Andy Burnham won by a surprisingly large margin for Labour in the Makersfield bye-election with Reform firmly put in their place and Restore nowhere. While the SNP lost in Aberdeen South to the Tories, mainly as a vote against Net Zero killing off the oil industry and the Murrell fraud scandal. UK politics continues to stumble along a winding path.
Burnham, 7 January 1970 Liverpool, England, is a New Moon conjunct Venus in earthy and ambitious Capricorn sextile a softly-softly Mars in Pisces and in a radical, progressive square to Uranus; with Mercury also in Capricorn in a dogmatic trine to Pluto.
The complicating factor in his chart is Jupiter in Scorpio opposition Saturn in Taurus, which is lucky but also makes him subject to reverses. It brings an unsettled life with constant changes.
Tr Pluto will square the Jupiter for the final time from early August to late December 2026, which on its own should bring a surge of confidence leading to success. But it also tugs on the Saturn for anchors dragging.
It looks a fraught, nerve-stretched time for him behind the scenes with his Uranus/Pluto and Uranus/Neptune midpoints across this summer into August.
His relationship chart with the UK is upbeat and hopeful with a composite Jupiter trine Sun and Jupiter square Pluto suggesting voter popularity. In contrast to Starmer’s relationship with the UK which has a hostile Mars opposition Pluto and a suspicious, doubting Saturn Neptune conjunct the Sun.
Burnham’s relationship with the Labour Parliamentary Party chart of 1906 is friendly and upbeat with a few caveats. His relationship with the grassroots party 1900 Labour chart is less amiable with an undercurrent of dislike, irritation, hinting at a fair amount of turmoil.
His relationship chart with Keir Starmer indicates a rough ride this year with tr Uranus opposition the Mercury Venus from now on and off to early 2027; and disappointment through 2028. There is a composite yod of Mars sextile Saturn inconjunct Pluto pointing to deep dislike but also a ‘fated’ bond which will irrevocably tie their destinies together for good or for ill.
2027 for Burnham has hints of a one-step-forward and one-step-backwards path with disappointments in 2028.

The synastry between Burnham’s chart and the UK 1801 chart is remarkable. His Uranus sits on the 1801 Libra Ascendant suggesting a rollercoaster of upheaval and change – additionally his Chiron in Aries opposes the UK’s Uranus and Libra Asc. Burnham’s Capricorn Sun Venus and Moon oppose the 1801’s chart MC, picks up the UK’s Sun Moon opposition in Capricorn and Cancer and squares the UK’s nodal axis. His Neptune is on the UK’s Chiron in Sagittarius square Pluto in Pisces. Burnham has an out of sign grand cross – his late Capricorn Mercury squares Saturn in Taurus, Jupiter in Scorpio and opposes an early Leo mean BML to form a grand cross which picks up the UK’s Jupiter in Leo. He describes himself as being the soft left wing of the Labour Party. Essentially his chart interacts with the UK’s chart in a way that Corbyn’s (who’s obviously left wing) chart does not.
Burnham’s Saturn in Taurus opposition Jupiter in Scorpio has 2nd and 8th House overtones. In mundane terms Taurus could represent national resources and economics with Saturn implying limitations while Scorpio covers transformation, taxes, hidden resources and mortality with Jupiter there it could indicate they maybe under pressure. Burnham will be helped by the fact that Jupiter/Mars and Saturn/Venus are in mutual reception.
The Mars opposition Moon square Sun in the composite chart is interesting..In mundane terms it could suggest a clash between a desire for fairness and due process among the public (Moon In Libra) and a need for forceful action even if it means direct confrontation (Mars in Aries). The “Me or My Group First” energy of Aries will try to override the “We The People” of Libra. This volatile polarised energy will be released through the Sun in Capricorn symbolising the leader. The process will be being driven by the transit of Neptune and Saturn through Aries and influenced by Pluto’s transit through the collective sign of Aquarius.
My guess is nothing is settling down just yet if Burnham becomes PM. He may have big plans for a future government but a lack of money will be a huge obstacle. My guess is that in trying to resolve that problem is going to create big tensions particularly in the area of taxation. In addition Burnham’s desire to redress the imbalance of public spending between the north of the UK and the rest of the country could alienate people in London and the South East, an area ironically where Labour has done better in recent national elections. His proposals for reforming property taxes could hit Londoners hard which will be a concern for the 58 Labour MPs who have seats there.
Second decan Cappy is a bad choice. A first decan would be far more suitable.
Do you think there is any chance of a General Election this year? Maybe Burnham taking advantage of a poll bounce so he has a mandate for an agenda not in the 2024 manifesto.
A bit convoluted however, Burnham’s U.K. composite chart has Mars in Aries (its ruling sign) in the 4th opposite its Moon in the 10th which rules the 4th house. . Along with its Sun in Capricorn in the 2nd squaring a strong Mars in Aries and opposite Lillith. . . Perhaps the Moon “people” will be angered by his rulership, resenting his attitude? As a Leo Sun in Capricorn which is ruler of the 10th square Mars can mean hotheaded behaviour by a leader? Or an aggressive leader. Couple this with Lilith – the dark moon – in Cancer in the 8th house ( politics and Money), squaring the Moon in the 10th. and opposite the 2nd Sun, this could reinforce voters money being spent by a ruler as they please . Saturn the ruler of Capricorn is situated Gemini in the 7th house of partnerships, , with Mercury ruler of Gemini in Capricorn conjunct the U.K. 1801 Sun. There may be some very vocal people voicing their opposition to Burnham’s leadership. The voters partnership with their leader being questioned! , especially as Saturn is exhalted in Libra which happens to be the sign on the tenth house. There is a very strong Saturn theme to this composite charts Perhaps a real feeling of oppression in this composite chart? Which doesn’t bode well for a great partnership with the voters, in my view
Ever since you posted the link below on April 30th, I’ve been wondering whether Starmer would be pushed out. Obviously there are a few more twists and turns ahead with a leadership contest and I’m not that convinced Burnham’s earthy-water chart matches the era but I’m hopeful he will be a better figurehead than Starmer has been.

Intrestingly, more I look at Farage’s chart.. more convinced I am he will have stood down by September. I think this 5 million thing is the end of him.
Agreed. Also PM involves hard work, detail, long hours and, crucially, scrutiny. It’s all about the grift for Farage
Plus he’s incapable of power sharing and tends to fall out with everyone.
I haven’t thought of doing a composite with the 1801…I usually do a bi wheel…does a composite offer more and does it show well for those pm that have been ‘successful ‘?
The virtue of composites is it can give timings.
The composite is a description of the relationship – the meeting point in the middle. While synastry tells you about the interplay of energies between two individuals. They do not always repeat the same message which can mean the trickier aspects in synastry can be worked out. The composite chart can be seen as “final outcome” of the relationship whether it is viable or not.
Can I request for this and other such explanations to be made into posts?
That way, they are searchable in the future?
If you give me suggestions for a list I will put my mind to it.
Thank you for explaining the difference between composite and synastry – I’ve always wondered about that.
Given Mercury’s pre-shadow position and the recent void new moon, any move to oust may not have the desired effect.
