The justified furore over the Parkland, Florida school shooting is not abating, in part due to the upswell of outrage from young people, who are making their voices heard. The statistics on mass shootings by assault rifles are staggering (see URL WPost below). Since the ban was lifted in 2004 incidents using this type of weapon have tripled and deaths almost quadrupled.
Senator Marco Rubio had an uncomfortable ride at a CNN debate, faced down by a father of one of the dead children. The NRA has contributed around $3million to support Rubio’s campaigns and he has always been a staunch supporter of gun rights.

Wayne LaPierre, Vice-President of the NRA, has been shooting off his mouth defending the Second Amendment, voicing the usual alt-right paranoia about individual freedoms being impinged. He’s a trenchant Sun Scorpio square Pluto and square an Aquarius Moon, so will not budge easily, if at all. But tr Neptune conjunct his Mars from this May and through 2019 could well pull the rug from under his feet. Though he won’t go down with a fight back. But something may shift.

This was a kid who was ignored, who was mentally ill, who the community knew was a ticking time bomb but, wasn’t left to his own device to explode. The local police were at his house 39 times. They were notified of his weapons and the concern over them. The FBI was notified that he threatened to be a professional school shooter, twice. There was 4 armed, uniformed Broward county police on site while the kids were being slaughtered and they did nothing. This kid had just lost his mother and his father was already gone, he was diagnosed with ADHD, autism and depression and also said he heard voices. He was seeing a mental health care provider before he turned 18 yet that didn’t make it into his background check.

The sheriff of Broward county sat up on stage in front of the front of the world accusing the NRA when he knew he had 4 sheriffs on site that did nothing and he kept that to himself. He suspended one and the guy turns around retires with full benefits while parents are burying their kids.

Someone mentioned Gov Rick Scott. He has now come out to say the age for gun purchases in Florida must be raised to 21. Let’s hope he holds to it. Many companies are pulling out of any kind of benefits for NRA members. This will be powerful.
Bows and arrows, knives, etc. aren’t weapons of mass destruction. AR-15 rifles and the like can wipe out many people in a matter of seconds. There’s a huge difference.

Also, according to ER docs who have treated gunshot wounds, regular guns leave holes in a person the size of a bullet, but AR-15’s shred everything around them as they go through so people either die on the spot or have no chance of being saved even if they’re taken to hospital. They are weapons of war, like bombs.
shredding does depend somewhat on the barreling. the M16 was developed as an anti-personnel weapon; some of the rifling is missing – something like the last 6″ of the barrel inside is smooth bore, allowing the bullet to “wobble” even tumble once it hits the “soft” target.
shredding also depends on muzzle velocity, if hollow-point, etc. not a nice weapon unless one is in warfare.

you forgot to mention our very corrupt Republican Governor Rick Scott – he’s being backed into a corner too. Scott didn’t even bother to attend the CNN town hall that was held with the survivors, and the victims families in Sunrise last night (Nelson attended though). Yet, Scott actually has the nerve to consider running for the U.S. Senate this year – which would been him challenging our Democratic U.S. Senator Bill Nelson’s seat.
Rick Scott is still clinging to the NRA despite a growing demand for change here in Florida. I hope it costs him.

I would give any amount of money to see LaPierre get the proverbial rug yanked out from under him. The NRA is under investigation. Seems they got $30 million from a Russian Oligarch in the last election and what do you know, the NRA also gave Donald Trump’s campaign…..$30 million. Would love to see the whole thing collapse. Tired of seeing our government deadlocked by this group who have blood on their hands.

Products of violence exist in many forms. Once AR-15s are limited…what about bow-and-arrow, handguns, axes, baseball bats? Even highway bumper car?
The so-called “knock-out game” can lead to fatalities…at what point does a society say “enough”? America is no longer safe at any level.
