The Gen Z generation, born circa 1997 to 2010, are facing up to corrupt governments in Kenya, Nepal, Madagascar and elsewhere with angry street demonstrations ongoing.
That generation coincides with Pluto in Sagittarius from the mid 1990s to 2009, now aged late teens to 30. Sagittarius is an idealistic, knowledgeable sign concerned with the larger social order and has no patience with hypocrisy and injustice. Outspoken and impulsive, it rarely stays quiet when feeling crowded or suppressed.
Add Pluto into the mix and attitudes become intense. Where religion is involved some become fanatics and try to impose their views on others – hence the rise of Al Quaeda during those years. But it also had the opposite effect of promoting globalization, multiculturalism and cross border travel. Whichever end of the spectrum is lived out, arguments are likely, fuelled by deeply held attitudes and opinions.
Along the way Pluto opposed Saturn in Gemini, 2001 to 2003, (Gen Z-ers now in early twenties) producing stubborn personalities, used to hardship and well-designed to stand up against pressure. From 2003 Uranus moved into Pisces, never quite reaching a square with Pluto in Sagittarius but the feel may have been there of a budding revolutionary spirit.
2005 (Gen Z-ers now 20 years old) had Saturn in Leo opposition Neptune in Aquarius for a dream of a better society; with Saturn trine Pluto strengthening determination.
Pluto in Capricorn (2008 to 2023) with its emphasis on the old order would breed resentment and Pluto now in Aquarius for two decades ahead may be where that spills out into the open with demands for governments based on decency and equality.
Kenya: See previous post Gen Z Kenya – rebelling against politicians. 15th July 2024.
‘A plague on all their houses’ appears to be the apolitical approach of young Kenyans, eloquent and educated, who are staging demonstrations against corruption, injustice and inequality in a self-serving political class whom they are denouncing across the board. The GenZ movement as they are known who claim no political or tribal allegiance and organize their protests through social media platforms have been compared to the Arab Spring uprisings. In the face of a deteriorating economic situation, they have been expressing their discontent at the lavish lifestyles enjoyed by politicians funded by the taxes of the citizens.
It is reckoned that Generation Z is currently the largest in Africa making up 31.20%. Millennials represent 20.49%. Both generations make up 51.69%.”
In Nepal the protests have much the same target – corruption and a draconian ban on social media. The Gen Z demonstration toppled the government within a day and dissolved the parliament with a new anti-corruption hardliner interim prime minister.
Many young people say they simply wanted to raise their voice against corruption and never intended to bring about wholesale regime change – let alone be tasked with deciding the next prime minister and future of the country. Their movement had no single leader, no manifesto and no singular set of demands, and still largely remains that way.
In Madagascar rubber bullets and tear gas were fired on the the latest youth-led protest known as Gen Z Mada who wish to force the president from power with complaints about persistent power and water shortages, and wider dissatisfaction over corruption, high unemployment and the cost-of-living crisis.
Madagascar, 26 June 1960, will be in turmoil for several years with tr Neptune Saturn square the Sun Venus in 20926 and a turbulent tr Uranus square Pluto; a trapped tr Pluto square Mars and then square a confused Neptune through till 2027/8.
Likewise Nepal, 29 May 1991, will be in a tussle internally through 2026 with a tough struggle and upsets into 2027/28.
If there is a pattern it would be against politicians of all persuasions which is much the same in the west – and inequality/financial corruption, which is a red flag for Pluto in Aquarius. There is no Uranus opposition Pluto ahead as there was for the French Revolution in 1790 though the background may be similar with the thrust of Pluto in Aquarius for social enlightenment and equality.
But where are Gen Z in USA, Europe and UK?

When I was growing up a generation was 25 years. But nowadays everyone plays fast and loose with the definition. What is the definition astrologically? Or is it that fashions change so quickly, and that 13 years length shows the gulf of understanding is missing after that point? To me that seems a very short period of time. The way things are going a generation gap might occur every 3 years. The length between siblings.
13yrs is Neptune cycle…also affects generations illusions. FOMO affects boomers the most. In gen z those who r not into fast life due to temperament r rare but they r only ones who r worth of salt. All this bubbling has only brought radical barbaric worse govts in countries they toppled tyrants, historically no country has progressed after this
Intuitively, I’ve defined generations generally by Pluto through the signs. Yes, the length of time in each sign is different, however, there are some clear generational themes that Pluto in each sign engages with. There seems to be an overlap time in the early new degrees.
As Hugh pointed out re: the younger Pluto in Sag people’s experience of the Pluto in Virgo seniors! It got me thinking since I have Pluto at 0 Virgo with most of my friends having Pluto in Leo. As one of those friends remarked, “you (the next generation) got the short end of the stick”. And it certainly has felt that way! Since I’m at the start of Pluto in Virgo, I seem to get the “leftovers”…. the tail end of what was once freely offered to the Pluto in Leo generation.
I’ve had friends with Pluto in Scorpio children and they, too, seem to be a generation, albeit the least amount of years.
Then, certain more short term planet line-ups…. like the 3 years of Saturn conj Neptune in Libra (1951-53) or the Pluto conj Uranus in Virgo (1964-69) are what I call “mini-generations”.
This is not an absolute, of course, only my experience and observation!
I am certainly aware that these are broad strokes!
