Emma Watson, Hermione in the Harry Potter films, and more recently in Beauty and the Beast and Little Women, has caused some merriment by taking to the public airwaves to announce she was giving up acting because she disliked the attention it attracted. Shades of Prince Harry.
She has also been getting skewered by J.K. Rowling for publicly attacking her over trans rights especially in a Bafta speech at a time when “the death, rape and torture threats” were being aimed at Rowling. Despite which Emma passed on a handwritten note saying ‘I’m so sorry for what you’re going through’. On Twitter X Rowling wrote. “Emma had just publicly poured more petrol on the flames, yet thought a one-line expression of concern from her would reassure me of her fundamental sympathy.”
Emma Watson, 15 April 1990 6pm Paris. France, has an intense 8th house Aries Sun trine a Sagittarius Moon on her IC sextile Mars in Aquarius with her Sun square Saturn – so not short of Fire and a forthright approach. Her equally intense 8th house Mercury in stubborn Taurus is amped up in opposition to Pluto and square an activist Aquarius North Node so she will be opinionated, dogmatic and sure of her beliefs.
She is also of the Uranus Neptune in Capricorn generation who can get entangled with ideas and attitudes that are not open to scrutiny. Her Jupiter in her 10th will bring her luck and career success. Her Jupiter opposing Uranus can be idealistic and well-intentioned but can lead to eccentric viewpoints and be overly blunt.
J. K. Rowling, 31 July 1965 9.10 pm Bristol, England, has a hard-working 6th house Leo Sun with a Virgo Moon in her 7th at the far end of a stellium of Pluto, Uranus, Venus conjunct and Mercury. Her Pluto opposes Saturn in Pisces squaring onto a 4th house Jupiter. Communicative with all that Virgo, keen on pushing ahead with changes from Uranus Pluto and stubborn with Saturn involved. Her focal point Jupiter will soften the rough edges of the tough experiences aroused by Pluto Saturn. Her Jupiter is also square her Moon for a softer view of mother/women. With an angry 8th house Mars in Libra trine her Jupiter for passionate action.
Emma’s obdurate Mercury in Taurus forms one leg of a yod sextile Rowling’s Saturn inconjunct Rowling’s Mars – so she would spark off deep seated reactions. On Emma’s chart, Rowling’s Jupiter is conjunct her Midheaven bringing her success. But Rowling’s intense Mars square’s Emma’s Uranus Neptune for a considerable clash. Emma’s uncompromising Pluto (opposition Mercury) is conjunct Rowling’s 9th house Neptune for a divergence of outlooks/philosophies.
Their relationship chart has an intertwined Grand Trine (in Air) of Pluto Sun and Saturn hinting at a relationship sensitive to ideological differences, formed into two Kites by Sun opposition an argumentative Mars and Pluto opposition the composite North Node – which is an almost perfect example of a twosome at loggerheads over a current cultural obsession.
Apart from a few ripples there is nothing much ahead between them as Emma presumably sinks into obscurity (maybe) and the argument anyway recedes in the rear-view mirror.
Emma’s Ascendant in late Virgo did catch the recent Solar Eclipse for an image crisis and need for a rebrand. By next year tr Saturn Neptune will square her 10th house Jupiter for a confidence dent and career slump.
J.K.Rowling was also in the line of the September Lunar Eclipse keying up her Uranus Pluto and Saturn; with the Solar Eclipse rattling her Moon – perhaps why she has let fly now.

There is little to no tolerance shown to women who believe their sex based rights matter and should be upheld.
The powers that be want a utopia that makes them look and feel good, but doesn’t work in practice or legally. If you don’t accept that some men are now women, you are to be hauled into the public square and flogged. The Sandie Peggie case exemplifies the betrayal of women by management in our NHS. The awful business at the Edinburgh Rape Centre demonstrated something evil at the heart of the Scottish Green Party. LGB groups are seeking a separation because of the rise of the male lesbian.
I feel hurt at the contempt shown to women who are also trying to live their lives in peace. We could have nagivated this issue, and the inherent tensions, with more honesty and nuance. It seems impossible to do that here in the UK, so women have had to use they law instead. It doesn’t feel tolerant or progressive to me.
Rowling’s argument is fear based. While she may couch her argument as protecting feminism and the hard fought rights of women, she has also said that the trans movement is an invitation for wolves in trans clothing to attack women in the lavs. She was assaulted when she was younger and thinks anyone who hasn’t experienced this trauma is naive. (Personally, I’m glad to be “ignorant” of it)
With Saturn and Chiron in the first, and Pluto and Moon in the 7th, this is an internal battle that other people get dragged into.
I don’t understand this obsession with trans people, most of whom live quite lives just trying to be their own best selves.
I have four friends with trans kids, most adults now. One, a talented young man and kind and generous soul, who recently graduated from university planning to become a music teacher, has decided to delay his student teaching because he and his friends don’t know if it’s safe for them to remain in the US, even in tolerant and accepting California. A real tragedy and waste of talent — just as the US is again squandering the real and potential contributions of women and minorities because they’re not straight white Christian men.
Thank you Nicole, totally agree with you. I don’t understand the hate against trans people. They just want the right to exist.
Agreed Nicole. I don’t understand it either.
I agree.
A very interesting analysis.
I always wonder about people who fall out over issues that don’t really impact them at all at a personal level.
Pluto in Scorpio would potentially make Watson dogmatic and unyielding on former taboo issues. Pluto in Virgo wants to keep it real and grounded particularly about the details. Unfortunately, that can come across as tiresome nagging at times . Virgo is also the sign of the martyr both metaphorical and real. Both signs have a tendency to want others to feel their pain which can make them wearisome to everyone else.
Both seem to be exhausting and obstinate in their own ways. It’s a curious relationship to have, as JK is almost a parental figure to Watson in having defined how she is viewed to the whole world at such a young age.
JK seems to still luxuriate in the power and attention she wields whether its positive or not – one wonders why she can’t be content as artists like Enya, making and enjoying her wealth in relative privacy. She’s also reaching the end of her second saturn return – right as Harry Potter is rehashed in tv and audiobook form … but with much more public weariness than the first go around. Her Virgo stellium made her a gifted imaginative and precise writer but it didn’t go all the way in resolving a lot of childhood wounding and pain.
Thanks Marjorie. Interesting to see the recent Solar Eclipse caught Emma’s ascendant (image), given JK’s powerful statement on twitter (X) yesterday.
JK is correct, Emma is ignorant at how ignorant she really is.
