Pompeo in Riyadh – the impossible task

Mike Pompeo was rocketed off to Saudi Arabia, no doubt in hopes of calming the firestorm over Khashoggi’s disappearance/murder. Although the Turkish authorities are fanning the flames with tales of recently repainted rooms in the Istanbul Saudi Embassy. Murmurs are that it will be blamed on hapless Saudi operatives overstepping the mark despite it being obvious they were sent across under orders.

Trump clearly has personal reasons for sweeping it under the carpet since he and Jared were so enamoured of the young Crown Prince; and will have an eye on the financial and economic costs of a major fall out.

But Pompeo’s relationship chart with both King Salman and Mohammed bin Salman (MbS), despite today’s smiles,  look to be hitting a sticky wicket in early this December. That’s a time he’s looking peculiarly frustrated on his own chart, with tr Pluto conjunct his Mars and tr Saturn conjunct his Sun; and having his enthusiasm dented in the final days before New Year.

If anything 2019 looks worse on Pompeo’s connections with the two Saudi leaders with major eruptions, at a time when his relationship chart with Trump is also ratcheting up problems. Though that has started already out of sight, and will escalate this December and January 2019, worsening as the year proceeds. It’s not as great a relationship as it appeared with a composite Venus Saturn opposition Mars which will be anger-provoking. Trump drops people into jobs and then expects them to toe his line and surprise, surprise, it doesn’t always turn out the way he wants.

  1. It occured to me that Pompeo’s chart is a lot like Nixon’s. Capricorn Sun, Capricorn Mercury conjunct Mars (Nixon’s was just in Sadgittarius) aspecting Cardinal Jupiter (Nixon’s Capricorn, Pompeo’s Aries). Earth Rising, Nixon’s in Virgo, Pompeo’s in Taurus. Main difference: Nixon’s mainly cool Aquarius Moon compared to Pompeo’s
    severly stressed Cancer Moon.

Pompeo definitely thinks he can “handle” just about anyone, and especially Trump. I wouldn’t, in fact, be surprised if he was the infamous “Lodestar”.

  2. Regarding Pompeo’s aspects late year, Mueller is supposedly to be ready to release his findings, after the election (but some say sooner). I would think Pompeo would be under maximum public pressure afterwards.

  3. I looked at Mike Pompeo’s individual chart (apparently, there’s a time of birth, this seems to happen a lot with California Natives, maybe because it’s easier to obtain birth certificates there), and gosh, isn’t he ambitious? Capricorn Sun and Mars/Mercury 8th/9th house (depends on house system). That said, he has Cancer Moon in the 3rd opposing that Mars/Mercury and widely squaring Jupiter in Aries 11th house. Sooner or later, he will get emotional and tell what he REALLY things about issues, most likely to friends. This may in fact endear him to those who are like minded – DJT seems to appreciate him.

However, I suspect Pompeo is not in the same page with Trump on this. He doesn’t seem to like Arabs to begin with, he was in Military from 1986 to 1991, and although his Division was not deployed in Operation Desert Storm, people he attended West Point with and knew would have been involved in it. And, even more importantly, he was leading CIA before being appointed Secretary of State. And he definitely has received confidential information on MbS’s coup, which did take down many of US longtime allies.

My feeling is that he is not comfortable with Trump being this chummy with MbS, by any measure. He is