Many of the political figures involved in the French Revolution which occurred when Pluto was in Aquarius were born when Pluto was in Sagittarius between 1748 and 1762. These include Danton, Robespierre, Paul Barras, Betrand Barere, Roland de la Platière, Brissot de Warville, Pierre Victurnien Vernigaud, Camille Desmoulins. The other thing of note is that most of them died at the hands of the guillotine as the new world they had created destroyed them. Ultimately, the political rewards for all the turmoil went to Napoleon Bonaparte who was born with Pluto in Capricorn.
Thanks everyone!
I have taught three generations of young people at Uni and have observed the following differences:
-Gen Y (80s born) were reactionary, passionate fighters for rights but never for responsibilities and thinking themselves to be the centre of attention – like their Baby Boomer parents.
-Millennials (90s born) : detached and analytical, speaking to what they think is right but translating to little action as they let themselves become comparatively quickly caught up in marriage and parenthood.
-Gen Z (2000s born) – eager for structure and being told what to do, conservative-leaning and concerned with what impacts their daily lives (like housing affordability) rather than global events, insecure but compassionate like their Gen X parents (remember that Alanis Morrissette song “Hand in my Pocket”).
Gen z n upcoming gen alpha and beta..gratefully r eager to learn. They search for someone who knows since they don’t find it in parents to siblings or even grandparents. Hence, gen z have chosen nobel laureates or globally praise won after toppling govts. Millenials taught to be money pursuant and selfish by boomer parents as sudden industrial gen of boomers after depression of silent gen.
On the political front Pluto in Sagittarius Gen Z youngsters will find the Pluto in Virgo generation who make up the senior governing groups in a lot of countries particularly grating. Pluto in Virgo above all wants to create a tidy, controlled ordered, bureaucratised world. In its worst aspect this can be profoundly dystopian as it leads to a type of dictatorship where people are endlessly bossed about while at the same time being told it is all for their own good. This will be a constant and profound irritant to those born under Pluto in Sagittarius who will actually find messing things up and breaking down order a form of liberation even if it is essentially destructive and leads nowhere.
Last question is a good question I wonder about often.
Too feather bedded.
With over-protective “helicopter” parents.
In the US we have a few promising signs: our first Gen Z congressman, Maxwell Frost of Florida, a former Uber driver who’s multi-racial, and David Hogg, an impressive flame-thrower and survivor of the Parkland High School mass shooting who’s stirring up Democrats politics by founding an organization, Leaders We Deserve to recruit.and endorse great younger candidates to challenge some of the Dem dinosaurs who need to pass the torch and retire.
I guess on the right in the US there’s the late Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point organization, but that seems part of the evangelical wing of Trumpism and likely to be subsumed into Trumpism.
David Hogg, on the other hand, was briefly a vice chair of the Democratic National Committee until he resigned before likely being voted out because he wouldn’t go along to get along. He has the potential to be a transformative figure. He might be an interesting person to look at astrologically. I’ll look for birth information.
In Finland, as elsewhere in developed countries, there seems to be a sharp gender division in Gen Z political views, with young men becoming rather conservative curious, while young women are extremely socially liberal.
What I’ve seen, though, in family and at work, is that while Gen Zers have opinions, in real life they tend to be subtle and use humour and wit in delivery to ease tension. It’s a very different energy from intense Pluto in Scorpio people. I’ve enjoyed working with young people from both Pluto generations, but feel the difference.
They are the 4th largest generation in the UK so outnumbered by other age groups. The problem for Gen Z like all Sagittarian influenced things is that they may end up chasing rainbows and end up achieving nothing. Sagittarius (and I am one) is also rather too fond of pointing out the hypocrisies of others while ignoring their own. In addition it gets bored with things quickly so can lack sticking power. Gen Z will, however, generally mature and improve as they age.
As a final point Sagittarius is generally a live and let live sign. It does, however, absolutely hate being hemmed in, constricted, bossed about, controlled etc. This is a point the Labour Party in the UK and Starmer in particular would do well to remember if it us hoping to pick up the votes of new voters at the next General Election
Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter and ninth house. They may well be the exodus of Britain Generation? Looking abroad? Or overwhelmed by migrants? Also, recently there have been some articles about this age group returning to Churches as well. Looking for a different authority? A way of earning money as well? As wealth is an issue. So maybe looking for a philosophy to make sense of their own lives? Pluto transiting Aquarius is all about breaking down old established groups, changing society – which is made up by groups. Political parties? Pluto is now opposite Leo. The sign of the Kingmakers – Rulers, which does not necessary mean Kings\ Royalty. It is those who rule us. Leo cannot mean Royals anymore, as our Rulers are not from an establish home household. Westminster is our actual ruler now , so perhaps voting with anger about work, health, ( which is interesting as mental health (Virgo – 6th house and benefits is a huge topic at the moment) and considering their future. As Saturn ( Gen Z coming up to their first Saturn return) is still considered influential in Aquarius. Gen Z maybe faced with a complete rethink? Pluto’s next step will be Pisces – perhaps a second coming? There are two mid-points which maybe significant midpoints in the next few years. One is Sun/Pluto midpoint in the U.K. 1801 4th, the other is the midpoint between Moon/Saturn in 10th house. Both a circa 6 degrees which will be in 2027. Involving money, authority and the people! Much more to come before Pluto leaves the 1801 fourth house?
