much more prepared agenda this time which suggests there have at least been some attempt to focus policy this time. Personally I think Europeans are deluding themselves if they think the situation is going to change radically if Trump disappears. The Biden administration was also extremely reluctant to get military involved in the Ukraine and I don’t think any future US government is going to reverse the shift in its military and diplomatic priorities with regard to Europe even if they adopt more restrained language.
Astrologically I am worried about the British governments stance because the England 1066 and 1801 charts Mars are being activated by the Pluto Saturn square and a Pluto Mars square in 2028. The last time such a set up occurred was 1940
yes a period of decline under major topped by the black wed currency crisis was the last pluto mars sq period but i seriously doubt starmer or his ilk will last that long.
