She’s seen as an Eva Peron figure, a populist favourite despite allegations of corruption and economic irresponsibility with her high social spending leading to debt. “Populism is an easier sell but Argentina is broke,” says a political analyst. “Opposition voters who expect a return to the easy spending of the Kirchner era will be quickly disillusioned.”
